Pro Wrestling History: Five Classic Rivalries Every Fan Should Know
On April - 14 - 2011
I recently posted a relatively well received ranking of wrestling's top 25 rivalries of all-time. Of course, any ranking is always open to criticism and suggestion, but I noticed two things about the reader comments. The first thing that struck me was that there was a tendency among a few of those commenting to confuse an attempt at objective analysis with an assessment of personal favorites. The second thing I noticed was a bias towards the modern era and the way in which certain feuds managed to stick in the minds of readers, when other more notable and far more historically important ...
WWE Name Change: Why Is Vince McMahon Making the Change Now?
On April - 7 - 2011
WWE has made the official announcement that World Wrestling Entertainment is no more. Well, at least in terms of the company name. It is now simply WWE.
Ultimately, this is not only a wise move, but also the timing could not be better.
To many of us, this shift is no big deal. Since the core product is the same, there’s no concern that all of a sudden we’ll end up with no ring and no athletes. But to others, it’s a slap in the face of tradition.
Let's be real about something though: Tradition has done little for growth. For ...
WWE WrestleMania 28: Rock vs. John Cena Announcement a Year Ahead Was Brilliant
On April - 7 - 2011
Not 24 hours removed from WrestleMania 27, announcing the likely WrestleMania 28 main event of the Rock vs. John Cena has caused quite a stir and is drawing some serious venom from many fans online. This admittedly bold move by WWE’s top brass is actually a brilliant stroke and for the life of me I cannot fathom why this would not register as anything but positive for all fans: casual, die-hard, returning or long-time. I've heard all of the criticism, and frankly it all falls pretty flat. Yes, there could be an injury. But injuries can happen at any time. ...
WWE Wrestlemania: Sting Speaks and Proves Insecure in WrestleMania Refusal
On April - 1 - 2011
Finally, Steve Borden managed to speak on the two or three weeks of rumor that Sting was headed to WWE. In an interview with Patrick Lennon for the Daily Star (UK), Borden made things seem pretty cut and dry regarding an offer and the dream match with the Undertaker. Here is the exchange: “I wouldn’t say it was utter nonsense, that’s not true! It’s a dream match that fans would want to see. It was close. I’m glad things turned out the way they did. “There are so many variables. Let’s just say that I turned ...

WrestleMania 27: Why WWE Doesn’t Owe WCW Anything in Atlanta
On March - 14 - 2011
Since WWE selected Atlanta as host for WrestleMania 27, some rather vocal fans have been expecting some WCW love to come their way. It started with talk that WWE should have a WCW theme for the Hall of Fame. Then it was talk of WCW names from the past showing up for a big last match or memorable appearance. The Goldberg rumors last year can trace their origins here. With the Sting rumors at their peak about five weeks ago, another WCW connection was almost taken for granted. Now we see the HoF class for 2011 taking shape and ...
Devil’s Advocate: Five Common TNA Criticisms from WWE Fans That Should Stop
On February - 26 - 2011
I'm not a TNA fan and doubt I will be anytime soon, but that does not mean that I feel TNA should be on the receiving end of hypocritical and unwarranted bashing at every turn.Unfortunately, when wrestling brand loyalists collide, the result is usually a series of poorly thought-out debates. What normally highlights these exchanges is a selective memory along with a blind support for WWE, TNA, ROH, or whatever. There's nothing wrong with brand loyalty, but there IS something wrong with hypocrisy, short-sightedness, and utter unfairness. One must be cautious in debate not to fall into these traps, and that means ...
TNA: Insular and Smug, IMPACT Proves Petty in Imaginary WWE Feud
On February - 25 - 2011
Greetings everyone. I'm new here at Bleacher Report and this is my debut article. I have been a wrestling fan since 1984 and never once strayed. After sitting on the sidelines of the IWC since its inception, I just can't hold back any longer. I believe there is a certain perspective and rational discourse missing from a majority of wrestling talk and hope I can add a little balance and a fresh style.
I am not a TNA fan. It is not that I want to dislike it or only find myself loyal to the big-time brand of WWE, but I ...
