WWE Best of Best, Part 1 of 8: The 10 Greatest Brawlers

Posted by Dan Power On September - 3 - 2010

It is too hard to get a consensus on who is the best wrestler in WWE history (from 1982, when it became WWF). So I decided to create seven slideshows featuring six different styles and one with the women; then, to conclude the series, I will try to determine the "Top 10 Biggest WWE Stars".The following wrestlers may have some other abilities, but they are specialized in street fights, using their fists as primary weapons. ...

What a Disaster! Seven Solutions to Turn WWE Around

Posted by Jeff Awesome On September - 2 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
It is no secret that the quality of WWE programming has sunk significantly.  In particular, WWE’s flagship show Raw has regressed since the days of the Attitude Era and even the Ruthless Aggression Era. It always seems so stale and predictable: John Cena defying the odds to win, Randy Orton hitting the RKO (which is an awesome move), and other examples that are truly lowering the quality of the product. But to WWE's defense, they have lost a ton of major performers over the past few years. Legends such as HBK and Kurt Angle; main-eventers such as Batista, Jeff Hardy, and potentially ...
This weekend Pro Wrestling Guerrilla will present their sixth annual "Battle of Los Angeles" tournament. The tournament has become one of the most anticipated events of the year for the popular California independent promotion and it always features some of the biggest and best names on the indy wrestling scene. Looking back at the brackets of previous years of this tourney reveals a who's who of names like AJ Styles, Bryan Danielson, Nigel McGuinness (Desmond Wolfe), Matt Sydal (Evan Bourne), Doug Williams, Kazarian, Tyler Black, and Chris Sabin. These guys are currently some of the hottest young stars in WWE and TNA. Past ...

A Year To Remember: Wrestling Landscape In 1986

Posted by FRANK On September - 1 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
By 1986, promoters like Vince McMahon, Jim Crockett Jr., Bill Watts, Fritz Von Erich, and Verne Gagne were looking to expand their product and fan base. It was nice to hold house shows in nearby arenas and clubs. It was nice to tour Europe and Japan. It was nice to promote supercards like Superclash, WrestleMania, and Starrcade. It did promote and gather a fan base. But, the fan base was limited. There was only one way to expand the fan base and exposure: television.  Television helped to make baseball, football, basketball, and boxing multi-billion dollar industries.  Television made stars of the athletes who played those sports. Television opened ...
Earlier in the week, Internet reports surfaced indicating WWE's plan to unify all titles between now and WrestleMania XXVII in Atlanta next April. The idea is probably a long time coming, since a couple of the titles (namely, the United States Championship) have become largely irrelevant. The tag team titles have been unified for a long time now, but the introduction of new championship belts solidified the unification. At Night of Champions, the Divas and Women's championships will be unified when Melina takes on either Layla or Michelle McCool. But how will the other two titles be unified? Only time will tell us exactly how ...

Two TNA’s: A Love/Hate Relationship in The Hogan-Bischoff Era

I will just come out and admit it, though I may subject myself to being drawn and quartered.  The first full episode of Impact I watched was Jan. 4, 2010.  I watched because I read that Hulk Hogan was returning to wrestling.  I don't even know why.  His matches had not been any fun to watch since Goldberg squashed him for the WCW Title.  Further, his personal life clearly did not involve many prayers and vitamins (unless we count PEDs).  My best guess is nostalgia.  Thirty is not old by any stretch of the imagination, but it is one of life's milestones.  It creates ...

Smackdown! Superstar Injured: Out at Least Six Months

Posted by Patrick J On September - 1 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
Yes, the Straight Edge Society is officially over. With Serena's release last week, I wondered how the trio would continue on. I guess we will never find out. Joey Mercury will be undergoing surgery for a torn pectoral muscle this weekend. I'm sure you all noticed his arm being wrapped up lately. The injury, which kept John Cena out of action for around four months, has a six-month recovery process. Seems like Creative strikes again, because they have seemed to have ended the group entirely. Now, I'm not going to spoil it, but be sure to tune into Smackdown! this Friday. Anyone else think Punk's ...
As a fanatical WWE fan, I was inspired to write about the 1,000th episode of Raw the day after I saw the utter disaster that was the 900th episode. Initially, I was upset that I wasn't able to catch the 6 PM show out on the West coast. But I realized it was for the better: it absolutely SUCKED!  The only good part of the show was the Undertaker/Kane segment with Bret Hart and Nexus. But they were the only active big-name performers still there during the Attitude Era.  On the other hand, the 1,000th episode will have everything the 900th one did ...

It’s Official: John Cena Is an Evil Man

Posted by Jesus Rocha On September - 1 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
These days, true wrestling fans hate John Cena. Many people hate how he is always in the main event and has more title wins than The Rock and Stone Cold. Prowrestling.net posted an interview with Vince McMahon by The Boston Herald. Here is the interview: WWE chairman Vince McMahon praised John Cena in a Boston Herald feature on the latter performer's career. "You have to start with the quality of the human being,” McMahon said. "John is an extraordinary human being; he’s honest, he’s loyal. "He’s full of himself, too,” McMahon added with a laugh. "But he’s like a throwback to the type ...
Due to the surprising success of my Ranking Every WWE Champion In The 21st Century article, I thought I might try to follow that up with another article that ranks Heavyweight Champions. The only difference is, instead of just focusing on WWE Champions in the 21st Century, I will showcase every champion to hold a Heavyweight Title for the WWE. I started to work on this piece last week, and it is quite long and packed with WWE history. As we all know, the highest honor any performer in the WWE can ever achieve, is being given the title World ...
In what may come to a shock to some fans of the Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Corgan is a huge pro wrestling fan. He recently did a spot with AAA. During his promo, he was interrupted by Hernandez and Alex Kozlov. Of course, this was a work, but it just goes to show you that even some stars love rasslin. He did an interview and discussed a variety of subjects. He talked about the angle with Hernandez and Kozlov. He also surprised me at just how knowledgeable of a fan he was. He talked about his days growing up in Chicago, his favorite ...
