Eyeing An Irishman: A Look at the Career of David Finlay

Posted by Hurricane Hubbard On November - 8 - 2009
We wrestling fans may know him as "the man who loves to fight." To those that know him personally, he is David Edward Finlay Jr. David was born January 31, 1958 in Belfast Northern Ireland.  Finlay's first match was in 1974 when another wrestler no-showed his father's promotion. He did begin wrestling full-time in Carrickfergus and the rest of Ireland for the next four years. In 1978, he ventured to England wrestling promotions. Finlay's first wrestling championship came when he defeated Alan Kilby in 1982, which was the Joint Promotions British Heavyweight Championship. The title exchanged back and forth with his various opponents for the rest of ...
For years now, the wrestling community has been saying things about the power that Triple H wields within the WWE.  Ever since HBK and HHH formed DX and became a ratings magnet, Vince has let them get away with just about anything they wanted. Some time later, Hunter married the boss's daughter and became a member of the extended McMahon family, giving him more backstage power than almost any other wrestler has had.  He is without a doubt a great mic man but many people question his in-ring ability. Other than Edge, I cannot remember another superstar amassing that many world ...

Chris Hero: Time to Make the Transition and TNA or WWE?

Posted by Steven Ransiear On November - 7 - 2009
For quite a while the talk on the independent wrestling scene revolved around a few men. Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness, and Chris Hero. All of them except one have moved on to either the WWE or TNA. Yet Hero remains in ROH where he seems to be at the same place he's been since losing the tag team titles back in 2006.  Following that, many including myself believed that he'd be ROH World Champion at some point. Getting close to four years later, it still hasn't happened. So why hasn't Hero moved on? Well to begin, the answer to ...

The Five Most Misused Stars in the WWE

Posted by Kenneth Fagan On November - 7 - 2009
The WWE is misusing several of it's stars, and that's a shame. There are five I see being misused right now. Chavo Guerrero Chavo Guerrero, nephew of the legendary Eddie Guerrero( R.I.P), is one of the stars being misused. Once part of a legendary tag team with his uncle and a former ECW Champ, he is now being lowered to jobbing to a midget in Degeneration X garb who runs around and crotch chops everyone he sees and he is also being paired with a diva whose gimmick is a terrible singer. Her gimmick should be a terrible wrestler; oh, wait. Chris Masters Masters, although ...
This ranking is a follow-up to the tag team series that was written in October, which was a pleasure to write and fun to go down memory lane.  Similar to the tag team series, I will list and provide career summary of the top wrestlers in the order which Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) ranked them in 2003. The wrestlers ranked fought during the existence of this fine publication. Therefore, pre-70s superstars like Lou Thesz, Gorgeous George, and Buddy Rogers are not included.  Nor, will Japanese greats like Antonio Inoki, Shohei Baba, and Tiger Mask. I have narrowed the list to wrestlers who mostly fought in North America. I hope you enjoyed this series and look forward to your comments and opinions.   50 ...

Time for a Change: A Call to Reinstate the Cruiserweight Championship

Posted by Jeremiah Graves On November - 7 - 2009
Enough is enough and it’s time for a change.   Longtime wrestling fans may remember that as Owen Hart’s catchphrase, which is appropriate given today’s topic—the defunct Cruiserweight Championship.   Hart was an incredible wrestler who could take to the air with the best of them and, in a day when aerial maneuvers were still in their infancy stages in the United States, he was a man ahead of the times.   If the Cruiserweight gold had been around during Hart’s tenure with the WWE, he no doubt would have been a multi-time champion. Unfortunately, he never got that opportunity and, sadly, neither will many of ...
Recently, the wrestling world has had many different power shifts among its ranks.  Jeff Jarrett seems to have been cut out of the loop with TNA, both Linda and Shane McMahon left the WWE, and Hogan and Bischoff signed with TNA.  What seems most interesting to me is that somewhere down the line we could see two female promoters face off in wrestling for the first time ever. Since Shane announced his future plans to leave the WWE, everyone has been asking what Stephanie's role will be with the company when Vince retires.  It has been said her future position ...

B/R Wrestling Section Competition: The Best International Star

Posted by Joe Burgett On November - 7 - 2009
After coming up with the last competition which had the B/R Wrestling Section come up with who made the biggest impact on wrestling, I had to think of what I could come up with next. I knew I wanted to do another one, because the section had some of the best writing I've seen in a while during the competition. However, when I saw who people were coming up with, I saw mostly Americans or people from North America in the competition. So, that got me to thinking. Is it just Americans or people from North America who were or are the ...

It’s Official: Hulk Hogan Will Destroy TNA

Posted by On November - 7 - 2009
First off, this is the best picture of Hulk Pasta—er, Hogan I've ever seen, so I had to use it. Since signing with TNA or Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Hulk Hogan has been all over the news and in the media saying he will shake things up in TNA and that his role is that of "The Boss." While Hogan's knowledge and experience is irrefutable, his history says he may not make the best decisions. Hogan is considered by many to be one of the main reasons the WCW went down toward the end. His booking clauses in his contracts and his stroke ...
Ever since coming to the WWE Evan Bourne, known to some as Matt Sydal, has electrified audiences with his high flying moves and positive attitude towards the sport. During his days in ECW Evan seemed to be being groomed by the WWE to win the ECW championship, and then suddenly he was drafted to Raw.  Since arriving on Raw Evan has been  a solid performer against the likes of Randy Orton, Jack Swagger, and the Miz, But I can't help but feel that the cruiserweight is being used as a glorified jobber. Lately, Evan Bourne can't seem to get a win, except ...
