WWE Battleground 2013: Midcard Stars Who Deserve the Spotlight at the Event

Posted by Sharon Glencross On September - 26 - 2013
OK, so WWE’s upcoming Battleground pay-per-view is being built mainly around the angle with The Corporation and the Daniel Bryan/Randy Orton rematch, but shouldn’t some under-appreciated midcard wrestlers be allowed the chance to shine too? Hey, the company can’t just place the focus on the main eventers. It needs to work on having a product that—up and down the card—truly means something. Otherwise fans won’t care about anyone except the top guys and will tune out in their droves any time a non-name talent pops up on television. So, considering this, let’s have a look at the midcard wrestlers who truly deserve ...

CM Punk and the Best Past and Current WWE Superstars to Follow on Twitter

Posted by David Bixenspan On September - 26 - 2013
Yesterday, Sports Illustrated released their third annual "Twitter 100" list of the best sports-related Twitter accounts to follow.  WWE Superstar CM Punk (@CMPunk) made the list, which is presented in alphabetical order with no rankings beyond each account being in the top 100.  He's the only wrestler on the list, but others with pro wrestling connections who made it are: MMA journalist and TV personality Ariel Helwani, who has covered pro wrestling in the past and still interviews wrestlers fairly regularly on his podcast, "The MMA Hour." UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, who's a protege of judo and pro wrestling legend ...

7 Superstars Who Are Future Main Event Talents

Posted by Sharon Glencross On September - 26 - 2013
Right now, WWE is packed full of midcard wrestlers who will likely blossom into main event talents in the future. Considering how thin the company’s main event scene is right now—just how many times are we going to have to suffer through Rob Van Dam vs. Alberto Del Rio?—this is an immense relief. WWE management have the talent, they just need to get behind correctly get behind them. So, factoring in things like charisma, in-ring ability and promo skills, here are the top seven candidates to be headliners in the next few years.Begin Slideshow
WTF is Sunny doing making up stories. How close did Chris Jericho come to giving CM Punk an on-camera tattoo? Does Cox Communications think wrestling is real? Cable powerhouse Cox Communications recently garnered mainstream press for issuing refunds to angry customers who felt hosed after a recent Daniel Bryan pay-per-view victory was reversed. The stunt reeks of shenanigans, as this nature of reimbursement is largely unprecedented. If the show went off the air prematurely, a refund is warranted. If the winner of a UFC bout tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance and was therefore stripped of his title, a refund would ...

7 Performers Who Need to Play a Role in the Triple H Regime Storyline

Posted by Bill Atkinson On September - 24 - 2013
Ever since that memorable turn of events at SummerSlam, Triple H has been running WWE programming and the WWE roster ragged—particularly the babyfaces. With his partner in crime, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H has delighted in cutting the legs out from under popular stars like Daniel Bryan, The Big Show, Rob Van Dam and Dolph Ziggler. He has not once but twice stripped Bryan of the WWE Championship. He has given free reign to Orton and The Shield to stick their noses anywhere they want to because they epitomize his mantra: “What’s Best for Business.” He and Stephanie have stripped Big Show’s character ...
The week in WWE rumors has William Regal in line for a new gig and Rob Van Dam on the way out. Regal's name has come up in the numerous reports on Jim Ross' retirement, while Van Dam may well be done wowing WWE audiences for the time being. Elsewhere, Tony Dawson's absence from the company is explained, as is Roddy Piper's absence from WWE 2K14. As always, these kinds of backstage reports have to be taken with a grain of salt, but the following items all have the ring of truth reverberating off them.   William Regal Ross' recent retirement won't affect commentary much, ...

Examining Titus O’Neil’s Direction, Upside and Long-Term Potential

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On September - 24 - 2013
Titus O'Neil has to race to reach the crest of his ability before his body is unable to keep up. O'Neil is improving in the ring and is nearing his potential, but at age 36, he doesn't have a ton of time to further his development. He joined the wrestling world late and his ability to counteract that disadvantage will determine how high he climbs. He is one half of one of the most entertaining tag teams in WWE, a powerhouse with plenty of charm and a big man in a company where size seems to be a trait going the way ...

Stone Cold Steve Austin Speaks out About Potential In-Ring Return

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On September - 24 - 2013
Don't hold out for the sound of breaking glass to hit; "Stone Cold" Steve Austin says it's unlikely he'll ever return to the ring. Being as huge of a star in the WWE as Austin was makes it hard for fans to let go. Despite being retired and approaching 50 years old, rumors of him making a return for a big bout at WrestleMania are as common as a heel using cheating to win. In an interview on The MMA Hour, via WrestlingInc.com, Austin spoke about a potential return to the ring and fans hoping for another match aren't going to like ...

WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners and Losers After 9/23

Posted by Bill Pivetz On September - 24 - 2013
We are nine days removed from Night of Champions. Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship at the pay-per-view but was stripped of it the following night. Triple H is holding the title in abeyance (his word of the day).  This week, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon acted as babyfaces, playing up to the Chicago crowd. They even served up their own henchmen in an 11-on-3 handicap match. The build for the next pay-per-view, Battleground, is already underway. There are three matches that have already been announced, two of which are rematches from the last pay-per-view. With 12 days left until Battleground, let's ...

WWE Battleground 2013: Superstars That Will Capture Major Victories

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On September - 24 - 2013
The quest for revenge leads to WWE Battleground 2013. CM Punk and Cody Rhodes will savor retribution at the inaugural event while Alberto Del Rio denies his challenger the same pleasure. The pay-per-view offers Punk a shot to shift his hurting win-loss record, Del Rio a chance to remain champion and a means for Rhodes to catapult himself into the limelight. Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton will once again headline, but these three Superstars will end the first-ever Battleground in celebration, ready to charge ahead to the next challenge.   The Best in the World Regains Momentum WWE suckered the audience in at Night of ...
