WWE’s TV PG Era: Is It Really That Bad?

Posted by Gabe Mambo On July - 31 - 2010

Professional Wrestling has seen better days. In the days of my youth, the WWE was going through the Attitude Era, the pinnacle of the Monday Night Wars. Thanks to controversial segments, smashmouth wrestling, and TV-14 at its best, the WWE beat out WCW as the top promotion, eventually buying their rival in 2001. In this day and age, the story is different. TV-14 has turned into PG. Many wrestling fans in the Internet wrestling community call this era the "PG ...

Breaking News: Permanent RAW GM Appointed, Then Resigns

Posted by Lionheart Nicolo On May - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
Finally, after almost a year of welcoming Hollywood and pop culture icons into the squared circle (most of 'em not even wrestling fans) week in and week out, a new and permanent WWE RAW General Manager was announced. Get ready and brace yourselves for we will, once again, be bewildered by this fabled catchphrase ("Excuse me!") You guessed it right, Vickie Guerrero was appointed as new permanent RAW GM just moments ago live on USA.  But all these may never happen becuase just recently, the "cougar" herself frantically resigned from her post as GM. Seems that our "Permanent" GM was not permanent ...
With my article on Edge getting a very mixed reaction in the poll and some very interesting comments, I thought I'd comment on another aspect of the WWE Draft: the future of Cody Rhodes. Cody, the son of Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, has been with the WWE a while, most notably as part of Legacy with Randy Orton and Ted Dibiase, but is now striking out on his own on Smackdown. (Although Legacy still appears as part of his titantron?) He has already shown some entertaining wrestling skills on Smackdown and I believe him to be reasonable on the mic. He ...

Will Thursday Nights Recapture the Spark in TNA?

Posted by Daniel Peragine On May - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
It was on Jan.4, 2010 when TNA scored its highest rating ever, drawing in 2.2 million viewers and scoring a 1.5.  WWE RAW countered with over five million viewers and posting a 3.7. With the ratings success in its first test run, TNA threw its hat in the ring and the so called “Monday Night Wars” seemed to be restarted. Off we go to March 8, where TNA Impact! began on a high note.  The company threw everything against the wall, as fans got to witness Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair return to the ...
With recent reports reporting Tara's departure from TNA, I felt I should harp the current state of the Knockout's Division.  I would also like to say good luck to her in her future endeavors. To be honest with you all, I'm amazed, shocked and puzzled over TNA's inability and refusal to give Tara a raise.  Let us all remember that this isn't the first time TNA made this mistake, (anyone seen Gail Kim?). I was sure that it wouldn't hurt TNA to give her what she deserves. But once again, I was wrong.   I mean, after ...

The End of Wrestling’s Pet Era May Be Upon Us

Posted by Slam Houston On May - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
The end of an era may be upon us. Pets and mascots were phased into wrestling many years ago. Jake Roberts introduced us to Damien, his Burmese Python he carried in a large canvas bag and let loose onto fallen victims. Koko B. Ware perched his beloved macaw, Frankie, at ringside. The British Bulldogs walked around with a real bulldog named Matilda. Al Snow had a pet Chihuahua named Pepper. Mankind and Black Reign each had pet rats. Legacy had Cody Rhodes. Now, the lone remaining representative from the pet/mascot category is Poison, a tarantula spider owned by Tara in TNA. Tara, along with ...
Hulk Hogan : “If we're (TNA ) going to war, we are going to win that. To me it's not a competition any more; this company has a better product. This company has better talent. This company produces the matches and everything that I've seen here in being around for almost a couple of months now, this company is better at everything they do. "We're just going to show we're the better company with the better product. We're not going to repeat history; we're going to make history.” So said Hogan, as he and TNA President Dixie Carter announced ...

Mum’s The Word: CEO Confirms Four Matches For May-Hem

Posted by Brandon Hamblen On May - 10 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
After pursuing Ultimate Wrestling CEO Alexander Hearse III for the better part of the weekend, I was finally able to catch up with him. He has confirmed four matches for May-Hem this Saturday, May 15, at the Santa Rosa County Auditorium in Milton, Fla. He refused to release the full card and gave me this official statement, “Ultimate Wrestling does not release their cards in its entirety, however we are confident those in attendance will be quite pleased with the show.” Given the four confirmed matches, I understand the CEO's confidence. BTY Colby Godwin will wrestle The Story of the Year Brian Caige in a ...
At last night's "Supercard of Honor V," Ring of Honor world champion Tyler Black successfully defended his championship against Roderick Strong in front of a packed house at the Grand Ballroom inside New York City's famed Manhattan Center. Black chalked up another successful defense, despite much controversy during the match. Three separate referees were needed at various points in the match due to refs being injured. Many fans felt that Strong would have come away with the championship if not for those referee issues. Regardless, Black is still the ROH Champion, continuing his reign that began in February at the Ring Of ...
"What would Wrestlemania be without Shawn Michaels? That's the bottom line!" As a fan of Shawn Michaels, I consider this call, from before The Undertaker's first win in "The Streak," to be one of the greatest calls in the history of professional wrestling. I would safely say that it could be made "off the record." After all, what would Wrestlemania be without Mr. Wrestlemania? Michaels and Marty Jannetty made their first Mania appearance at the same event that saw The Mega Powers explode in a not-too-shabby debut against the Twin Towers. Their next two tag matches in Wrestlemania, against the Orient Express and the ...

Edge On Raw: Will It Really Reach The Level It Should?

Posted by Jamie Harding On May - 9 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
So its been a couple of weeks since the WWE draft and some new directions are beginning to develop. I may write a future article on other aspects of the Draft's implications but there is one point that is slightly concerning me and I wanted to ask you guys what you think. Whether Teddy Long likes to admit it or not Raw is absolutely stacked with Cena, Batista, HHH, Edge, Jericho and Sheamus headlining and some interesting possibilities with the likes of The Miz, John Morrison and Ted Dibiase in the upper midcard. Although there is much discussion of retirements and ...
