WWE Missed Opportunities: Reliving the Miss WrestleMania Diva Battle Royal

Posted by Travis Wakeman On February - 28 - 2015
WWE is barreling down the road to WrestleMania. As a result, Missed Opportunities will focus on the company's top event each week for the next month. In this edition, we travel back to WrestleMania 25 from Houston, Texas, and look at the "Miss WrestleMania" 25-Diva Battle Royal. How could this particular match have been better? Oh, let us count the ways. When the match was first announced, it seemed like a very intriguing idea. WWE promised to have current Divas as well as Divas from the past compete in the match. The winner would be crowned Miss WrestleMania and have a chance to be ...

WWE Programming’s Best Match for Week of Feb. 22

Posted by Brad Jones On February - 28 - 2015
Between Fastlane last Sunday and the start of the final stretch of television ahead of WrestleMania, it's been a good week for in-ring competition in WWE. Hopefully, we'll see this continue as we head towards the biggest show of the year. With the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and a multi-man match for the Intercontinental Championship announced this week, there's plenty of opportunity for strong singles action to build towards these bouts—let's hope WWE make the most of the opportunity.   Honourable Mentions With the #GiveDivasAChance Twitter campaign making headlines this week, it's appropriate that two women's matches demonstrated the gulf between developmental and ...

WWE Superstar of the Week for February 28

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On February - 28 - 2015
Despite the fact that Fastlane was this past Sunday, it was a relatively lackluster week in the land of World Wrestling Entertainment. Roman Reigns defeated Daniel Bryan for a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, John Cena was crushed by Rusev, and Goldust got a win over his brother, Stardust. We also got to see a few WWE Superstars play hot potato with the Intercontinental Championship. The title never actually changed hands, but it was stolen, retrieved and stolen again. Seth Rollins and Jon Stewart have been trading barbs on social media and The Daily Show, but perhaps the biggest story this week was ...

Best Candidates to Win Andre the Giant Battle Royal at WWE WrestleMania 2015

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On February - 27 - 2015
WWE WrestleMania 31 is just weeks away, and that means one thing. Well, it actually means several things, but there is one match that could be a game-changer for the winner. The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal will return this year. That means a big Royal Rumble-style bout that will see the winner presented with a huge trophy. Cesaro won last year's match, but he didn't get to capitalize off the win like everyone had hoped. He was pushed for a little while, but he eventually fell to the wayside before finding new life teaming with Tyson Kidd. This cannot happen again. ...

Breaking Down the Best and Worst of the WWE for Week of February 23

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On February - 27 - 2015
Proving grounds dotted the WWE landscape in the last week of February. At Fastlane, Cesaro and Tyson Kidd thrived when given the chance to climb to the top of the tag team division. Roman Reigns hammered a home run at the pay-per-view, proving that he belongs on center stage. Kevin Owens thrived as a heel without even stepping into the ring. Lack of opportunity to produce the kind of demonstrations of excellence that Owens, the new tag champs or Reigns did provided the most grating elements of WWE programming. The company continues to bungle Bad News Barrett's title reign. And as much ...

Sting’s Legacy Hinges on WWE WrestleMania 31 Match with Triple H

Posted by Erik Beaston On February - 27 - 2015
Over the course of his career, Sting has garnered the nickname The Icon, and rightfully so. With all that he has accomplished in World Championship Wrestling and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, there has always been a twinge of doubt cast over his legacy, thanks to the fact that he has never competed in Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment. For decades, fans have dreamed up some phenomenal matchups involving the legendary figure but never have they had the opportunity to see those contests play out on the grand stage that the company offers. That will all change Sunday, March 29, when Sting squares off ...
WWE social media was the home of issued challenges as February came to a close. Seth Rollins called out Jon Stewart again but this time from a more uncomfortable distance. Zack Ryder and Adam Rose grumbled at each other via Twitter, teasing a future collision. Meanwhile, AJ Lee challenged Stephanie McMahon and WWE to start giving its women some decent opportunities for a change.  The playful rivalry between Stewart and Rollins began last week when Mr. Money in the Bank dissed the host of The Daily Show on Raw. Stewart responded with a funny wrestling-style monologue. The next time they exchanged words, it was ...

Dolph Ziggler Has Lost All Momentum Heading into WWE WrestleMania 2015

Posted by Donald Wood On February - 27 - 2015
Former world champion Dolph Ziggler was one of the hottest stars in the WWE at the tail end of 2014, but the company has dropped the ball with the Superstar and lost all of his momentum heading into WrestleMania 31. Even more so than Daniel Bryan, Ziggler is the forgotten star on the road to WrestleMania. To understand the rise and fall of Ziggler, you have to go back six months. With both Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns injured, “The Showoff” stepped up huge and was one of the biggest draws alongside Dean Ambrose. Ziggler would hold the Intercontinental Championship as well, ...

Emma Is Greatest Proof of Disconnect Between NXT and WWE Divas

Posted by Erik Beaston On February - 27 - 2015
There is a very real disconnect that exists between the Divas of NXT and World Wrestling Entertainment's main roster shows. At TakeOver: Rival on February 11, Charlotte defended the NXT Women's Championship against Bayley, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks in a Fatal 4-Way match that earned rave reviews across social media platforms, including Twitter. The contest reminded fans that women were just as capable of delivering a phenomenal match when given time and a quality story as any of their male counterparts. Some hailed the contest as the best of the night, while other concluded it was the greatest Divas match they ...
