More Original Programming Is Key to WWE Network Gaining New Subscribers

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On November - 24 - 2016
The WWE Network is a wonderful service for wrestling fans, especially those who didn't like paying $50 or more for pay-per-views, but it isn't quite as successful as management would like it to be. According to a recent WWE conference call (h/t Nick Hausman of WrestleZone), the current subscriber count at the end of WWE's third quarter is 1.458 million, which is slightly below where WWE predicted it would be by now and down from where it was at the end of the second quarter. Having every PPV for the price of $9.99 per month is a value no customer can deny, ...

And judging by the speculation that has emerged online this week, it is clear plans for that show are beginning to be put together. This week's rumor roundup features news of a major surprise for one top WWE star in terms of the opponent they may be facing at WrestleMania next year. It also covers news of a shock heel turn in the women's division, as well as another big name set to enter the 2017 ...

WWE TLC 2016: Power Ranking the Best Cards in PPV’s History

Posted by Kevin Berge On November - 24 - 2016
WWE introduced many new pay-per-views in 2009, particularly driven by gimmicks. While many fell short of expectations, TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs has been a success story for WWE since its inception. A high-octane finish to each year, on this one night, WWE promises tables, ladders and chairs in spades. Over the years, this has been a night when WWE shows its hand for WrestleMania season, ending feuds in impressive fashion while crowning certain stars for future success. Equally, the night has allowed some stars, particularly those willing to take risks, to steal the show and become major factors on the road ...
It was obvious from the moment it debuted that Sanity would be a dangerous force in NXT, and Wednesday night, it proved why, pummeling Rich Swann and No Way Jose while simultaneously sending a message to the locker room. Eric Young and his minions were not the only Superstars to announce to the viewers on WWE Network that they will play key roles in the future of the show. Ember Moon picked up another impressive victory, teaming with Liv Morgan and Aliyah to defeat NXT's resident mean girls, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay and partner Daria Berenato. With TakeOver: Toronto in the rearview mirror, ...

WWE SmackDown: Burning Questions to Address After Nov. 22 Show

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 23 - 2016
The first WWE SmackDown after Sunday's Survivor Series pay-per-view filled out the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs card in a hurry.  By the end of the night, a handful of grudge matches were set, as was Alexa Bliss' rematch against Becky Lynch. But as much as we know about the Dec. 4 PPV, there is still plenty left unclear. Where does the newly signed James Ellsworth fit into the mix? Are Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton poised to push aside American Alpha to become the top contenders to the SmackDown Tag Team Championships? Is Undertaker going to be around for the show at all?  Tuesday's SmackDown ...
What do you do when the Cinderella story reaches its climax? What does WWE do with James Ellsworth now that he's a full-fledged member of the SmackDown roster? Creativity will be key to answering those questions and scripting the next chapter of Ellsworth's unlikely underdog tale. The man who began as Braun Strowman's punching bag has officially arrived on the blue brand as more than a guest. On Tuesday's SmackDown, commissioner Shane McMahon offered the man with the minimalist chin a contract. Ellsworth ended up putting it on the line in a ladder match against AJ Styles. The lovable loser and insult magnet managed yet ...

WWE Survivor Series 2016: Most Memorable Moments from Event

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On November - 23 - 2016
On Nov. 20, WWE presented the 30th installment of its long-celebrated Survivor Series pay-per-view. If it was aiming to deliver an event that will be talked about for years to come, it was successful in doing just that. The top-billed bout between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg was what had fans talking coming out of Survivor Series. The show's decisive conclusion saw Goldberg squash Lesnar in a matter of minutes, making it one of the most lopsided main event matches of all time in WWE. In addition to that, Raw and SmackDown Live were at odds throughout the night, battling for bragging rights. ...
1. SmackDown's Ailing Squads  On paper, six teams fought on Tuesday's WWE SmackDown to earn the No. 1 contenders' spot and secure a title match against Heath Slater and Rhyno. In reality, it was a two-horse race with four cardboard stallions on the track for looks. The match might as well have skipped to the end where American Alpha clashed with The Usos. There was no reason to believe in The Ascension, The Hype Bros, The Vaudevillains or Breezango. In terms of momentum, those teams range from barely breathing to comatose.   SmackDown's tag team division is uneven and predictable right now. It is so lacking ...
SmackDown Live set its sights on its TLC pay-per-view on Tuesday night, assembling a card chock-full of matches involving tables, ladders and chairs. In the process, it allowed some of its top Superstars to pick up momentum as the Dec. 4 PPV approaches. One such Superstar was the biggest winner of the night, his humor meshing well with the tone of his character to create the most hilarious moment of this week's broadcast. Another Superstar was not quite as lucky. After winding up on a Survivor Series card she was not originally supposed to be on, she was once again reminded of ...

WWE Survivor Series 2016 Results That Will Have Biggest Impacts at TLC

Posted by Aaron Bower On November - 23 - 2016
A night of controversy, drama and entertainment at WWE Survivor Series 2016 offered fans of SmackDown an intriguing glimpse into what lies ahead for the brand at its next pay-per-view—TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. Although the brand's big prize wasn't on the line, some clever booking from WWE allowed fans an opportunity to see the next chapter of Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles begin to take shape. But the night's other matches involving SmackDown stars also set things up for TLC to be a show to remember as 2016 comes to a close. Here are the results from Survivor Series that will have ...
