WWE’s TV PG Era: Is It Really That Bad?

Posted by Gabe Mambo On July - 31 - 2010

Professional Wrestling has seen better days. In the days of my youth, the WWE was going through the Attitude Era, the pinnacle of the Monday Night Wars. Thanks to controversial segments, smashmouth wrestling, and TV-14 at its best, the WWE beat out WCW as the top promotion, eventually buying their rival in 2001. In this day and age, the story is different. TV-14 has turned into PG. Many wrestling fans in the Internet wrestling community call this era the "PG ...

Last night on NXT, we saw three rookies eliminated. Michael Tarver and Daniel Bryan were both taken off the show by WWE management, who were apparently not too happy with their lack of faith in themselves on the previous show. Both said they should be the first rookie eliminated, and both were removed from NXT this week. Skip Sheffield was also eliminated, by placing last in the pros poll. The big story coming out of all of this is the backstage interview with Bryan, where he wrote off the Daniel Bryan name, and referred to himself as Bryan Danielson for the very first ...

The Top Five Wrestlers To Come From The AWA

Posted by Travis Smith On May - 12 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
I recently did a slide show on the top five wrestlers to never be a world champion in WWE, WCW, ECW, or TNA. I mentioned in some of my comments that I did not believe that the AWA was as big as some of the other companies were in pro wrestling, boy was I wrong. I recently did some research on the AWA and discovered that the AWA was very popular at one point by having solid talent there and having a timeslot on ESPN each week. The AWA was created by Verne Gagne in 1960 and it was a ...

Motor City Machine Guns vs. Ink Inc.

It didn’t matter which day it was, it was just another day making up a small, insignificant part of the endless Summer Australians are now used to. For official records, it was Saturday. The predicted extreme temperature by mid-afternoon brings the city to a sweltering halt. Traffic slows as the gridlock thickens, the pace begins to stall to almost a crawl almost as quickly as the mercury ascends, really, past an unacceptable level. As the city braces itself for another sleepless night, the only relief for many comes from the lingering clouds above. Yet, it doesn’t rain. It never does. Be the following ...

Smackdown: Where Midcarders are the Main Event!

Posted by Jamie Harding On May - 11 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
After some very interesting responses to my recent articles, I seem to have caught a bug for writing articles about the WWE Draft and its repercussions and thought I would consider the Smackdown landscape in general. Smackdown was drained of much star power in the Draft, in the loss of Chris Jericho, Edge, and some would say with John Morrison as well. This has left Smackdown with nofull-time superstar who is an out an out main eventer, so this article considers those superstars who could be given the responsibility of headlining Smackdown over the next twelve months. Before I continue I ...

Is Pro Wrestling Finally Listening To Its Fans?

Posted by John Betschel On May - 11 - 20101 COMMENT
When it comes to professional wrestling, the Internet wrestling community has a lot to say. We write to express our opinions, let fans know about breaking news, as well as other other things, hoping that just maybe, someone higher up in the business will read our articles, and listen to what we have to say. After some of the things that have been happening lately, could that wish have finally come true? For months now, people have been talking about two things: How big of a mistake it was for TNA moving to Mondays to try and compete with the WWE, and the ...

Will TNA Turn the Corner?

Posted by Adam Kopp On May - 11 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
The more articles that I read in various places throughout the internet in regards to TNA and the Hogan/Bischoff regime, from the lowliest of fans (i.e. me) up to the true insiders, bloggers, and opinion-makers, the more I see a trend developing that almost smells like solidarity. The consensus?  You don't have to even read the next sentence to know what's coming:  The Hogan/Bischoff regime simply isn't working.  I've read articles detailing their failures in everything from set changes and "new" additions to the roster, to TV time slots and plotlines.  The amazing part to me, however, is the fact that so many people are ...

Chris Jericho and The Miz: Preparing For Awesomeness

Posted by Mike Salvatore On May - 11 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
Yes! A thousand times yes! The IWC likes to treat the WWE creative staff like a piñata, and most of the time, that treatment is warranted. However, it appears that the WWE may very well hit a home run with the recent pairing of the Miz and Chris Jericho. Pairing two of the best talkers in all of the WWE has gold written all over it. I know there is a sentiment in the IWC towards tag teams that are just thrown together for the sake of a storyline, but the team of Jericho and the Miz could reap huge rewards across the board ...
The two hottest names in the WWE, and possibly pro wrestling today, are Randy Orton and Edge. Two people who many considered tweeners before the WWE Draft. Simply because both were liked by the WWE Universe, but still had marks boo them. Orton probably had the largest amount of cheers for a heel I've seen since The Rock. While you could relate Edge to that of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, who had the ability to make you want to hate him, yet you just couldn't because he was so cool to watch. The two of them are in the prime of their careers, ...

Gregory Helms Heading to TNA

Posted by Jason Taylor On May - 11 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Gregory Helms will join TNA Wrestling once his 90-day no-compete clause with World Wrestling Entertainment expires in late May. Helms joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 2001, and was a former WWF European and Hardcore Champion. Helms was also a two-time WWF Cruiserweight Champion and a two-time co-holder of the WWE World Tag Team Championship. The 35-year-old Helms was released by WWE on February 26, 2010. He has already made a verbal deal with TNA through Jeff Hardy, and will likely be performing under his WCW ring name, Shane Helms. There is also talk of TNA starting a faction with Hardy, Helms, Shannon ...
