Everything Right and Wrong with the 2014 Royal Rumble

Posted by Simon Edmonds On January - 28 - 2014
On Sunday night we were unfortunate enough to witness yet another boring and predictable end to a Royal Rumble match. Honestly, I'm getting a little tired of being able to predict the main event of the evening's winner at least a month before the pay-per-view even airs. That said, the 2014 Rumble—despite leaving a bitter taste in a lot of fans' mouths—did have its high points. This article will analyze both those moments noteworthy of praise as well as those that show us why the WWE is slowly becoming more of a corporate husk and far less of a spectacle of quality entertainment.  Let's ...

Analyzing Why Daniel Bryan Isn’t Pushed as a Star by WWE

Posted by Justin LaBar On January - 28 - 2014
Let me explain what most people don't realize about why WWE doesn't look at Daniel Bryan as a star like the rest of the world. To clarify, when I say WWE, I'm talking about the top-level management. The irony is that most of the company views Bryan the way the audience does. The boys in the locker room and many of the middle men in various departments, they all see Bryan as something big, but they're not decision makers. Up to this point, in the eyes of top management, a chant is over, but not Bryan. The audience uses the “Yes!” chant ...

WWE Raw: Can Daniel Bryan Truly Carry the ‘Yes Movement’?

Posted by Tyler Grote On January - 28 - 2014
Question: Are you chanting "Yes!" because you're genuinely a fan of Daniel Bryan, or are you doing it to illustrate your disgust for creative? It's relatively easy to blast the decisions made by WWE creative of late, but it's a brutal mistake to assume The Authority isn't playing along. We may have a plethora of creative adjectives to describe Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, but stupid shouldn't be one of them. They know what's happening. And rather than own up to recent poor booking, it looks as if they're going to turn the "Yes Movement" inward to begin its inevitable unraveling. And ...

The Good, the Great and the Awesome from Raw 1/27/14

Posted by Erik Beaston On January - 28 - 2014
Just 24 hours removed from a polarizing 2014 Royal Rumble event, Monday Night Raw hit the airwaves live from Cleveland. Daniel Bryan is the talk of the wrestling world, and World Wrestling Entertainment did a far better job spotlighting him Monday night than it did during Sunday's pay-per-view extravaganza. The goat-faced Superstar teamed with John Cena and the returning Sheamus to take on The Shield in six-man tag team action, with the winning trio earning three of the six spots in the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE title in just four weeks. Would the all-star babyface tandem reign supreme, or would ...

WWE Royal Rumble 2014: Why It Was Smart to Bury Daniel Bryan Again

Posted by Brian Mazique On January - 28 - 2014
It's hard to keep a good man down, but sometimes it's the smartest thing to do. Fans were outraged when Daniel Bryan didn't get his number called to participate in the Royal Rumble on Sunday.  Bryan is without question the most beloved WWE Superstar in the world today. Not since Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock were in their prime have we seen a man so universally adored. As a matter of fact, the adoration for Bryan amongst the WWE Universe may have even surpassed those two legends. The man is awesome in the ring, and he has the everyman qualities that ...

WWE Elimination Chamber 2014: Feuds That Will Impact WrestleMania

Posted by Aaron Bower On January - 28 - 2014
After the first pay-per-view of the year, the Royal Rumble, the WWE has just one show left before the biggest pay-per-view of the year: the Elimination Chamber. It is a pay-per-view that has a unique twist attached to it—in the demonic structure of the chamber, anything can happen. It is also the final breeding ground for any rivalries that will move onto WrestleMania, and that is likely what we will see this year. But which rivalries at the Chamber in particular will have an impact on WrestleMania? Let's take a look.Begin Slideshow

Biggest Lessons Learned from Jan. 27 Edition of Raw

Posted by Aaron Bower On January - 28 - 2014
The first Raw following the Royal Rumble pay-per-view is finally in the bag, and it was a pretty decent show. We had some strong developments from the Rumble show, with some new storylines getting further airing on Raw this week. There appears to be a new contender or two for Randy Orton and his WWE World Heavyweight Championship—whilst the old one is well and truly embedded into a new rivalry. And what of The Shield, after Roman Reigns eliminated both of his stablemates in the Rumble? Could they regroup? Let's take a look at the biggest lessons learned from Monday's edition of Raw.Begin Slideshow

Report: Ultimate Warrior May Wrestle Key Opponent at WrestleMania XXX

Posted by Imaan Jalali On January - 28 - 2014
Lost amid the back-and-forth grumblings about the fiasco that was the 2014 Royal Rumble pay-per-view—specifically the lack of Daniel Bryan's involvement—is the imminent return of The Ultimate Warrior to WWE TV. The Warrior, whose time on top of the wrestling world was ultimately short-lived, is still retained in the long-term memories of many fans who either grew up during the 1990s or just watched one of his explosive promos on YouTube. The unbridled passion of the colorful Warrior character—the sprint to the ring, the shaking of the ropes and the summoning of the wrestling gods—was palpable, compelling and, most of all, inspiring. His ...

Full Predictions for Brock Lesnar Following the Royal Rumble

Posted by Sharon Glencross On January - 28 - 2014
At the Royal Rumble, Brock Lesnar delivered a brutal—and downright terrifying—performance as he defeated The Big Show. The match, which barely lasted two minutes, consisted mostly of punches and steel chair shots, before Lesnar ended things with one of the nastiest-looking F5's ever. He wasn't finished there either: After the bout was over, the former UFC champion proceeded to clobber the giant with a whopping 12 more chair shots. All through this, Paul Heyman kept yelling encouragement at his client, as well as bringing in even more chairs for him to use on his barely conscious foe. That's true friendship, right there.   The brawl ...
Sunday night's Royal Rumble wasn't all that bad.  OK, so the actual results (justifiably) led to amazing GIFs such as this one and a whole lot of tweets in the same vein as this one from legend Mick Foley, which pretty much summed everything up: But while the results have an entire fanbase in an absolute uproar, there were some solid moments from the disappointing pay-per-view that are being overlooked.  Although Daniel Bryan being tossed right back into the title hunt by earning a spot in the Elimination Chamber match on the post-Rumble Raw may have slightly quelled some of the anger, let's take ...
