With the next NXT special, NXT Takeover: Evolution, set for December 11, it is becoming clearer and clearer that Sami Zayn's quest to wear the brand's heavyweight championship will culminate on that night with a match against current titleholder Adrian Neville. To get to that point, he must continue to overcome the roadblocks put in his way. He did just that Thursday night, knocking off Titus O'Neil and fielding yet another challenge, this one from Tyler Breeze for a match next week. No one said it would be easy, but Zayn is proving quite the resilient competitor, and that resiliency could prove ...

Damien Sandow Saved His Career with the Mizdow Persona

Posted by Sebastian Maldonado On October - 31 - 2014
Raise your hands if you thought Damien Sandow would become a significant factor this year. Now, who actually believed that after last year? It was one year ago when Damien Sandow cashed in his Money In The Bank briefcase for the now-defunct World Heavyweight Championship. He would’ve won it too, if it hadn’t been for John Cena. Cena held his title with an iron fist and overcame Sandow with an Attitude Adjustment for the victory. Sandow hasn’t earned a title shot ever since. In fact, he hasn’t been relevant in the wrestling world after that opportunity went up in smoke. Sandow has dabbled ...
Sami Zayn's road to redemption continued this week as NXT hit the WWE Network airwaves! Challenged by Titus O'Neil to a main event match, the man formerly known as El Generico was faced with a scenario where he either would continue his winning ways or suffer a crippling setback on his road to the NXT title. Was he unable to overcome the man who so physically dominated him just weeks earlier, or was he able to catch the big man off guard and score a monumental victory? With the Lucha Dragons looking for new No. 1 contenders, a Battle Royal featuring five ...

Tyson Kidd Continues to Prove He Deserves More Spotlight

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On October - 30 - 2014
The Tyson Kidd show is WWE's best off-Broadway production going. At the bottom of the card, on the company's lesser-seen shows, Kidd is the making the case that he needs to be a higher priority. Find him a cut of center stage: His athletic prowess and evolving character demand as much. The swift-footed Canadian was once relegated to the "underrated" category. He was a skilled ring worker who appealed to purist fans but didn't have enough beyond that to move past his eye-catching peers. CM Punk famously gave him a shout-out on Raw, calling him WWE's workhorse. That label, like the "underrated" one, is ...

Rebuilding WWE’s Roster and Booking

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On October - 30 - 2014
WWE is in need of remodeling. A roster featuring young, promising talent finds itself up against repetitive booking patterns and hesitancy to allow new names on the marquee. When Cesaro told Liverpool Echo's Neil Docking, "I'm sick of seeing John Cena against Randy Orton for the 500th time," he was far from alone. There's both a staleness and spark to WWE right now. Men like Cesaro keep rapping on the door that separates the midcard from the main event. He is a key member of a group of wrestlers brimming with potential. Too often, though, WWE is not opening that door for men seemingly in line ...
WWE announced their third-quarter results this morning. For the fourth consecutive quarter, WWE reported negative net income. Fans and analysts alike have been keenly interested in the latest WWE Network subscription numbers. The WWE Network announced expansion to over 170 countries and territories in an Aug. 12 press release. Many people expected that a strong SummerSlam build combined with new international growth could provide a much-needed boost to the number of WWE Network subscribers. Instead, WWE's announced that as of Sept. 30, there were 731,000 paid subscribers to the WWE Network. That was split between 703,000 subscribers to the domestic version of ...

Randy Orton Must Continue to Channel His Demonic Best to Become a Hit

Posted by Aaron Bower On October - 30 - 2014
Sometimes when you watch professional wrestling, there are seemingly random moments that stick firmly in the memory. It could be a particular move that makes your jaw drop, or it could be a sentence someone says that makes you appreciate just how talented a worker someone is. And on the edition of Raw following Hell in a Cell, an unhinged Randy Orton uttered the following line from absolutely nowhere: "I'll calm down when he's dead!" Aimed at his new adversary Seth Rollins, it was a hark back to the Orton who used to terrorize people in the WWE in the mid-to-late 2000s. If a ...

Examining How WWE Can Revive Dolph Ziggler as a Main Eventer

Posted by Sharon Glencross On October - 30 - 2014
Dolph Ziggler has been the victim of some truly horrendous booking over the last 18 months. Ever since his botched run with the World Heavyweight Championship in early 2013, he’s struggled greatly to remain important. He’s frequently lost on television and pay-per-view, been unable to find a meaningful program or get decent interview time and has generally been treated as a lower-midcard joke. For a guy once touted as one of the future stars of the company, this had to have been deeply demoralizing. Things have gotten somewhat better over the past couple of months, though—he’s the current intercontinental champion, and it ...
WWE Survivor Series 2014 won't have to do much to surpass last year's event but will need a number of home runs to climb past the 1987 and 2001 editions of the pay-per-view. Survivor Series has seen its share of peaks and valleys throughout its history. Its early years saw the top stars battle in traditional Elimination matches. In the early '00s, the event tapped into that bout again with high stakes and big names powering the action. In between, there were plenty of shows worth forgetting. Can Team Cena vs. Team Authority surpass Team WWF vs. Team Alliance?  Don't count on it. ...

Survivor Series, Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose and More from Team Mailbag

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On October - 30 - 2014
Remember when Survivor Series was filled with elimination matches? Some years, each team even assumed a nickname, usually in honor of its captain. There was Razor Ramon’s Bad Guys, The Undertaker’s Darkside, Lex Luger’s All-Americans and Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team, to name a few. 2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Jerry Lawler’s Royal Family taking on Doink the Clown’s Clowns R Us, and WWE has rediscovered the lost art of the Survivor Series team name. This year’s main event is shaping up to be Team Cena vs. Team Authority. Not the most creative names ever, but it’s a start. @ThisIsNasty predicitons for the SurvivorSeries match ...
