WWE Superstar Power Rankings for 12/29/2014: New-Year Edition

Posted by Alex Musso On December - 29 - 2014
The end of 2014 is upon us, and the final WWE Superstar Power Rankings of the year is without too many changes from last week. We saw WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper make appearances on WWE TV this past week. On top of that, we saw two title matches. For a holiday week, it was a fairly eventful set of shows. It's clear that things are heating up in anticipation for WWE Royal Rumble 2015.   We'll get into all this past week's action in the following slides. But before we move on, please read how these rankings work. Holding ...

WWE Pushed to Punished, Edition 44: The Samoan Spike of Umaga

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On December - 28 - 2014
In WWE Pushed to Punished, I analyze the controversial careers of past and present WWE Superstars who were once in the good graces of management but ultimately met their downfall for one reason or another. Umaga was a prime example of someone WWE never used to their full potential. From the moment he arrived on the main roster in April of 2006, Umaga instilled fear in the hearts of fans and Superstars alike. He was booked like an unstoppable force for many months and had the impressive in-ring skills to back it up. Umaga ran rampant on the entire Raw roster and ...

John Cena Should Lose to Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble

Posted by Sharon Glencross On December - 28 - 2014
John Cena is heading for a major clash with Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at next month's Royal Rumble. If WWE bookers are smart and sensible enough to look at the bigger picture, Cena should lose. Understandably, few fans seem excited about the Lesnar-Cena match in Philadelphia. It's just not an appetizing prospect. It's been done too many times before. People want to see new, fresh faces and new, dynamic programs in the main event scene, which are experiences this angle is simply not providing. It's hard to see the match—their fourth on pay-per-view since Lesnar returned in 2012—being a ...
To determine the true winners and losers of this week's episode of WWE SmackDown, fans must ask themselves how much credibility a special holiday-week edition of the show actually has. Sure, there was a Christmas theme to the show, but it did not overwhelm like Monday night. There were wrestling and show-long storylines but nothing with any long-reaching effect on the company going forward. Thus, to determine who is better off and who is not coming out of Friday's broadcast, one must look at it as a standalone presentation. In that context, winners are the Superstars and Divas who were able to build upon ...

WWE Programming’s Best Match for Week of December 27

Posted by Brad Jones On December - 27 - 2014
While the holidays can be a slow time for WWE television in terms of storylines, we've been treated to a few excellent matches over the course of this festive week. It's clear that there is plenty of talent eager to clutch at the "brass ring"—and with inexperience seemingly having some influence over plans for the Royal Rumble, it could be the perfect time for a standout performer to start to receive the due that was earned.   Honourable Mentions Raw started off with a bang this week, as John Cena and Seth Rollins continued their excellent run of matches. Rollins certainly seems to bring ...

Dolph Ziggler Is Biggest Dark Horse in 2015 Royal Rumble

Posted by Erik Beaston On December - 27 - 2014
Every once in a while, a push comes from out of nowhere and leads to a change in booking plans, thanks in large part to the reception it receives from the audience. Since the build to Survivor Series, Dolph Ziggler has broken out of WWE's crowded midcard to become a featured player on both Raw and SmackDown. At the annual November event, he was the sole survivor of the Team Cena vs. Team Authority match—the man as responsible for ousting Triple H and Stephanie McMahon from power as the debuting Sting. He followed that performance up by capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship ...
Ring Rust Radio is the best wrestling show on the airwaves, and this week was no different. With strong opinions on Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and more, this is where you need to go to get all of your weekly WWE nuggets. Bleacher Report featured columnists Mike Chiari, Donald Wood and Brandon Galvin give the lowdown on everything going on in the wrestling world. TNA star Bobby Lashley also joined the show to offer his inside perspective on the business. With another unpredictable episode of Ring Rust Radio in the books, you can't afford to miss another second of the action. Catch us live every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ...

WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from December 26

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On December - 27 - 2014
Every week on Bleacher Report, I take an in-depth look at WWE SmackDown to recap the action, offer analysis and grade the matches, segments and anything else that takes place on the show. I also provide some predictions on the direction of storylines. The final SmackDown of 2014 featured a title match, an appearance by Hulk Hogan and some decent wrestling. There was definitely a few highlights, but it was a pretty average show in the end. Most of the big feuds were addressed in one way or another, with video packages standing in for any talents who didn't actually appear. WWE still had ...

Breaking Down the Best and Worst of the WWE for Week of Dec. 22

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On December - 26 - 2014
WWE celebrated Christmas by putting its female wrestlers in Santa outfits, dressing a miniature bull like a reindeer and letting the beastly Luke Harper loose. It was a week full of holiday-themed goofiness, but Harper's hard-hitting style and the NXT Women's Championship match provided violent highlights amid all that. The former member of The Wyatt Family composed two excellent matches. Charlotte and Sasha Banks nearly outdid their bout at NXT TakeOver: R Evolution. The main roster Divas division and WWE's tag teams suffered the brunt of the lazy booking that is commonplace this time of year. Cheap laughs and sex appeal dominated ...

WWE Royal Rumble 2015: Most Controversial Moments in PPV’s History

Posted by Erik Beaston On December - 26 - 2014
The Royal Rumble is an event that has been in existence for well over two decades and serves as the first stop on the Road to WrestleMania. With a legacy of monumental moments and matches, it is only natural the Rumble has been home to some of the most controversial occurrences ever witnessed by the WWE Universe.  Whether it was the Rock and the Corporation conspiring to screw Mankind out of the WWE Championship or Bret Hart and Lex Luger hitting the arena floor at the same time, thus becoming the first co-winners of the Royal Rumble match, the show has had ...
