The Good, the Great and the Awesome from NXT (5/1/14)

Posted by Erik Beaston On May - 2 - 2014
The Man Who Gravity Forgot took to the air to successfully retain his NXT Championship this week as Adrian Neville knocked off Brodus Clay in a hard-fought No Disqualification match. Neville, who had his teeth knocked out by Clay on last week's show, was determined to get revenge and successfully defend his title. He did just that and continues to surge in 2014. Bo Dallas, the man he defeated for the title, has had significantly less success since NXT Arrival back in February. This week, he dropped a match to Tyson Kidd that, had he won, may have elevated him back to ...
At Extreme Rules this Sunday, don’t be surprised if Ric Flair turns on The Shield and helps Evolution win the six-man tag match. Flair, of course, made his long-awaited return to WWE on Monday. Everyone—including Evolution—was expecting Flair to heartily endorse his former teammates. The two-time Hall of Famer had other ideas, though. He turned around and promptly proceeded to give his stamp of approval to Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. Triple H looked rather disgruntled with his one-time mentor’s antics. Even The Shield looked taken aback. Honestly, the whole thing came off as rather flat and a big anticlimax, especially for ...
Bray Wyatt's turn at choirmaster was chilling, and it's no surprise that it dominated WWE social media this week. Images of that segment and jokes about him and his mask-wearing allies provided many of the week's most notable WWE-related tweets, viral videos and Instagram photos. Paige, a reimagining of Evolution, Zeb Colter's take on Sting coming to WWE and Randy Orton's best weapon provided the other highlights of WWE's social media offerings. WWE featured Orton's RKO in the latest "WWE Top 10" video. One learns an important lesson by watching him hit the finisher on The Undertaker, John Cena and others. It's best not to dive ...

Bray Wyatt Will Bring Out the Best in John Cena at Extreme Rules

Posted by Justin LaBar On May - 2 - 2014
For those who criticize John Cena's same old routine all of these years, you need to place some blame on who Cena had to work with. Cena's opponents were often too similar to himself. They were the typical WWE guy, wrestlers like The Rock, Randy Orton and Batista. These are all guys who had different levels of charisma but were in many ways alike. They are nothing like Bray Wyatt, though. At Extreme Rules, Wyatt is going to force the best out of Cena in a way we haven't seen. I'm not talking about a fast-talking Hollywood star getting his one-liner sexual innuendos in or getting the audience ...

Breaking Down the Best and Worst of the WWE for Week of April 28

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On May - 2 - 2014
Bray Wyatt seized the WWE fans' attention this week, hypnotizing them with haunting images. Both his creepy sing-along on Monday's Raw and intense battle with Sheamus the next night highlighted the best of WWE's offerings. Several Divas joined in him in thriving on-air. A host of female wrestlers reminded us of that their division can be more than just cheap filler. WWE's flops of the week featured Damien Sandow's continued downward slide and a notable absence of extremeness in an event that is supposed to be built around it. Wyatt will have the opportunity to paint a violent masterpiece at Extreme Rules that helps ...

WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Superstars Most Likely to Surprise

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On May - 2 - 2014
Although they may stand outside of the Extreme Rules 2014 spotlight, Alexander Rusev and others have a great chance to put the audience's attention in a headlock. The focus heading into the event will be on Bray Wyatt trying to yank the darkness from inside of John Cena, The Shield taking on Evolution and Daniel Bryan's quest for revenge. Emerging stars and an underrated talent will be looking to steal the show from those stories. Great talent meets low expectations for the Superstars on this list. Add quality opponents to that mix, and there is reason to believe that Rusev and company will surprise ...

WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Stars with Most to Lose at PPV Event

Posted by Aaron Bower On May - 2 - 2014
As with every other pay-per-view event the WWE hosts, the pressure is well and truly on at Extreme Rules 2014. Whilst there are some guys on the roster who can relax at the event and compete without a huge weight on their shoulders, there are some who have plenty at stake. Whether it is guys who are just about to get their first crack at success in a lengthy period, or guys who are in need of a strong showing to stay at the top, there is plenty to look at when it comes to men who have things to lose. With Extreme ...
It's almost time for the 2014 edition of Extreme Rules—a show that often promises much in the way of drama and excitement. With more stipulations than any other pay-per-view, the onus is on the WWE and its roster to deliver a show of high quality as we continue to head out of WrestleMania XXX. Some of those matches with stipulations should see guys flourish and prosper to new, exciting heights—which can only be a good thing for those watching the show. But which men in particular will thrive in the surroundings they have been thrust into by WWE Creative?   Rob Van Dam While a Triple ...

WWE Never Say Never: Will There Be Blood at WWE Extreme Rules?

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On May - 2 - 2014
This Sunday, WWE will roll out Extreme Rules, its first post-WrestleMania pay-per-view. The origin of this franchise was WWE's ill-fated reprisal of Extreme Championship Wrestling. It all started when the One Night Stand pay-per-view did well in 2005, and ECW returned by popular demand the next year. WWE's in-house version of ECW went against almost everything the brand had once stood for. Corporate partners. Cable television. Accepting WWE paychecks—okay, almost everything it stood for. Needless to say, WWE's ECW flamed out by 2010. The One Night Stand/Extreme Rules franchise carries with it a format where every top match is competed under "Extreme Rules," or ...

Ric Flair Endorsing The Shield Signifies the Torch Being Passed

Posted by Sebastian Maldonado On May - 2 - 2014
Ric Flair endorsed a wrestling stable to win on May 4 at Extreme Rules. It wasn’t the team anyone expected. The Nature Boy made quite the entrance on the April 28 edition of Raw. He hugged Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista, each of whom are his former Evolution band mates. These three men will take on Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules. Flair went on to discuss how he witnessed everything come full circle. The word greatness came to mind, and Flair stated that he was surrounded by it. However, he didn’t describe Evolution. Flair was crediting ...
