WWE Week in Review, Feb. 1: CM Punk Quits WWE, Batista Wins the Royal Rumble

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On February - 1 - 2014
As the road to WrestleMania gets under way, we look back at what was one of the most controversial weeks in recent WWE history. From Batista emerging victorious in the annual 30-man Royal Rumble match to CM Punk departing the company, fans were left with more questions than answers going into next Monday's Raw. Many members of the WWE Universe were left disappointed by the conclusion of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view that saw Batista earn the right to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 30. Will The Animal continue to target Randy Orton, or ...
Sting is coming to WWE, and he should have his first match with The Undertaker. He should, but he probably won't. That's a mistake. People have been buzzing for years about the possibility of Sting being signed to WWE and working The Undertaker. The last three WrestleMania seasons have featured fantasy talk from fans of seeing this match. The match is intriguing. Both have classic gimmicks fans of various generations know. Both have gimmicks with elements that make them more than the common man. Both have spectacular resumes of work to show for their careers with title wins and notable matches. Both carried ...

Posted by Erik Beaston On February - 1 - 2014
According to F4WOnline, by way of WrestlingInc.com, it appears as though WWE has heard the fans and will give them what they want in regard to Cody Rhodes and Goldust at the upcoming WrestleMania XXX. The split between Cody Rhodes and Goldust may come at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view where a tag team title match is expected. There are plans for Cody vs. Goldust at WrestleMania XXX this year. Goldust was originally signed as a talent through WrestleMania XXX but his deal has been extended through SummerSlam. Once that deal expires, it's expected he will become an agent backstage. The hype for a match between ...
TNA Impact! Wrestling, which was coming off a strong viewership report from last week's edition, had plenty of to feel good about before heading overseas to Glasgow, Scotland. With all the hype surrounding the mystery investor, which turned out to be former WWE star MVP, TNA had a pretty good opportunity to continue to build on that momentum.  However, TNA could not carry over that momentum it had build on last week's edition to this past Thursday night's special treat from Scotland.  The January 30 edition of TNA Impact! Wrestling ended up falling flat, landing 1.45 million viewers and a 0.4 rating ...
The WWE tag team division is in somewhat of a peculiar place at this moment in time. With an essentially part-time team in possession of the belts—no disrespect to the New Age Outlaws, but it is hard to imagine they will be around for the next few years—you have a division that could almost be described as being in turmoil. Cody Rhodes and Goldust were pretty good custodians of the belts, but their reign had gone stale—perhaps given they were never able to fully engage in a real rivalry with a team over a prolonged period. After the Outlaws turned heel a few ...
The Elimination Chamber is much like a mini Royal Rumble. Like the Rumble, much can be discerned about a Superstar's place in the WWE hierarchy by how long they stay in the Chamber, what kind of innovative spots they are a part of and whether or not they even have a chance of winning. In any given Chamber, there are one to two wrestlers favored to win, one dark horse and around three sacrificial lambs. This list is for the lambs. Some of the worst performances in Elimination Chamber history are predicated on time spent in the Chamber, negative crowd reaction and minimal contribution ...

Report: WWE Planning to Make Sting the Raw General Manager?

Posted by Sharon Glencross On February - 1 - 2014
Sting as Raw's general manager sounds like a far-fetched idea. But per one recent report, it may be a very likely possibility. Bryan Alvarez notes in this week's (subscribers-only) F4W Newsletter, that while the WCW legend hasn't officially signed, management sees it as only a matter of time until he does. And, as of now, the tentative plan is to make him the official Raw GM: As far as we know Sting has not signed at press time, but the feeling is it's a foregone conclusion he's coming in. The feeling is that he won't be rushed into a match at WrestleMania, ...

The Good, the Great and the Awesome from SmackDown 1/31/14

Posted by Erik Beaston On February - 1 - 2014
It has been a fairly rough week for wrestling fans. Daniel Bryan was left out of the Royal Rumble, a match that felt significantly less special than previous years' offerings. Just 24 hours later, CM Punk walked out of World Wrestling Entertainment with frustration over creative and the mounting of injuries playing a key role in his decision. Batista won the Royal Rumble despite a very vocal crowd in Pittsburgh detesting the idea of The Animal challenging for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, while John Cena and Randy Orton fought...again. With that said, this writer's inner smart mark danced without shame ...
