The Good, the Great and the Awesome from SmackDown 2/28/14

Posted by Erik Beaston On February - 28 - 2014
The first SmackDown on the road to WrestleMania hit the airwaves from Milwaukee and featured the return of Batista to the brand he helped lead throughout the second half of the 2000s. The Animal had a lot to get off his chest Friday night in regard to the fans and the industry he loves so much. What did he have to say, and who, if anyone, took exception to his rant? After scoring a win over Kane on Monday night, Daniel Bryan rode a wave of momentum into this week's show. He would once again be faced with squaring off against the ...

Posted by David Bixenspan On February - 28 - 2014
WWE Network launched this week, and at this point, almost all of the technical glitches have been fixed.  With that in mind, the next step is to figure out what can be added or changed in the big picture. New shows? Features that aren't available yet? More on-demand content? Let's take a look at some of the changes that could and, realistically, should be in store in the future.Begin Slideshow

Posted by Erik Beaston On February - 28 - 2014
WrestleMania has been home to some of the greatest matches in the history of sports entertainment. Great performers such as Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and The Rock have captivated audiences in displays of athleticism unmatched in any other art form.  For every great match, however, there is an equally great moment. Those moments evoke emotion from wrestling fans all over the globe and, as a result, become reminders of the effect a great story can have on the business. Sometimes the fans express themselves with cheers, others with jeers. When done right, those moments can even ...

WWE’s Top Tweets, Instagram Photos and Viral Videos for Week of Feb. 24

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On February - 28 - 2014
Jabs at the WWE Network, big returns and a locker room full of champions generated the most enticing WWE-related social media in the last week of February.  On Instagram, LeBron James showed off the WWE titles he offered his teammates. Zeb Colter ruled Twitter, serving up the best jokes about the recently-launched network. Cesaro owned YouTube as the star of a video highlighting one of his most powerful moves. In other WWE-centric social media, Undertaker and Hulk Hogan's returns attracted attention, an artist conceptualized the Hall of Fame and Alberto Del Rio and Bray Wyatt made an oddly appealing pairing. We begin there ...

Examining Aiden English’s Strengths, Weaknesses and Long-Term Potential

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On February - 28 - 2014
His peers emit roars and promises before battle, but Aiden English, NXT's resident thespian, songbird and artiste, begins each bout with a song. English has all the charisma and stage presence one needs to succeed in WWE. His stock of physical gifts are less plentiful, though, limiting his options once he reaches the main roster. So many of WWE's warriors and monsters preceded their wrestling career with stints in football or bodybuilding. For English, his journey began on the stage. He has been acting since he was a boy. English tells Byron Saxton of WWE.com, "I was cast in a role as 'Dying Child ...

CM Punk and WWE ECW’s Top 10 Best Success Stories

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On February - 28 - 2014
Four years ago this month, WWE’s ECW brand was permanently shut down. It was announced by Vince McMahon in early February 2010 that the show would cease to exist and would be replaced by a revolutionary new concept called NXT, which has now become the company’s developmental territory. Many fans are quick to point out that ECW wasn’t extreme at all in its later years following the departures of ECW originals such as Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Sandman and others. However, they often forget that the brand featured some of the best wrestling of any other WWE show at the time. From 2006 to ...

Analyzing Vince McMahon and WWE’s Ties to Professional Sports

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On February - 28 - 2014
For Vince McMahon and WWE, professional sports can both feed his empire and help to expand it. The sports entertainment giant has long been culling talent from the football field and using sports stars as added attractions. That has been especially true for boxers, whom WWE has welcomed into its rings time and time again. McMahon has also tried to duplicate his wrestling promotion triumphs in the realm of pro sports, only to find that he is master of one world, and one world alone. It's a world that benefited greatly from football, the seedbed that has grown several WWE Hall of Famers.   Football Funnels ...

John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt Feud Will Lead to Classic Promos

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On February - 28 - 2014
John Cena and Bray Wyatt are set to expand WWE's collection of classic promos, as they enter a feud marked by moving speeches. Much of WrestleMania XXX's spotlight will point at Daniel Bryan, The Undertaker and the WWE Championship, but Cena and Wyatt's contrasting characters and stellar mic-working abilities will lead to that rivalry outshining the others, en route to the Superdome. After suffering another ambush from The Wyatt Family, Cena called out the clan on Monday's WWE Raw. Wyatt answered it and left the former world champ unable to stand—leaving the arena on a stretcher. That all but made their WrestleMania clash ...

WWE gets a lot of criticism, but I gotta give them credit when credit is due.  The company recently had a great showing that deserves notice for the hard work by the powers to be. They showed how well they can still create, build and sell. This week's Reality Check explains it all.   Follow @JustinLaBarRead more Pro Wrestling news on BleacherReport.com

Breaking Down the Best and Worst of the WWE for Week of Feb. 24

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On February - 28 - 2014
A historic launch, marvelous matches and NXT's finest moment provided the best reasons to be a WWE fan this week. The Wyatt Family and The Shield proved to be the highlight of Elimination Chamber. Sami Zayn, Cesaro and others flourished at NXT: Arrival. The loaded WWE Network kicked off. That streaming service was a part of the week's worst moments as well. As expected, it's launch was not without technical issues, tempering the enthusiasm for the game-changing way to watch WWE. WrestleMania's main event and Elimination Chamber's undercard also disappointed, giving negative fans plenty to gripe about. There was plenty to revel in, though. ...
