WWE News: Does John Cena On Raw Still Work?

Posted by Adam Wells On April - 22 - 2011

Would John Cena Benefit From A Change Of Scenery?

With the WWE draft taking place this Monday and teases of John Cena possibly going to Smackdown, it made me wonder if Cena can still be effective on Raw.

Cena is by far the biggest star that WWE has. Whether you like him or not, no one elicits a reaction like he does. But there has been a glaring hole in his game for most of the last three years or so. He doesn’t seem to take anything seriously.

When I first heard the teases of Cena going to Smackdown, I immediately thought that would be a smart move. Perhaps a fresh start on a new show would be just the thing that he needs to recharge his batteries. The writing could get better and, for the first time in a long time, Cena could be a big deal again.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that Smackdown isn’t the right move. The only thing that is going to make Cena a compelling character to watch again is Cena.

He is in a position that no one else is in – with the possible exception of Randy Orton. He can voice his opinion. He can tell the writers when an idea is dumb or not going to work. It seems like he is afraid to do it, or reluctant. Whatever the problem has been, Cena hasn’t tried to fix it.

There is no need for WWE to move Cena to Smackdown in order to try and get rid of the “Boo’s” that he hears on a weekly basis. If they want Cena to be cheered by everyone, make him a likable character. Don’t make a move for the sake of making a move.

Cena has the charisma to be cheered. He just needs the right material to help him do it.
