WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from July 16

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On July - 16 - 2015
Every week on Bleacher Report, I take an in-depth look at WWE SmackDown to recap the action, offer analysis and grade the matches, segments and anything else that takes place on the show, as well as make a few predictions for future events. With just a few days to go until Battleground, this was WWE's last chance to put a bow on all the feuds that will make up the matches on the pay-per-view card. With Ryback's status changing after an unfortunate injury, reported by WWE.com, the Intercontinental Championship will no longer be defended. This means something new has to take the place ...

WWE Rumors: Breaking Down Buzz on Undertaker, Sting at SummerSlam

Posted by Aaron Bower On July - 16 - 2015
With WWE arguably needing a major shot in the arm ahead of SummerSlam, rumors have begun to circulate suggesting two huge stars are on the verge of returning to the company. PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reports that The Undertaker could well be set to return to WWE in the next week to build toward a program for a match at SummerSlam this year—a phenomenal development. That in itself is huge news, but it was followed up by the emergence of rumors linking not only Taker with SummerSlam but another man who hasn't been seen since WrestleMania season: Sting.  Per Dave Meltzer (h/t WrestlingInc.com), The Icon's ...

Dolph Ziggler reportedly re-signed with WWE, according to PWInsider (h/t WrestlingInc). That same report noted that Ziggler is now off shooting a movie for WWE Studios. What other perks lie in his new contract? A lighter schedule? More pink t-shirts? Perhaps a title shot?   Reigning, Defending Dolph Ziggler? @ThisIsNasty do you ultimately see Ziggler being the Champ? — Divided Heaven (@DividedHeaven) July 15, 2015 It'll be interesting to see how well Ziggler is booked under his new deal. Ziggler really didn't have much leverage, since his comedy career is still in its early stages and there don't seem to be very many big-money opportunities ...

Finn Balor Must Stay in NXT Until 2016

Posted by James Moffat On July - 16 - 2015
Finn Balor reached the pinnacle of WWE NXT at Beast in the East, claiming the NXT title from Kevin Owens in a match bound to be replayed for a long time. His ascension in WWE’s developmental territory has been swift, prompting calls from the Internet Wrestling Community for Balor to make the immediate jump to the main roster. Not so fast. There’s no question that Balor is more than ready to compete with the best of the best on the main roster. Staying in NXT isn’t going to help him better prepare for the eventual call-up. What it will do, however, is ensure ...

WWE Battleground 2015: Best Moments from Buildup to PPV Event

Posted by Aaron Bower On July - 16 - 2015
Given the hectic run of pay-per-views over the last two months, the road to WWE Battleground has felt like an incredibly long run. Five weeks' worth of shows between Battleground and Money in the Bank have enabled plans to be put down and storylines to be significantly invested in as the final show before SummerSlam draws ever closer. And although there have been some dark days for several stars on the path to Battleground, there have also been some standout moments along the way, with these being the pick of them.   John Cena's Epic With Cesaro It seems to be becoming more and more ...

To say 2015 has been a banner year for WWE would be an understatement considering everything that has transpired up to this point. From the rise of NXT talent to the crowning of new champions, it's been one of the more memorable years in the last decade. When reflecting on the first half of the year, many moments of monumental significance come to mind, including the epic ending to WrestleMania 31. Just one week after undergoing a successful operation to remove a benign tumor from his neck, TNA star Kurt Angle was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery to remove fluid buildup on his spinal cord. The six-time TNA world heavyweight champion's condition and the events leading up to the procedure were described by his management via his Twitter account: Following last week's neck surgery, Angle posted an update on Instagram and seemed upbeat about his health: The 1996 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling re-signed with the company in December after talk of a potential return to WWE, where he spent the first eight ...

WWE NXT Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from July 15

Posted by Erik Beaston On July - 16 - 2015
Samoa Joe's debut in World Wrestling Entertainment was years in the making. Perhaps that is why his status as the biggest loser from Wednesday night's episode of NXT is so troubling. The former Ring of Honor and TNA world heavyweight champion was one of the hottest stars in the industry throughout the 2000s, his in-ring ability and badass attitude captivating fans across the country. When his contract with the latter company ran out last year and Joe became a free agent, many expected him to jump to WWE for the first time in his career. And he did, arriving in NXT at Takeover: ...
