TNA Bound for Glory 2011: Why Winter Will Reign in the Knockouts Title Match

Posted by Sharon Glencross On October - 15 - 2011
At TNA’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view, current Knockouts Champion Winter will defend her title in a four way match against Velvet Sky, Mickie James and Madison Rayne. Notably, all the challengers qualified for the bout during new Knockouts VP Karen Jarrett’s “Queen’s Qualifier” tournament, seen by many as an attempt from the new booking regime to endow the much-beleaguered TNA women’s division with some desperately needed credibility Facing off against the division’s top competitors, it’s a tough test for Winter (real name: Katarina Waters) who regained the belt from perennial foe Mickie James in a good match at last ...
While many WWE fans and staff members have openly questioned the talent and direction of TNA Impact Wrestling, Hulk Hogan and the 2011 Bound for Glory card are enough to make even the most diehard WWE fan weary. The WWE has put on nothing but subpar PPVs all year, and besides Money in the Bank, there isn’t much keeping TNA from blowing their competition right out of the water. Even WrestleMania 27 wasn’tverry great, and the card that TNA is putting out for their biggest event would rival anything that WWE has tried to put out this year. While Hulk Hogan ...

WWE Either/Or: End the Brand Extension or Make PPV Exclusive

Posted by Street Sweeper On October - 15 - 2011
Hey Bleachers, I wanted to do something a little different for an article on Bleacher Report—an either/or for WWE.Should the WWE end the brand extension, to allow all wrestlers to be on both shows (not the RAW SuperShow, but a complete stop)?Or, should the WWE continue with the brand extension and make pay-per-views exclusive to each show (to make this work, the WWE would have to cut pay-per-views and have a lineup for the calendar, like they did in 2002 and 2006-07)?So, let's start with ending the brand extension. After the Alliance storyline, the WWE picked up several superstars in ...

WWE: Why Smackdown Is Now the Worst Wrestling Show on TV

Posted by Lewis Nolan On October - 15 - 2011
In 2009, Wrestling Observer Newsletter named Smackdown the best wrestling show on TV over its big brother RAW. This was the second time this had happened (the first was in 2002) and it was the highlight of the brand's time on MyNetworkTV.However, once you are on top of the mountain the only way to go is down, and down it went.On the first of October in 2010, Smackdown left MyNetworkTV for the SyFy channel and everything went wrong from there. The quality of the show slowly declined over the next seven months before the annual WWE draft teased a revival ...

WWE SmackDown 10/14/11: The Good, the Bad and the Meh

Posted by T. Schaefer On October - 15 - 2011
WWE SmackDown came from Dallas, Texas.   As always, hit up Kaleb's Kelchner's blog if you need a recap. Needing some recovery from a universally panned Raw and to build towards the Vengeance PPV next week, the show needed a strong performance, more or less, to build some momentum for the Mexico tour.  How did they do? The Good: + Opening segment.  Short, sweet and to the point.  Simply to announce to the opening Battle Royal to commemorate SmackDown becoming the No. 2 longest running episodic program, or whatever.  Lauri is tolerable in small doses.  + Battle Royale.  An orgy of violence ...

Monday Night Raw: Why It Was Far Better Than You Think

Posted by John Nicolaides On October - 14 - 2011
The reaction to this week's Raw from wrestling critics was scathing to say the least. From what I have seen, internet fans hated almost every part of the show.Honestly, it's a huge overreaction to a show that hit some high notes. I attribute this to the overly high expectations fans have for the WWE. It's not the Attitude Era, and it won't be any time in the near future.Look at the comment section of a WWE video on YouTube to see what I mean. Although they aren't the clearest representation of internet fans, you can see my point.I wholeheartedly agree ...

WWE Friday Night SmackDown Recap: 4 Best Moments of the Night

Posted by Kaleb Kelchner On October - 14 - 2011
Tonight was a historic night for the blue brand, as SmackDown took second place behind Raw for longest-running weekly episodic television show, and it was a memorable show indeed.  SmackDown general manager Teddy Long was joined by interim Raw general manager John Laurinaitis as they announced the special occasion, and in celebration they made a 41-man battle royal, the largest in WWE history. The winner of the 41-man battle royal would be granted a title shot of his choosing and receive that title shot in the main event of the evening. The man who came out on top was none other than ...
