5 Reality Show Concepts That Would Thrive on Potential WWE Network

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On November - 27 - 2013
The WWE Network is still something that could possibly happen in the near future, and WWE needs programming to fill up the 24-hour schedule. That's where this slideshow comes in. They have plenty of archive footage from defunct promotions they own the rights to as well as a massive library of their own content, but in order to make people want to pay for a whole network they need more original programming. WWE has expanded their brand over the years beyond wrestling to include a few reality shows like Total Divas and Tough Enough, but that's still not enough to fill a whole schedule. What ...

John Cena vs. Randy Orton Unification Match Will Disappoint Fans

Posted by Big Nasty On November - 27 - 2013
John Cena vs. Randy Orton, with both the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships hanging in the balance, is WWE's latest trick to sell pay-per-views. Don't fall for it. Fans were overjoyed at the mere notion of world champion John Cena and WWE champion Randy Orton standing in the ring together as Survivor Series went off the air. When Triple H announced a TLC match for both world championships, the U-word dominated Twitter like a political scandal. If one champion this soon seems too good to be true, it's because it is. While all parties involved have strongly hinted toward the possibility of a title ...
WWE once again put together a stunning program for its midweek show, as WWE Main Event from Uncasville, Conn., was an outstanding program with quality bouts top to bottom. Fans should expect nothing less from the show at this point, considering the wealth of talent currently on the WWE roster. It was an impressive showing for all involved, but especially for the two stars who opened the night's festivities: In the chaotic aftermath of Survivor Series, Main Event helped to hint at the direction for some superstars moving forward. Here's a look at the results from the three-match card with some analysis ...

WWE TLC 2013: Best All-Time Performers in Traditional TLC Matches

Posted by Erik Beaston On November - 27 - 2013
On December 15, World Wrestling Entertainment will present its annual TLC pay-per-view from the Toyota Center in Houston. The main event will feature World Heavyweight champion John Cena taking on WWE champion Randy Orton in a Tables, Ladders and Chairs match. It will be Orton's first opportunity to compete in the bout and only Cena's second appearance in the insanely popular gimmick match. Can they etch their names in the history books alongside the great performers in TLC match history? That remains to be seen. In anticipation for that huge main event between two of the great Superstars of this generation, here is a look ...
Note: Historical business information all sourced from back issues of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. In 1983, pro wrestling was booming all over the country. While there were some signs of what was to come with the rise of cable television, many territories were on fire with some doing unprecedented business. Jim Crockett Promotions was, at that point, the crown jewel of the National Wrestling Alliance. One of the three best paying territories in the United States (along with the AWA and WWF), it kept a huge roster (wrestlers who wanted in were often wait-listed), ran multiple shows a night and was even ...
WTF is John Cena doing with a weight-loss program? Why is the Gobbledy Gooker on Twitter? Why are Cy Young winners carrying around the WWE championship? And who is the WWE Network hiring now? John Cena has launched a Body Change initiative where he vows significant weight loss for clients after 10 weeks. Should clients of this program be successful, Cena’s “you can’t see me” catchphrase will take on a whole new meaning. Cy Young winners Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw were recently awarded with MLB championship belts following their elite accomplishments. The titles looked eerily similar to the WWE championships. Not ...

WWE TLC 2013: Booking Mistakes from Survivor Series That Must Be Avoided

Posted by Sharon Glencross On November - 27 - 2013
Let’s be honest: Sunday’s Survivor Series event was a terrible disappointment of a pay-per-view. It was little more than a glorified Raw, really. And if WWE wishes to turn around its floundering pay-per-view business, it needs to rectify its mistakes at the upcoming TLC show. Alas, there is a genuine possibility that the TLC event will end up being another flop on the company’s pay-per-view calendar. For one thing, the traditionally comedy-filled Slammy Awards will serve as the go-home show. How is that supposed to serve as an opportunity to sell the importance of buying TLC to the masses? Another, arguably bigger, problem ...
Former WWE Superstar Hulk Hogan has been connected to rumors about a possible match at WrestleMania 30, but world heavyweight champion John Cena told TMZ that he supports Hogan’s recent decision to not wrestle at the company’s biggest show. While Cena cites Hogan’s age (60) and mobility as a cause for concern in a possible return to the fast-paced WWE, he claims that a proposed bout between the two legends would be a “dream match.” Instead of changing the subject there, though, Cena adds fuel to the fire by claiming that the WWE needs Hogan for the 30th anniversary of WrestleMania. The ...

Full Career Retrospective and Greatest Moments for Sgt. Slaughter

Posted by Erik Beaston On November - 27 - 2013
Sgt. Slaughter is one of the most recognizable professional wrestlers in the history of the industry. The former United States Marine Corps Sergeant, Slaughter made his pro debut in 1972 with Verne Gagne's American Wrestling Alliance. Over the course of the next 20-plus years, he would be both the most popular and most hated man in the business. As a patriotic babyface, he would rile fans into a frenzy by vanquishing the likes of the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff. As a drill-instructor villain, he was loud, mean and nasty and had no problem dishing out pain and punishment to the top babyfaces ...

Leo Kruger, the American Wolves and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 27 - 2013
Change is afoot at WWE NXT, as Leo Kruger is trying out a new name and gimmick, while The American Wolves—Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards—took a step in changing the developmental landscape. Kruger shed his predatory persona, at least for one night. WWE gave Edwards and Richards new names and put them in the ring against the NXT Tag Team champions. Change is also coming to Full Sail University in the form of a newly signed independent wrestler. On the other side of the world, an Indian taller than The Great Khali has made it clear that WWE is in his sights.  From ...
