WWE Release Ricky Ortiz

Posted by Kendrick Davis On August - 11 - 2009
Even though it was the weekend, WWE still had business to take care of. They released Smack Down superstar Ricky Ortiz on Saturday. This announcement was made on WWE.com. On July 1st, 2008 Ortiz made his debut on ECW, under the name "Atlas Ortiz" and defeated ex-ECW GM Armando Estrada. The next week, in a segment with former WWE diva Lena Yada, he wanted to be referred to as Ricky Ortiz. He went 5-0 but soon tasted defeated as a singles competitor. He lost to Jack Swagger on Dec 2, 2008. Swagger himself was undefeated at the time. Ortiz was drafted to SmackDown via WWE Supplemental ...

D-Generation X: Can They Help Raw Get Over The Ratings Drop?

Posted by Joe Burgett On August - 11 - 2009
For the first time in a long time, I enjoyed watching almost every minute of RAW. True, some of the Sgt. Slaughter segments were not great, but for the most part the show was pretty well done. I especially liked the final part of the show where Orton hit the RKO on Jericho as Cena had him on his shoulders, it made me jump out of my seat. I think Jericho landed a bit awkward, but I digress. However, the part of the show that kept me most interested were the DX segments. I thought the idea to have Shawn Michaels try ...

Michaels Returns, As Will DX

Posted by Chris DiFrancesco On August - 11 - 2009
The long-awaited return of the showstopper, the headliner, the main event, and the icon came to fruition last night on Monday Night Raw. The heartbreak kid Shawn Michaels will return with Triple-H to reform Degeneration-X to take on Legacy at the biggest party of the summer, SummerSlam on Aug. 23. At first it wasn't looking too good for Triple-H last night when he found HBK working as a chef in a San Antonio luncheon. Michaels told the king of kings that "he didnt want to hear it, anymore," meaning that the likelihood of his comeback was vastly dropping. There had been no ...

A Shockingly Good Monday Night Raw…Finally!

Posted by Jesse Mitchell On August - 11 - 2009
I have almost come to dread watching Monday Night Raw lately, so imagine my surprise when they put together a good, almost great, show from Calgary tonight. They even had more matches (seven in total), than Smackdown and Superstars put together! The crowd was great and the superstars themselves were at the top of their games. Orton continues to bring heat, and John Cena gave one of the most passionate promos I have seen from him in a long, long time. That is after hearing news that made me rethink my whole opinion of both, which I will go into later. It was odd to ...
Moderator: "Welcome one and all to another installment of The Wrestling Council. In today's installment we have four hard-hitting topics that will cause our panel to reach back into the deep recesses of its mind and deliver a well-thought out response. Today we are joined with the young minds of the Bleacher Report world. Call them our Breakfast Club if you will. Our panel consists of Justin Thomas, Dan Telek, Jared Farver, and Hayley Graham. Now that pleasantries are over, let us begin, shall we?"   1) Should the WWE go back to single-brand PPVs? (i.e. An all-Smackdown PPV one month, all-RAW the next) Justin: ...

Wrestlemania 26: John Cena Vs Undertaker, Who Wins?

Posted by Micah Chen On August - 11 - 2009
Ok, picture this: It's the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania 26, Glendale Arizona, the lights are bright. John Cena and Undertaker are eyeing each other in the ring, the bell rings. Who's going to win this main event of all main events? I am going to argue both of these wrestler's cases. Let's start with the Undertaker. Undertaker is 17-0 at Wrestlemania. He seemingly just won't lose the biggest match of wrestlers' careers. Last year it was the Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels, that match has got to be in my top three favorite matches of all time.  Then the year before that it ...

Back off All You Critics: Monday Night RAW Has Delivered

Posted by Scott Beeby On August - 10 - 2009
For a while now, the sharks have been circling WWE's "A" show, Monday Night Raw, anxious to tear it apart. Well I'm here to tell all of the haters to back off! I decided to watch Raw for what it is...a great show that entertains the fans. I wasn't paying attention to the repercussions of certain matches, I was just enjoying the show. It started off with the usual promo, this time by WWE Champion Randy Orton. He started droning on about how he was going to walk out of SummerSlam still the champion. John Cena came out and cut one of ...

What Happened To Good Heels? (Excuse The Pun) Part: I

Posted by Jason Brown On August - 10 - 2009
No matter how great a hero is, he needs an equally capable villain.  Sure, The Rock and Steve Austin were the focal point of their era, but their success relied heavily upon what Triple H and Kurt Angle did to challenge them, and, in actuality, make them better performers. The bad guy has always been tougher to portray correctly.  Being a face, you simply have to gain the crowd's affection. It's not entirely necessary that you are the best, and there aren’t many dimensions to your character. While The Rock just came out and told jokes, Kurt Angle had to foil his performance while being the butt of his joke, as well out wrestle him to ...
