WWE Cruiserweight Classic 2016 Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction for August 31

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On August - 31 - 2016
We have reached the quarterfinals of the first WWE Cruiserweight Classic. After producing 24 outstanding matches in the first two rounds, the CWC has quickly become one of WWE's hottest properties. The show is presented in such a different way that it sometimes doesn't feel like we are watching a WWE production, and it's not just because most of the talents come from other promotions. The lack of feuds and storylines might make the show less appealing to some fans, but if you enjoy seeing pure wrestling action, you need to be watching this show. The only downside to reaching this point in ...
Wednesday's episode of NXT was a show dedicated to building toward the future. It lacked star power and for good reason. There was no Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries or Hideo Itami. In their place was Steve Cutler, Aliyah, Liv Morgan and No Way Jose, all of whom the brand will rely on to carry it into the coming months and year. Unfortunately, it was a mess of a show, headlined by Shinsuke Nakamura's return to Full Sail University for the first time since capturing the NXT Championship last Saturday night. To suggest the show was bad would be an understatement. It ...

WWE SmackDown: Burning Questions to Address After August 30 Show

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On August - 31 - 2016
We are no closer to knowing who Apollo Crews is after the Aug. 30 edition of WWE SmackDown. WWE Creative's idea of adding to his character was to get him to inform a rival of the letters in his name. When Tuesday's SmackDown wrapped up, Crews' direction was among the most unclear situations unfolding on the show.  But at least he got some airtime. Kalisto continued to be absent from the proceedings. WWE has remained quiet on why the high-flyer has been grounded. SmackDown's trip to Dallas also left fans wondering about John Cena's place in the WWE jungle and whether the company has already ...
WWE SmackDown heads off into its own era of exclusive pay-per-views with excitement about what lies ahead at Backlash on Sept. 11. With a revamped Intercontinental Championship picture, one of the company's most popular stars heading into the world-title scene and two new champions to crown, there is plenty to get excited about. In fact, all signs point to Backlash being one of WWE's most intriguing shows in quite some time. The card isn't completely locked down, though, and there's plenty of speculation as to who the new champions will be. So here's a preview of the show, including the potential title winners.Begin Slideshow
Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles' battle over the WWE World Championship has the ingredients to be a stellar feud. WWE just has to turn up the temperature as they cook. The wild-eyed antihero Ambrose is set to face the former TNA champ and New Japan Pro Wrestling star Styles at the Backlash pay-per-view on Sept. 11. It's a fresh matchup featuring two intriguing performers. Styles earned his title shot by taking down John Cena at SummerSlam. Ambrose retained the world title by outlasting Dolph Ziggler at the same event. SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan then awarded Styles a crack at Ambrose. How does WWE now take ...
1. A New Chapter Ahead for Del Rio  Alberto Del Rio won't have to search long for a silver lining after splitting from WWE. He is about to go from frustrated midcarder in one world to marquee name in another, as he did in 2014. The Pride of Mexico will be free to rule the independent circuit, to explore his options in Japan and be a megastar back home once more. Dave Meltzer reported on F4WOnline.com that Del Rio and WWE are set to part ways: "Sources say he and WWE have come to terms on a release, leaving him free to work in ...

Projecting Best Roles for Triple H on WWE Raw Following Return

Posted by Aaron Bower On August - 31 - 2016
Triple H's return to WWE programming on Monday night sent shock waves through the company, and there's a fascinating amount of avenues he can go down next. Babyface or heel. Authority figure or renegade. The possibilities appear endless for The Game right now. He could even return to in-ring competition.  Next Monday's edition of Raw will clear the air somewhat and offer an intriguing look ahead as to what Triple H will be doing. But for now, there's no harm in speculating. Does The Game have a new relationship with Kevin Owens to strengthen? Or does he have his own reasons for interfering in ...
On the heels of an epic promo directed at general manager Daniel Bryan, The Miz returned to SmackDown Tuesday night and again spit in the face of the notion that he is a cowardly worker, then proceeded to have an intense exchange with Dolph Ziggler that made the intercontinental champion's status the biggest winner for the August 30 broadcast. The former reality television star captivated fans with the intensity and authenticity with which he approached his promo. One could tell simply by staring into his eyes that he meant every word that poured out of his mouth, and rightfully so. After ...
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns each had a good chance of becoming the new WWE universal champion. Rollins arguably had a better chance, of course, mostly because he was Triple H's chosen one, and because Reigns has already been down this road a few times before. But neither man got the nod, because Triple H gave the assist to Kevin Owens. So what's left for the two former Shield teammates? To say that this scenario was unpredictable would be a massive understatement. Rollins has always been in The Game's pocket, so when he suddenly appeared at ringside, everyone likely assumed he was ...
The Miz was the talk of the wrestling world a week ago when he verbally demolished Daniel Bryan on a special episode of Talking Smack. On Tuesday night, he rolled into SmackDown Live with a few other things to get off his chest. What would the intercontinental champion have to say to Bryan, the WWE Universe and anyone else who questioned his toughness? More importantly, would he be able to get through his promo without interruption? What would AJ Styles have in store for WWE champion Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt for Randy Orton and Carmella for Nikki Bella as WWE Creative put together ...
