Extreme Rules 2014: Champions Who Will Continue Their Reign

Posted by Sharon Glencross On April - 25 - 2014
At WWE's Extreme Rules event next month, look for several of the company's champions to retain their belts and continue their reigns heading into the summer. WWE champion Daniel Bryan will be clashing with former Team Hell No tag partner Kane at the Izod Center. (Man, where is Dr. Shelby to bring these two together when you need him?) Despite Kane’s brutal beatdown of him on Monday, Bryan will almost certainly be retaining. First of all, he only just won the belt at WrestleMania XXX and it's far too soon to take it off him. (And imagined how irate and betrayed his legion ...

WWE Reality Check: Who Sting Should Face When He Turns Up in WWE

Posted by Justin LaBar On April - 25 - 2014
Waiting for a Sting appearance on live WWE programming is starting to feel like waiting a decade for that new Guns N' Roses album. However, I think Sting is finally coming close to his WWE appearance. Let's all agree that the Undertaker won't and shouldn't be his opponent. Who should? I'll explain in this week's Reality Check. Breaking Down the Best and Worst of the WWE for Week of April 21

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On April - 25 - 2014
Mic masters and powerhouses composed the best of the week in WWE. Bray Wyatt showed off his vocal range, Paul Heyman jabbed fans with a single line and Big E and The Ascension impressed in the ring. Those highlights inspired awe and cheering while WWE's crumbling tag division and continued misuse of Emma made it hard not to sigh. Extreme Rules is nearing, and Wyatt has made sure his collision with John Cena in a steel cage will be worth watching. It's harder to say that for Emma's feud with a pair of dancers and a tag team division that is forced to focus on its ...

The Shield vs. Evolution and 7 Greatest Stable Feuds of All Time

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On April - 25 - 2014
The Shield are edging toward war with the reformed Evolution, a rivalry that has the potential to become as memorable as the best stable-versus-stable feuds pro wrestling has ever seen. As a collision between the two groups at Extreme Rules nears, fans' minds naturally drift toward great stable battles of the past. Memories of nWo invading WCW and The Von Erichs tangling with The Freebirds come bubbling back up the surface. The top stable feuds in wrestling history have featured a bounty of classic matches and moments, held the audience's attention for sustained periods and made a lasting impact on the industry ...

Bray Wyatt Playing the Babyface Hurts Feud with John Cena

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On April - 25 - 2014
In March of 1997, recording artist Paula Cole famously requested the whereabouts of her “beloved” cowboys. At the end of her only U.S. top-10 single, she sang helplessly (yet intoxicatingly) though a breathy melody: Where is my Marlboro Man Where is his shiny gun   Where is my lonely ranger  Where have all the cowboys gone In reality, the song was an ironic feminist mockery of traditional gender roles. This wasn't Paula Cole yearning for a masculine idol. She was jeering them. To the general public, however, it's a timeless beckoning call. The term “cowboy” is able to be retrofitted and interpreted in countless ways. Cole’s ...
Built on the foundations of the pay-per-view once known as Backlash, the typical card for an Extreme Rules event is usually little more than a set of WrestleMania rematches with added stipulations. However, things are a little different this year. Only one rematch from the biggest show of the year is currently set for the show on May 4, a Steel Cage match that will see Bray Wyatt attempt to avenge his WrestleMania loss against John Cena. The rest of the card has been assembled in the few weeks since WrestleMania—and as a result, a few of the storylines leading into ...

Paige: The Importance of Holding Both WWE Divas and NXT Women’s Titles

Posted by Sebastian Maldonado On April - 25 - 2014
Ladies and gentlemen: Introducing the current NXT Women’s Champion, Paige! Paige, the self-proclaimed “Anti-Diva,” became the inaugural champion, defeating Emma in an eight-woman tournament on June 30, 2013. She hasn't lost since, holding that title for nearly ten months. Ironically enough, this didn't turn out to be the biggest moment of her career. The 21-year-old champion surprised the WWE universe by appearing on the April 7 edition of Raw, where she congratulated then-champion AJ Lee. However, Lee took offense and challenged Paige to a match. AJ straight out put her Divas title on the line, which ultimately was a huge mistake. Paige caught Lee ...

Mick Foley Should Not Get Heat for Past Daniel Bryan Comments

Posted by David Bixenspan On April - 24 - 2014
Mick Foley has been in the news a lot the past week for comments he's made.   First, he got a lot of attention for his announcement that he was not signing a WWE Legends' contract because he felt he did not get a good explanation for why his video game royalties were down, as reported by Marc Middleton on WrestlingInc.com. Now, it appears that his comments after the Royal Rumble a few months ago caused a bit of unrest in WWE. According to Dave Meltzer in the new Wrestling Observer Newsletter (behind F4WOnline.com paywall), Foley's comments about how Daniel Bryan was being used right after the Royal Rumble ...
After a few lackluster episodes of NXT, this week's broadcast focused heavily on in-ring content and proved to be the best episode in nearly a month. The Corey Graves-Sami Zayn feud was at the forefront of the show as each man tagged with a pair of tag team champions in a major six-man battle. The match was outstanding and showcased six very talented individuals at the same time. More importantly, the finish indicates that the war between Graves and Zayn, which still has mileage if done correctly, will continue. Tyler Breeze continued to show aggression between the ropes as he took on ...

WWE Never Say Never: Will Ric Flair Rejoin Evolution on Raw?

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On April - 24 - 2014
According to PWInsider (via WrestlingInc), Ric Flair has been booked to appear on Raw next week in the old-school territory of St. Louis. With the newly formed Evolution, it’s a safe bet he’ll be in an angle involving his old band mates.  WWE has opted to move forward with a three-man Evolution stable. It is worth noting that this week’s video package wasn’t shy about airing clips that included Ric Flair. This is only peculiar in that WWE could have completely excluded all things Flair if it wanted to, yet he could plainly be seen even by the non-jaded eye.  Suddenly it becomes ...
