Examining Val Venis’ Post-WWE Pro Wrestling Career

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On June - 26 - 2014
When WWE cut Val Venis loose, he ventured into other pro wrestling worlds, proving he still had miles left in him. He circled back to his own beginnings, working in Japan and lodges, but now picking up gigs with the power of his WWE resume. While the sun is clearly setting on his career, he has yet to let night come.    The Attitude Era's steaminess didn't stop with the women. Venis portrayed a porn star who could also handle himself in the ring. A towel draped around him, gyrating as he rubbed himself, he would call out, "Hello ladies" in a ...

Posted by Justin LaBar On June - 26 - 2014
It was recently reported by PWInsider.com (h/t Wrestle Zone) that Josh Mathews was released from WWE this past week after over a decade of being with the company. Most of Mathews' time with the company was spent as an announcer. This week, I give a Reality Check on his departure from WWE.   Follow @JustinLaBar  Read more Pro Wrestling news on BleacherReport.com

WWE Money in the Bank 2014: Full Predictions for Each Contest on the Card

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On June - 26 - 2014
Money in the Bank is turning into one of the more unpredictable events in recent history, mainly because both of the Ladder matches do not have clear front-runners. As of this writing, there are four official matches set for the pay-per-view, but some recent events make a few additions to the card inevitable. Unlike past MITB events, this year will feature both a Ladder match for the coveted briefcase and another for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This creates a number of possibilities, including the winner of the title shot cashing in immediately on whoever comes out on top in the title ...
You may or may not have noticed that during WrestleMania season, Vince McMahon was advertised, both as his Mr. McMahon character and as himself, for a number of events, only to be pulled from subsequent advertisements.  At the same time, Stephanie McMahon's on-screen title kept changing.   Now, as of this past Monday, Mr. McMahon is still missing in action, and Stephanie is "the principal owner of World Wrestling Entertainment."  According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (F4WOnline subscribers-only link, h/t WrestlingInc.com), the reason for this is that the Mr. McMahon character has been retired. This doesn't mean that we'll never see ...
The wrestling ring is supposed to be the stage on which WWE's dramas play out, but Paul Heyman makes ringside his own showcase of acting, emoting and entertainment. Too many managers are scarecrows on the outside of the ring. Heyman is a Shakespearean actor out there, contorting his face and manipulating his posture to accentuate the story that is playing out between the wrestlers. Every near-fall or chinlock is an opportunity for Heyman to add to the matches his clients are in.  The best performers make wrestling bouts feel important, up the value of victory and the pain of defeat. No one does ...
The Shield may have splintered, but the three men behind the group are still at the top of the WWE. In recent weeks, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns have dominated programming. Each of them has experienced time in the spotlight since the shocking split on the June 2 episode of Raw. This momentum looks set to continue into the Money in the Bank pay-per-view as the three men will all take part in one of the two Ladder matches. The continued animosity between the turncoat Rollins and his unhinged former ally Ambrose is the centerpiece of the traditional contract match. ...
Money in the Bank is this Sunday, and it’s a pay-per-view currently dominated with a theme of having more questions than answers. As of this writing, Wade Barrett’s status for the pay-per-view is up in the air. As was confirmed by WWE.com, Barrett suffered a shoulder injury at Tuesday’s SmackDown tapings. The injury is serious enough to where I had to change my pick for a forthcoming Money in the Bank preview on B/R Video (I had previously picked Barrett.). This is not the first time an injury would cause Barrett to miss a major pay-per-view. A partial dislocation of Barrett’s left elbow ...

Bad News Barrett Injury: Updates on WWE Star’s Shoulder and Return

Posted by Joseph Zucker On June - 24 - 2014
It's bad news for Wade Barrett, but good news for fans of irony. The WWE Superstar injured his shoulder during Tuesday night's SmackDown taping. Dr. Chris Amann, a physician for WWE, told WWE.com that "Bad News" Barrett "sustained an injury to his right shoulder when he was thrown into the barricade by Jack Swagger." "After Barrett felt an immediate pain and a pop, we brought him back to the training room and the exam showed a separated shoulder," Amann added. "We’re going to do some additional testing this week and then sit down with him and talk about options for treatment for ...

WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from June 24

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On June - 24 - 2014
Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of WWE Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program. We are counting down the days until Money in the Bank, but WWE still has to worry about making the shows leading up to the event worth watching. This week's Main Event was pretty average, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Main Event has been very hit-or-miss since it debuted, so an average week is actually a good week. There were three matches this week that all had ...
Raw’s go-home show for Money in the Bank was filled with last-minute surprises, ladder match additions and, yes, mud. Vince McMahon’s imprints on Raw seem more apparent, as another week featured a WWE diva covered in a nefarious substance. Guerrero celebrated her final appearance on Raw (for now) covered in mud before getting even with Stephanie McMahon, who also took a reluctant dive in the kiddie pool of doom. Too much of this slapstick humor and WWE may have to increase its janitorial budget, which we all know is against the promotion’s cost-cutting mindset at the moment. Roman Reigns' mindset continues to be ...
