WWE Hell in a Cell 2016 is in the books, and the WWE Universe felt its reverberations this past Monday on Raw. Goldberg was there. Charlotte was there. Sasha Banks was not. And it led many people to speculate whether Banks was legitimately injured. If she is injured for real, it wouldn't be surprising after the beating she took this past Sunday. If she is not, it reinforces Banks' status as one of the most talented workers in the business. Like her friend and rival, Bayley, Banks is a master of telling stories and selling injuries over extended periods of time. There ...
On the heels of Sasha Banks and Charlotte main-eventing Hell in a Cell, WWE minority owner Stephanie McMahon discussed the possibility of the company signing another transcendent female athlete in UFC star Ronda Rousey in a recent interview.  In an interview with TMZ Sports, McMahon said she is hopeful WWE will be able to reel in Rousey eventually. She also made reference to getting the former UFC Women's Bantamweight champion back for putting her in an armbar during a surprise appearance at WrestleMania 31 last year. When asked about engaging in contract talks, Vince McMahon's daughter said, "I'm certainly going to try." Rousey is a ...
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic offered extended looks at WWE NXT's motley crew of prospects. The second round of the tournament showcased a well-traveled veteran of the independent circuit, a rookie plucked from the MMA world and a big man who has been a part of the developmental system since before Leo Kruger became Adam Rose. With that mix of talent, it's no surprise how varied the performances from Wednesday's NXT were.  Roderick Strong shone in a surprise singles match. Rezar of The Authors of Pain showed more flashes of his potential but looked several steps away from deserving center stage.  And SAnity's Sawyer Fulton was ...

WWE Raw vs. SmackDown: Analyzing Who Won the Week of October 31

Posted by Erik Beaston On November - 3 - 2016
The march toward Survivor Series began this week, as both WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown were geared toward building teams for brand warfare on Nov. 20. Superstars such as Chris Jericho, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose dominated headlines, but which brand was able to claim victory ahead of the intensely significant war of attrition at the annual fall spectacular? Let's take a look.               Match Quality SmackDown's sole contribution to the argument this week was a match between Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles, which was its typically strong self, but the quality was ...

Undertaker’s Best Booking Options for Return at WWE SmackDown Live

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 3 - 2016
The biggest decision regarding Undertaker's return to WWE SmackDown is whether to have The Deadman aim his focus on the past or the future. The ominous, supernatural titan is set to make his first WWE appearance since WrestleMania 32. His trip to the blue brand is a powerful implement in WWE's toolbox. It could greatly bolster a rising faction or set the stage for a dream match. Either way, on the 900th episode of SmackDown on Nov. 15 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Undertaker is coming.  The Mohegan Sun Arena tweeted that Undertaker will appear on the final SmackDown before the Survivor Series pay-per-view: Just having the ...

Analyzing the Original WWE Women’s Revolution in the Attitude Era

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On November - 3 - 2016
The women's revolution in WWE has seen the division improve tenfold, and most of the credit has been given to The Four Horsewomen—Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley. This is not to say women such as Paige, Naomi, Natalya, Nikki and Brie Bella and everyone else haven't worked hard, but when the four women ruling the division right now were in NXT, they were turning more heads than the main roster. It has been great to see such a vast improvement to this part of the product, but this isn't the first time females have been on the same level as ...
The Nov. 2 episode of WWE NXT brought with it the latest round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, with plenty of controversy to go around. An injury sidelined Austin Aries, leaving partner Roderick Strong to represent his team by himself. The Revival's Scott Dawson was also "injured," cancelling the NXT tag team champions' second-round match with Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. The only thing cancelled in the match between Rich Swann, No Way Jose and The Authors of Pain was the babyfaces' opportunity at emerging from the tournament victorious. Then there was Kota Ibushi and former cruiserweight champion T.J. Perkins, whose ...

WWE SmackDown: Burning Questions to Address After November 1 Show

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 2 - 2016
The road WWE SmackDown is taking to Survivor Series and beyond is foggy. It's hard to know what's ahead for Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler and others. Bryan, SmackDown's general manager, further stirred things up with The Miz on Tuesday's show. Those two are clearly on a collision course, but just what will that look like? What kind of climax can this narrative have? As for Ziggler, he called out the Raw roster on the Nov. 1 SmackDown. Suddenly, a whole host of Superstars could be in line for a shot at the Intercontinental Championship. Questions also emerged in regard to the blue brand's supporting cast. What ...

Undertaker to Make WWE Return at SmackDown’s 900th Episode

Posted by Joseph Zucker On November - 2 - 2016
The Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, announced Wednesday that The Undertaker will return for the Nov. 15 edition of SmackDown Live. The Undertaker's appearance on SmackDown's 900th episode is unlikely to involve any action inside the ring, however. On Oct. 18, Dave Scherer of PWInsider.com reported the former world champion had recently undergone hip surgery. The Deadman has wrestled only sparingly on WWE programming in recent years, and his last non-pay-per-view bout was a win over Dean Ambrose on SmackDown in April 2013.Perhaps not coincidentally, the Undertaker's SmackDown Live return will come five days before Survivor Series, which doesn't leave a ...

AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose: Best Ways to Build WWE TLC 2016 Feud

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 2 - 2016
Adjustments need to be made and dials need to be turned as AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose transitions to WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2016. The latest chapter in the WWE World Championship rivalry is over. It's time for these enemies to move from the joyfully absurd to the powerfully intense. Ambrose's chase for Styles' gold will continue to at least the TLC pay-per-view on Dec. 4. SmackDown's head honchos Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan announced the title bout on Tuesday night:  The Lunatic Fringe earned one more crack at the championship by beating Styles on Tuesday's SmackDown. His little buddy and lovable loser James Ellsworth nearly cost ...
