WWE may have been in contact more with Cody Rhodes than Ryback of late, despite the former no longer working for the company and the latter still being under contract. The latest round of WWE rumors offered an update on where both Superstars stand with Vince McMahon and Co. Rhodes left to venture into the independent scene but could be working out a deal concerning his likeness. As for The Big Guy, his stalemate with WWE officials continues. Ryback looks to be just waiting for his contract to expire so that he can follow Rhodes' lead and wrestle on smaller stages. Other rumors ...
Brock Lesnar is a box-office draw who commands an audience’s attention and elevates his opponent’s stature in WWE. Choosing his opponent for SummerSlam 2016, however, needs to be carefully thought out. While Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor are enticing names, a loss to Lesnar would be more damaging in their early WWE careers. And realistically, Lesnar’s not putting over rising talent when he returns, nor do fans want to see that happen. They want F-5s and Suplex City. Putting Lesnar against an established but lower-tier Superstar, as WWE did with Kofi Kingston at Beast in the East and Big Show at Live from ...

Seth Rollins Is Filling CM Punk’s Void in WWE

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On June - 28 - 2016
When Seth Rollins opened Monday's WWE Raw by pacing in the ring and telling fans, "To hell with it. Let's talk about Roman Reigns," it was hard not to think of CM Punk. Rollins' speech had a tinge of the breaking-the-fourth-wall element that Punk lived on. After WWE initially chose not to mention Roman Reigns' suspension, here was The Architect diving right into the topic. He infused reality into his promo, picking apart Reigns' apology on live TV. The fact that Rollins made his rant on the five-year anniversary of Punk's famous "pipebomb" promo only invited more comparisons. The parallels between Punk and Rollins, though, ...
Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn is the kind of rivalry that will never truly come to a close—not at WWE Battleground 2016, not anywhere. Despite Zayn's desire to "put an end to this once and for all," as he told Owens on Monday's Raw, the latest clash between these men won't provide closure. It is too compelling and too electric of a battle for WWE to ever put to rest. Expect a red-hot match at the Battleground pay-per-view followed by a long pause and breathing space for their bad blood. Owens and Zayn have been ripping at each other's flesh for years, a fact WWE has ...

WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After June 27 Show

Posted by Erik Beaston On June - 28 - 2016
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture nearly took a turn for the dramatic Monday night on Raw, as John Cena and AJ Styles both argued for their inclusions in the upcoming title bout at Battleground. Though both had the opportunity to earn themselves spots in the contest, neither man could put aside his issues with the other long enough to do so, and as a result, WWE is left with two high-profile feuds heading into its July 24 pay-per-view and a handful of burning questions emerging from this week's broadcast. Had Styles and Cena succeeded in their quests to insert themselves ...
This year's Battleground pay-per-view comes at a crucial time for WWE. It's not just its positioning between Money in the Bank and SummerSlam, two of the biggest shows on the calendar; it's also the fact that the event will air on July 24, just five days after the draft. This will be the first pay-per-view following the impending separation of Raw and SmackDown. For many fans, it will likely be a deciding factor in whether both shows can snag a spot in their weekly viewing schedules. WWE needs to establish that both brands are going to offer must-watch matches. To that end, we're ...

WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from June 27

Posted by Erik Beaston On June - 28 - 2016
WWE Creative's stubborn insistence that Roman Reigns is a lead babyface in 2016 helped earn it "biggest loser" status from Monday's Raw. The show kicked off with Seth Rollins poking fun at his former Shield teammate, only for world heavyweight champion Dean Ambrose to defend him by suggesting that he should be forgiven for manning up and taking responsibility for his actions. That will never happen. If anything, the hostility and dissatisfaction fans expressed in regard to Reigns' push will only intensify. The boos that greet him in arenas everywhere will be louder and more impassioned than they were before June 21. At some ...

WWE NXT: Full Preview, Match Card and More for June 29

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On June - 28 - 2016
Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for this week's episode of WWE NXT, where we'll take a spoiler-free look at what's in store for the developmental brand's upcoming episode. This is the last show from the recent block of episodes taped at Full Sail University, but we're still a long ways away from the next TakeOver special, so more shows will be taped in the coming weeks. This week's episode has a little bit of everything. When it comes to the women's division, two stars with bright futures will be in action when Carmella takes on Alexa Bliss. Carmella and Bliss could both reasonably ...
John Cena competed in a match against Seth Rollins on the June 27 edition of Monday Night Raw. If Cena won, he would have been added to the Triple Threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Battleground on July 24.  When he didn't win, many fans were likely shocked because Cena tends to win the big-money matches, and this one qualified as a high-profile match. But even though the temptation is there to put a world title back around Cena's waist, WWE must resist at all costs. It's too easy, and easy is not always the answer. Two years have passed since Cena ...
The suspension of Roman Reigns hung over the June 27 episode of Raw like a dark cloud, but WWE Creative more than made up for the disappointing development, delivering a compelling broadcast that shined a light on its top two programs and continued developing secondary stories that will be expected to fill out the upcoming Battleground card. John Cena and AJ Styles attempted to interject themselves into the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture on Monday night, but would they be able to put their differences with each other aside long enough to make their dreams a reality? Sasha Banks returned last week ...
