For many years, King of the Ring has been considered the fifth major Pay-Per-View behind the Royal Rumble, Summerslam, Survivor Series, and the granddaddy of them all - Wrestlemania. However, in 2003, King of the Ring was replaced by Bad Blood. Unfortunately, Bad Blood never struck a chord with the WWE Universe and was replaced by the Bash (which has since been retired as well). King of the Ring made its return to PPV briefly in 2006 as well on an episode of RAW back in 2008.
Winning King of the Ring is considering to be a launching pad to a successful push in the WWE before the arrival of Money in the Bank Ladder Match at Wrestlemania back in 2005 (which in turn was spun off to its very own Pay-Per-View this year).
