After Dean Ambrose retained the WWE Championship Sunday night at Battleground, the company didn't wait long to reveal its plans for Raw's top title. Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon and general manager Mick Foley announced Monday night that the WWE Universal Championship will be awarded at SummerSlam. WWE shared a replay of the reveal: Some on social media were underwhelmed by the name given to Raw's top belt, and SiriusXM host Sam Roberts didn't like the moniker at all: Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari questioned whether the name was even accurate: WWE, however, needed to establish a new title for its flagship show. SmackDown Live couldn't be the ...
One of professional wrestling's most talented stars made his debut on WWE's main roster on Monday when former NXT champion Finn Balor appeared on Raw. After a wild debut, Balor will face Seth Rollins for the brand-new WWE championship belt at SummerSlam next month. Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon and general manager Mick Foley originally placed Balor in a Fatal 4-Way match along with Rusev, Cesaro and Kevin Owens, with the winner to go on to a No. 1 contender's match for the newly created WWE Universal Championship: Balor prevailed after hitting Rusev with the Coup de Grace. WWE Universe shared a photo of the winning pinfall: Next up ...

WWE SummerSlam 2016: Full Card Predictions After Battleground

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On July - 25 - 2016
Blockbuster matches that fans have long seen coming will be key to the WWE SummerSlam 2016 card. The Battleground pay-per-view offered a number of peeks at what to expect at next month's massive event. John Cena evened the score with AJ Styles. Sasha Banks bent Charlotte in half.  Those results will inevitably lead to two SummerSlam bouts that will surprise no one. Cena vs. Styles looked worthy of the August PPV from the get-go. Banks vs. Charlotte was destined to happen on a stage this size. What of the rest of the Raw and SmackDown Superstars? What does WWE have in mind for Enzo Amore ...

WWE Raw: Live Results, Reaction and Analysis for July 25

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On July - 25 - 2016
Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of the July 25 episode of Raw. Battleground didn't feature any titles changing hands, but it was still an entertaining pay-per-view. Now WWE has to worry about building the card for SummerSlam on August 21. The only announced match at this point is Randy Orton vs. Brock Lesnar, so WWE has four weeks to fill up the rest of the four-hour event. Several NXT Superstars were called up to the main roster during last week's draft. With any luck, they will make their debuts during Monday's show. Will WWE introduce a second world title for Raw? Which NXT Superstars ...
From Sami Zayn's gutsy victory to Dean Ambrose's refusal to let his championship slip from his hands, WWE Battleground 2016 was most on fire when it was a showcase of the company's future building blocks. Sunday's pay-per-view gave Zayn a prime space in the spotlight. The Underdog from the Underground thrived there. Enraged, remorseful, focused, Zayn vanquished his archenemy Kevin Owens. WWE treated him as the rising star that he is, allowing him to stockpile momentum for the next stage of his journey. But the night wasn't filled with only deft moves like that one. Battleground provided its baffling moments, too. Twice, WWE stirred ...

WWE Battleground 2016: Feuds That Will Continue Through SummerSlam

Posted by James Moffat On July - 25 - 2016
With WWE Battleground 2016 in the rear-view mirror, it's time to look ahead to the next big date on the WWE calendar: SummerSlam. The Raw-SmackDown brand split has divided the main roster, which means some feuds contested at Battleground—Rusev vs. Zack Ryder and The Miz vs. Darren Young, for example—are completely wrapped up. The New Day vs. Bray Wyatt could be revisited, but the dissolution of The Wyatt Family thanks to the WWE Draft makes that unlikely.  Even though Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens delivered what's being considered a Match of the Year contender, WWE built their Battleground matchup as the feud's ...
The underdog, and the new face of SmackDown, prevailed at WWE Battleground 2016 when Dean Ambrose emerged from his clash with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins still clinging to the WWE Championship. The title picture set to surround Ambrose promises to be a frenzied, crowded one. One of SmackDown's key narratives will be the chase for the gold that he made sure at Battleground would stay with the blue brand.  The Lunatic Fringe no longer has to worry about his former brothers from The Shield. Raw drafted both Reigns and Rollins. That three-way battle is over for now. Instead, an old rival will resurface. Another ...

WWE Battleground 2016: Top Takeaways from Latest PPV Event

Posted by Kevin Berge On July - 25 - 2016
Sunday's WWE Battleground 2016 saw a showdown between new brands at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live saw three of their championships hang in the balance, and no one could be quite sure who and what brands would walk out with championship gold. This year's edition of the pay-per-view provided more than three title matches, though. It was the end of an era for WWE, signaling the final day before Raw and SmackDown officially became separate shows with separate brands, which made Battleground more important than ever before. The three former members of The Shield fought over ...

WWE Raw: Potential Spoilers, Rumors, News and Preview for July 25

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On July - 25 - 2016
A rebirth awaits WWE Raw. The brand split has the flagship show poised to be a different beast than fans are used to seeing. Thanks to last week's WWE draft, half of the roster will be competing exclusively for SmackDown instead. Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon promised to resurrect the cruiserweight division. General manager Mick Foley will certainly make his impact felt while running the red brand. McMahon and Foley drafted a number of big names, from Brock Lesnar to NXT's Finn Balor, but thanks to SmackDown star Dean Ambrose retaining at Battleground, Raw ended up without the WWE Championship. Does that mean United States champ Rusev ...

WWE Superstar Rankings Ahead of July 25 Raw

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On July - 25 - 2016
Following an entertaining WWE Battleground pay-per-view bolstered by a white-hot crowd, not to mention a game-changing WWE draft, the WWE rankings have changed a bit. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn stole the show with an excellent match on Sunday, while Roman Reigns lost in his first match back from his suspension. These unique circumstances call for new names to ascend the rankings, as The Shield feud comes to an end with Dean Ambrose moving to SmackDown and Seth Rollins and Reigns staying put on Raw. So, as WWE prepares for its first week in its newest brand-extension era, which WWE Superstars earned the ...
