Brock Lesnar Fined for Assault on Randy Orton at WWE SummerSlam 2016

Posted by Joseph Zucker On August - 23 - 2016
The WWE announced Tuesday that Raw commissioner Stephanie McMahon fined Brock Lesnar $500 for bloodying Randy Orton at SummerSlam. Lesnar won the match by technical knockout after brutalizing Orton with repetitive elbows to the skull. The company announced Monday that Orton required 10 staples to close a gash on his forehead. After the match, Lesnar delivered an F-5 to SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon, seemingly setting the stage for a Raw vs. SmackDown Live feud. The paltry fine only strengthened that likelihood. It was only a matter of time before WWE pitted the shows against each other. However, the timing doesn't make much ...

SummerSlam's drama didn't end when the cameras went off; a rumored backstage altercation between Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho nearly gave the pay-per-view a bonus match. Lesnar beat down Randy Orton to close out Sunday's PPV. In the aftermath of the bloody contest, the powerhouse and Jericho reportedly began to argue backstage.  The Beast Incarnate called out Jericho. Y2J apparently pressed his head against Lesnar's. The two men were seconds away from fighting. That beats the standard who-will-get-the-next-push rumor by a mile. Things got real with The Dudley Boyz, too. A backstage report offered clarification about just how legitimate the tag team's farewell speech ...

WWE SummerSlam 2016: Power Ranking Every Match from PPV

Posted by Erik Beaston On August - 23 - 2016
The 2016 incarnation of SummerSlam was a show devoted to some of the top rivalries and stories in professional wrestling, but it was one ultimately defined by quality that should have been higher and booking decisions that damned it to overall mediocrity. There were still outstanding matches, including one that served as the culmination of a rivalry and featured the most unexpected finish in recent memory. Then there were those matches that failed to make an impression, leaving fans to wonder why they were apart of the second-most significant show of the year. With 12 matches on the card, not including the Roman ...

WWE Raw: Burning Questions to Address After August 22 Show

Posted by Erik Beaston On August - 23 - 2016
The August 22 episode of Raw saw the relinquishing of a newly created championship, the arrival of NXT's most popular Superstar and the retirement of tag team royalty. For all of that, though, there were unanswered questions left for the WWE Universe. From the curious choice of Superstars who stepped into Universal Championship contention to the sudden and abrupt conclusion of one of Raw's marquee programs, there were decisions made throughout the course of Monday's show that generated buzz and discussion. What are they? Do they have any readily apparent answers? How might they affect WWE programming going forward?         ...
WWE Raw's power to emotionally resonate markedly increased the moment Bayley made her long-awaited debut. The former NXT women's champion is one of the best storytellers on the WWE roster and the cure for a division set to be hurt by absences. And few wrestlers connect to the audience like the happy-go-lucky babyface. If WWE backs her as it should, it has a potential megastar on its hands. With whispers about Sasha Banks' injury floating around, two-time women's champ Charlotte boasted about her SummerSlam victory in front of the Raw crowd on Monday night. She claimed that there was no one worthy of challenging her for ...
AJ Styles will storm into Tuesday's WWE SmackDown riding a freight train of momentum. He has plenty to gloat about after knocking off John Cena at SummerSlam. Is WWE world champ Dean Ambrose next on his list? Will Cena demand a third go-round with The Phenomenal One? WWE will answer those questions, as well as those regarding Bray Wyatt's intentions and the tag team division hierarchy, when SmackDown invades Uncasville, Connecticut. The first show after SummerSlam will look to build on the drama that unfolded on that pay-per-view. The Usos upset their allies, Randy Orton ran into a monster and Styles scored the biggest win ...
