Ryan Dilbert’s 10-Count: WWE Nailing Early Presentation of AJ Styles

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On January - 27 - 2016
1. Early Promise with AJ Styles Booking WWE has called all the right plays thus far in welcoming AJ Styles to the company. The Phenomenal One has looked like the big league star his fans knew him to be. Credit a vocal fanbase, the clout Styles created before he arrived and WWE's deft usage of him during the first steps of this journey onto the biggest stage in the industry. The former TNA star had plenty to worry about going in. WWE could have easily undervalued him, shoving him somewhere on the hierarchy between Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler. As Mick Foley pointed out on Facebook, "It ...

WWE WrestleMania 32: Early Booking Predictions for Massive PPV

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On January - 27 - 2016
WrestleMania 32 might be a couple of months away, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate about some of the matches on the card. Following this year's Royal Rumble pay-per-view, we have a pretty good idea of who will be heading into Mania with the major titles, and since we know the main event for Fastlane already, it's easy to guess who will be challenging for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. While it would be difficult to lay out the entire card this early, we can make some guesses about the bigger matches that will occupy the card in Dallas.   Bray Wyatt vs. ...

Roman Reigns’ WWE Fastlane 2016 Match Will Expose Star’s Lack of Momentum

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On January - 27 - 2016
Roman Reigns is earmarked to be the next "guy" in WWE; that much is apparent to anyone who has been watching WWE TV for a considerable amount of time. With John Cena out of the equation for the foreseeable future, now is the time for WWE to transition Reigns into the top babyface spot. His ascension wasn't without its roadblocks, starting with his controversial Royal Rumble win in 2015. Although he failed to capture the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at first, he worked his way back up the ladder over the course of the year, culminating in a well-received title win on the Dec. 14 edition ...
The Rock exploded through the curtain Monday night, an electricity only he can generate coursing through Miami's AmericanAirlines Arena. He hit the ring, began to cut a fiery promo and captivated an audience that had, to that point, been fairly quiet. From the interactions with fans donning costumes of their favorite wrestlers to the witty banter and physical confrontation with The New Day, Rock brought life to Monday Night Raw. Is it a good idea to tease fans with appearances from someone as dynamic as The Rock, though? Monday's appearance by The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment only served to expose the ...
WWE's Royal Rumble 2016 pay-per-view on Jan. 24 offered a fair few clues as to what the card at WrestleMania 32 will look like. Bray Wyatt vs. Brock Lesnar looks like a solid booking from here, as does Kevin Owens against either AJ Styles or Sami Zayn, probably the former. But one bout seemingly set up that may have escaped the attention of some concerns the Intercontinental Championship and its holder, Dean Ambrose. Ambrose was involved in arguably the match of the entire night at Royal Rumble, where he defeated Kevin Owens in a thrilling Last Man Standing bout to escape with the ...

Total Divas Is Greatest Enemy to Real WWE Divas Revolution

Posted by Erik Beaston On January - 27 - 2016
In 2013, World Wrestling Entertainment and E! Network unleashed Total Divas, a reality show based on the women of WWE and their lives outside the squared circle. What should have been a great tool for introducing new viewers to the world of sports entertainment, a platform for Divas to gain more mainstream exposure and the emphasis for a stronger push of female talent on Raw and SmackDown has, instead, become the greatest enemy to a real and truly great Divas Revolution in WWE. Somewhere along the line, WWE Creative got lazy (I know, you're shocked) and began using the reality program to ...

WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for January 28

Posted by Erik Beaston On January - 27 - 2016
Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose fell just short of capturing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble. Then they learned that they would compete in a Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match at Fastlane. During Tuesday's SmackDown tapings, the former Shield members stopped by "The Highlight Reel" with Chris Jericho. Would their discussion about Fastlane go smoothly or would a faction of Superstars interrupt the proceedings, setting up a huge main event tag match? If you have ever watched an episode of SmackDown, you know the answer to that one. On the heels of a big win over Chris Jericho on Raw, ...
The biggest WWE rumor floating around now involves who the company is reportedly considering pitting Brock Lesnar against at WrestleMania 32. It's the type of story that is hard to believe didn't start out as a joke. The Internet is buzzing about AJ Styles, too, especially after he debuted at the Royal Rumble. After weeks of rumors about whether he was actually WWE-bound, the backstage news now turns to details of the deal he inked with the company.  Other stories include an update on Shinsuke Nakamura heading to WWE and more on the internal reaction to the WWE Tough Enough winner's social media gaffe.    More Word ...
Brock Lesnar, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns are poised to lock down the Match of the Year race early. A great convergence of talent, an intriguing dynamic and numerous narrative routes for WWE to take have expectations high heading into that match. Even with its narrative flaws, Lesnar vs. Ambrose vs. Reigns has the makings of an instant classic. Reigns is back to chasing the championship after The Authority conspired to strip the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from his grip at the Royal Rumble. On Monday's Raw, Stephanie McMahon announced that whoever impressed the most that night would earn a spot in Fastlane's main ...

The Rock’s Return to WWE Raw Stirs Up Issues of Sexism

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On January - 26 - 2016
The Rock possesses such otherworldly charisma that it's easy to miss the repellent remnants of WWE's Attitude Era that still cling to his act. During his return to Raw on Monday night, The Great One reminded fans how magical a nonscripted promo can be and how wide of a gap in presence there is between him and the current roster. The Rock, though, also reminded the audience that WWE refuses to move away from sexist treatment of its female characters. Of all the barbs The Rock fired off on Raw, none were more uncomfortable, unnecessary and outdated than the ones aimed at Lana. On ...
