A Year To Remember: Wrestling Landscape in 1985

Posted by FRANK On August - 28 - 2010
The first part of the series took a look back at the "wrestling world" in 1984, which included the birth of "Hulkamania", the major regions under the NWA banner, and some of the bad decisions Verne Gagne made when deciding who wore the AWA Title or didn't (looking at you Hulk Hogan).   Pro Wrestling USA As 1985 approached, various NWA regions and AWA decided to merge their operations to form Pro Wrestling USA to compete against the growing WWF threat. Unfortunately, the egos and accusations between promoters were the reasons for the failure of this organization. Gagne accused Jim Crockett of trying ...

Smackdown to SyFy: How WWE Can Instantly Improve Its Rosters

Posted by Blake Oestriecher On August - 28 - 2010
On Oct. 1, Smackdown will officially move from MyNetworkTV to SyFy. The last time Smackdown changed channels in 2008, from the CW Network to its current channel, WWE decided to beef up its roster for its premiere episode on the new network. In a move that probably made plenty of the wrestlers happy in the Raw locker room, Triple H was drafted to Smackdown. Another huge change was the decision to move Jim Ross to the blue show while sending Michael Cole to Raw. If Vince knows what he’s doing, he’ll do the same thing before Smackdown heads to SyFy, and make some ...

Magnus: From Gladiator to Greatness

Posted by Stephen Lyon On August - 27 - 2010
I was watching this past week's TNA Explosion and was extremely impressed by Magnus. While thinking about it, I started to realize how much he's evolved since coming into TNA as the former Gladiator, working through the British Invasion, and coming to a point where he looks like a legitimate, dominant wrestler, who can stand on his own, without having to rely on his tag team partner. So this is going to be a review about how he started, his progression, and where he is now compared to where he was. The Beginning: In December of 2008, TNA started showing promo's about a ...

Two Sides Of The Wolverine: Michael Benoit Tells His Story

Posted by Patrick J On August - 27 - 2010
Last Night, Chris Benoit's father was on Nightline to speak about his late son. As we all know, Benoit murdered his wife Nancy and son Daniel back in 2007. Benoit began giving insight on his son, not the wrestler nor the man who many believed to be a monster. He said growing up, Benoit dreamed of being a wrestler. When Chris became one, Michael said seeing his son in the ring was totally different from the Benoit he knew. The episode, which primarily focused on brain damage among athletes, focused mainly on Benoit. Benoit, who suffered multiple concussions in his career, had extensive brain ...

5 Things That WWE Does Better Than TNA

Posted by Ian Malone On August - 27 - 2010
Watching TNA sometimes is like watching a movie that you already know the outcome to. You may have a favorite character that dies in the movie, and even though you know it's going to happen you still hope that it doesn't. I genuinely want TNA to reach the level of the WWE. I think the industry was at its best when WWF was going head to head against WCW. Ratings were at an all time high, and arguably so was the popularity of wrestling. But it seems whenever TNA takes a step forward, it takes two steps back. It can be very ...

3 Reasons Why (Insert Name Here) Should Win The Finals Of NXT Season 2

Posted by Earnest Wright On August - 27 - 2010
The case really can be made for either of the three finalist, but, don't get me wrong I was pulling for Husky Harris, Kaval, or Percy Watson, even though Percy could still use a little polishing. My pick of the liter throughout the course of the season was Husky Harris, he really offered something different from what the WWE usually churns out. He is vastly different from the norm, but in an interesting way. He has an interesting way of speaking, great presence, an interesting look, and I saw him getting over as a heal week by ...

Gertrude “Luna” Vachon Rest in Peace: You Will Be Missed

Posted by Chris Mueller AKA The Dude On August - 27 - 2010
Today I turned on my computer and did my normal rounds of checking wrestling news sites to see what was happening. I was shocked to learn that Gertrude Vachon, also known as Luna, passed away. I sat in awe of what I had read on my computer screen. A woman who was one of the most successful, influential and unique women's wrestlers had been found dead at her mother's home. Luna had recently lost everything in a fire at her home. Many said it was lucky she was not harmed in the incident. A campaign on the Internet began by ...

In sad news today, it has been reported that Luna Vachon has passed away. WWE has confirmed the news and so has some wrestling sites. WWE issued the following: "World Wrestling Entertainment has been made aware of the passing of Gertrude (Luna) Vachon. WWE extends its deepest condolences to the Vachon family.
