For as much as some people don't see the forest from the trees with regards to John Cena winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship last night at Money in the Bank in Boston, WWE is clearly trying to elevate a number of wrestlers right now: Bray Wyatt is the centerpiece of billboard advertising campaigns for a number of house shows and is clearly being groomed for a babyface turn down the line. Roman Reigns is a highly protected babyface who always gets the better of The Authority. Seth Rollins is being groomed as a top heel. Rusev is being brought along slowly but is ...

Ranking Every Guest Host in WWE Raw History

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On June - 30 - 2014
On June 15, 2009, Donald Trump "bought" Monday Night Raw from Vince McMahon. The next week, McMahon decided he wanted to buy the franchise back for double the money he sold it for when he saw Trump was going to make the program commercial-free each and every week. However, one of the caveats of the blockbuster deal was that a celebrity, past or present wrestling personality, or anyone for that matter would serve as the guest host of Raw each week. It was a win-win deal for WWE, which got more mainstream media while the celebrities were given an opportunity to ...

Money in the Bank 2014: Stars Who Failed to Deliver on the Big Stage

Posted by Sharon Glencross On June - 30 - 2014
While Money in the Bank was an overall great pay-per-view, several stars on the roster failed to live up to expectations, or even make much of an impression at all. Thanks to her spot on the E! reality show Total Divas and an upcoming part in WWE Studios’ action flick The Marine 4: Moving Target, Summer Rae is clearly being positioned for a big role in the Divas division. Alas, judging by her mediocre match with Layla El, she doesn’t seem even remotely ready for such a spot. That she lost the short, shambolic match clean—and proceeded to weep profusely afterwards—probably didn’t help ...
On a show as action-packed as last night's Money in the Bank, it's no surprise that there are going to be a few great moments that go under the radar. The big incidents like John Cena's title win and Seth Rollins taking possession of the Money in the Bank briefcase are bound to dominate any discussion of the show, and with good reason. These are the happenings that will have the most impact on storylines in the coming weeks. However—and this is something WWE seemed to have forgotten for a time—a three-hour show like the one Sunday night isn't just about the ...

WWE Money in the Bank 2014: Most Memorable Moments from PPV Event

Posted by Erik Beaston On June - 30 - 2014
Matches and stories attract an audience, but the individual moments are what fans remember forever.  Hogan slamming Andre, Mankind's first title win and "the Austin era has begun!" are all images from shows that were very good as a whole but whose moments shine brighter. While none were as poignant or historical as any of the three mentioned above, Sunday night's Money in the Bank pay-per-view featured several great moments that fans will be able to look back on years from now with great fondness and instantly recall what show they are from. Some featured young stars making names for themselves in the ...

WWE Programming’s Best Match for Week of June 28

Posted by Brad Jones On June - 28 - 2014
This week, WWE television was littered with extremely short matches—four of the 10 matches on Monday Night Raw didn't even last two minutes. It's not unusual to see in-ring action take a backseat in the final build to a pay-per-view, but as Money in the Bank approaches, there has certainly been a sense that much is being saved for the show on Sunday. All that being said, there were a couple of excellent television matches this week that certainly stood out from the crowd.   Honourable Mention Sheamus continued his lengthy streak of great television matches in an entertaining bout against Bray Wyatt on this ...

Usos vs. Wyatts Is the Perfect Feud for WWE Tag Team Championships

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On June - 28 - 2014
The tag team feud between The Usos and The Wyatts already has a template. Throughout 2014, fans have been treated to a lengthy feud between John Cena and Bray Wyatt. The rivalry had its ups and downs, but it achieved WWE and Cena’s admitted goal of ushering in the next generation. Basic as it may sound, Wyatt and Cena worked well together as rivals because they were perfect foils for one another. On one hand was the square-jawed, cookie-cutter babyface in John Cena. He’s an All-American, real-life Superman who proudly trots out to the ring after a patriotic pre-match salute. Cena’s bright neon colors ...
The WWE that existed when Payback went off the air on June 1 is no more. Gone is the dominant Shield, a trio of Superstars so unstoppable that the reformed Evolution was no match for it. The faction has been shattered, leaving three young competitors in its path who are ready to carry the promotion into the future. All three have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Roman Reigns could prove all speculation true by ascending the ladder and capturing the top prize in all of sports entertainment, becoming the latest breakout star for a company desperately in need of one. Dean ...
