WWE SmackDown, Feb. 1: Del Rio vs. Ziggler, Jack Swagger Returns and More

Posted by Kyle Schadler On February - 2 - 2013
WWE SmackDown opened with Alberto Del Rio pacing in the parking lot. He was holding what looked like a lead pipe and was waiting for The Big Show. There hasn’t been a really good parking lot brawl in a long time, so I hope this turns into something intense and exciting.   Opening Segment In the ring, general manager Booker T was with Teddy Long. He announced that Team Hell No, Randy Orton, Sheamus, The Great Khali and Dolph Ziggler would be competing to see if they could impress Booker enough to enter into the Elimination Chamber. That brought out a ...
CM Punk has reached out to the fan who was shot in the eye and then said watching The Rock beat Punk was the worst thing that had happened to him recently. According to Lordsofpain.net, Punk called in to the Abe Kanan Show, which airs on Sirius XM Radio, to talk to Thomas Dotterer, the 77-year-old fan.  Punk called in to the show to talk with Dotterer and offered him the chance to be his special guest when the WWE runs a show in Syracuse on March 3. Punk apparently has the most loyal and passionate fans in professional wrestling, and Dotterer has taken ...

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On February - 2 - 2013
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my weekly Main Event and SmackDown recap list. I always appreciate my loyal readers, but for those of you who are new, each week I recap SmackDown with a long list. The entries are made up of equal parts observations, humor, recap, play-by-play, revelations, speculations, questions, answers and anything else I notice during the show. I sometimes comment on commercials, too, just because I get bored during them. I try and interject some fun into these lists, so I hope you have fun reading this week's list of the 122 things we learned, loved and hated from the ...
Former WWE Champion CM Punk has been the subject of many articles. Many detail his reign as champion, others discuss the ending of Punk's time at the top, and some look into the future, and ask what it holds for the only Straight-Edge WWE Champion in company history (to be fair though, sXe is something just about anyone could be without saying it. So perhaps we have had Champions who were straight-edge before, but just never made a point to say it. I digress though.)Still, there's an interesting trend I've been seeing regarding Punk for a while now. It's something ...

WrestleMania 29: The Only Way in the World That Rock vs. Cena II Is Acceptable

Posted by Christopher Olmstead On February - 1 - 2013
"Once in a Lifetime."That was the tagline heading into last year's WrestleMania. That was what WWE built up for a full year with The Rock and John Cena. It was going to be a WrestleMania event that would top all other WrestleMania main events, and in some ways it did.Whether you love them or hate them, that night The Rock and John Cena did something special. The build, the hype, the promos, the jokes, the match. When it was all said and done, it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime moment.Fast forward to this year's WrestleMania, which is going to be headlined ...

How WWE Can Avoid the WrestleMania Hangover and Create New Stars

Posted by Justin LaBar On February - 1 - 2013
WWE needs to avoid the WrestleMania hangover on the morning of April 8th. I'm referring to the hangover on Monday morning, realizing WrestleMania Sunday was a great night, but all the fun and stars are gone. The Undertaker, The Rock, Chris Jericho, Triple H and who knows who else will all come in for a WrestleMania feud, but be gone from regular appearances the next day.How does WWE avoid the hangover? Make new stars. Big names coming in for a WrestleMania payday is just as consistent as the trend of those big names winning. If you keep letting the established ...

WWE Finally Decides on WrestleMania 30 Venue?

Posted by Sharon Glencross On February - 1 - 2013
Sure, everyone is currently getting worked up for WrestleMania 29, due to take place on April 7 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. But what about WrestleMania 30 in 2014? (AKA WrestleMania XXX, but the family-friendly company may change that title for obvious reasons). Where will that event, likely to be one of the biggest pay-per-views ever, take place?Previous reports (via WrestlingInc) had thrown out New York's Madison Square Garden as a potential venue for the show. Los Angeles was mentioned as a possibility, too.Stories soon emerged that The Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans—the site of this year's Super ...
This article contains potential spoilers.Once upon a time, WWE programming was can't-miss television. Many of the current batch of 20-something fans were adolescents when the famed Attitude Era was in its full throes. We watched a roster full of Hall-of-Famers like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Mankind, Triple H, The Rock and Shawn Michaels every Monday night. But here we are—more than a decade later—and the man holding WWE's most sought-after prize is a man we watched in his prime during the beloved Attitude Era.In 2013, WWE programming resembles the bumbling efforts of TNA a lot more than it does the ...
