WWE Programming’s Best Matches for Week of November 21

Posted by Brad Jones On November - 28 - 2015
Last week, Bleacher Report readers voted a remarkable match between Roman Reigns and Cesaro from Monday Night Raw as the best bout of the previous seven days. Given that this was the Swiss Superman's last televised match before he was headed for surgery to remedy a rotator cuff injury that has reportedly been in play for between two and four months, the match is even more of an achievement. Cesaro is one of the premier in-ring talents on the roster at the moment, and his absence will be felt over the next several months. There will always be a strong demand for ...
There was not much for wrestling fans to be thankful for following a subpar Survivor Series pay-per-view and an even more lackluster episode of Monday Night Raw, yet there was still a sense of joy surrounding Thursday's episode of SmackDown. Holiday editions of WWE programming are always great fun, and with a main event pitting Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler and Tyler Breeze against each other for the right to be the No. 1 contender to the WWE Intercontinental Championship, the likelihood that fans would get some great wrestling out of the show was enticing. While there were segments that tried to be ...

WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE TLC 2015 for Week of Nov. 27

Posted by Aaron Bower On November - 27 - 2015
A disappointing Survivor Series is fast fading into memory, with this week's rumors built around the stars who weren't at the marquee pay-per-view. WWE is dealing with a number of big names off TV at the moment, with numerous reasons behind the multiple absences.  This week's rumors go some way toward clarifying when we'll see not only currently absent names, but one that has just signed up to the company, too.   Lana's Heat Backstage Now 'Nuclear' It's not a good time for Lana, with the currently absent Diva now experiencing what is being described as 'nuclear' heat backstage.  The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t WrestlingInc) notes ...

Roman Reigns, Low Ratings, Seth Rollins and More in the Viewership Mailbag

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On November - 27 - 2015
Raw's ratings spent much of the summer, and now some of the winter, reaching new record lows. Per F4WOnline (h/t WrestlingInc.com), Raw's viewership sunk below 3 million this past Monday for the first time since 1997. In times like these, fans who frequent message boards take the opportunity to insist that WWE call up Samoa Joe to solve all their problems. But the real solution is patience. @ThisIsNasty How can everyone in the @WWE Universe realize the current state of the product is so bad, but creative is so blind to reality? — Brian Patterson (@BNotoriousPAT) November 25, 2015 The day is always darkest ...
Survivor Series and its aftermath tested WWE fans' patience. While Charlotte vs. Paige impressed on Monday's Raw and Alberto Del Rio vs. Roman Reigns thrived in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament, there was far too much on the week's programming that was blase, misguided or painfully underwhelming.  Even The New Day were off their games. The normally entertaining group found themselves trying to wade through terrible Thanksgiving-themed material. The elimination matches that Survivor Series is famous for showed just how little WWE's writing team tries at times. Fans saw thrown-together nothing contests that hurt a pay-per-view that ranks as one of 2015's most frustrating shows ...

WWE TLC 2015: Power Ranking Every Card in PPV’s History

Posted by Erik Beaston On November - 27 - 2015
TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs is an event heavy on gimmick matches as World Wrestling Entertainment attempts to end the year with a bang. One look at the six-year history of the event suggests it has both succeeded and failed on occasion, leading to a very clear divide in what was and was not successful. Some cards were strong from top to bottom, while others rose up the ranks on the backs of all-time classic main events. On December 13, WWE will deliver the latest incarnation of the event, headlined by Roman Reigns' quest to capture the world heavyweight title from Sheamus in ...

Sheamus and the Best WWE Mic Mastery for Week of November 23

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 27 - 2015
With a cacophony of criticism around him, it was hard to hear Sheamus deliver some of the best mic work of his WWE career. The much-maligned, newly crowned world champ looked energized by his title reign. And in two lesser-seen moments, he was the right mix of egotist and irritant. Sheamus exceeded expectations as a talker in both an interview with Michael Cole and an appearance on ESPN. His success in those spots, and how much more engaging he was than he is on average, makes a strong case that WWE should loosen the leash on every Superstar. Less restricted by script, Sheamus stumbled on ...

Vince McMahon’s Failed Attempt to Take over Bodybuilding

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 27 - 2015
Vince McMahon, already the sultan of the squared circle, wanted to expand his empire to bodybuilding. He looked to do to bodybuilding what he did to pro wrestling: amplify its spectacle, make it larger than life and have it grow from niche sport to entertainment phenomenon. In 1990, the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) owner created the World Bodybuilding Federation, his second company built around oiled-down, muscular men.  The narrative arcs of the two enterprises couldn't be more different. WWE grew from a regional promotion into a global giant. McMahon's company saw wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, The Rock and John Cena become household names. ...

WWE Is in Desperate Need of a Big-Money Babyface

Posted by Tom Clark On November - 27 - 2015
WWE is in the midst of a low point in terms of main event talent.  While fans are well aware of this, they may not be aware of just how bad it is, because all of the focus is on Sheamus and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, not the assortment of top babyfaces that will challenge him. The truth is there's no assortment of top babyfaces that will challenge him.  WWE needs more protagonists in the mix, and it needs a big-money guy to lead the charge. That role was played most recently by Brock Lesnar, who very well could have been ...
