The Good, the Great and the Awesome from Raw 5/26/14

Posted by Erik Beaston On May - 27 - 2014
Writing "The Good, the Great and the Awesome" is so much easier to do when World Wrestling Entertainment produces a great episode of Raw, SmackDown or NXT. Monday night, Raw featured a few solid segments that highlighted the three biggest stories in the company and did a great job of shining a light on the feud between Sheamus and Cesaro over the United States Championship. But with a pay-per-view upcoming this weekend and a desperation to attract more subscriptions to the WWE Network setting in, the company needed a great show to convince fans to go out of their way to order ...

How Ego and Greed Will Once Again Ruin WWE Evolution

Posted by Tom Clark On May - 27 - 2014
Evolution is headed on a collision course with The Shield in a no-holds-barred elimination match at Payback on Sunday, June 1.  The match is the second one in this rivalry and it promises to be a very exciting, very dramatic contest. But while the members of Evolution currently appear to be on the same page, the fact is that looks can be deceiving.  Their union could be short-lived, as ego and greed could once again ruin Triple H's group. It was back on the April 14 edition of Monday Night Raw when Hunter, Batista and Randy Orton reunited at the end of ...
The May 26 episode of Raw is in the books, and if your idea of a strong "go-home" episode of the show is subpar wrestling, terrible comedy angles and lazy, mediocre booking, you likely loved Monday's broadcast. For everyone else, it served as a major blunder on the road to Payback. The three main stories (Cena-Wyatt, Shield-Evolution and the Bryan saga) were the highlights of an otherwise poor episode of World Wrestling Entertainment's flagship show. The United States Championship match between Sheamus and Cesaro at Sunday's event was strongly hyped in two separate segments, while the build to Rob Van Dam vs. Bad ...

Brad Maddox Fired as WWE Raw General Manager

Posted by Chris Roling On May - 26 - 2014
WWE Raw general manager Brad Maddox is out of a job due to performance issues. The Authority, otherwise known as Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, announced the move on the opening segment of the May 26 edition of Raw—after Maddox received a beatdown at the hands of Kane. The Authority cited a decision by Maddox on the previous week's Raw to allow two members of the The Shield to act as ringside commentators during an encounter with Evolution, which of course erupted into a three-on-three brawl between the two stables. He was sent out of his former place of employment on a stretcher, as ...

WWE Is Finally Making the Most of Bad News Barrett’s Talent

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On May - 26 - 2014
WWE has found the right fangs to fit inside Bad News Barrett's maw. With the Intercontinental Championship draped across his shoulder, his knuckles freshly bruised and a predator's grin across his face, Barrett is flourishing. He hasn't been as properly cast since Nexus disbanded. Now he's getting to use the right mix of his arrogance and brawling skills.  Momentum was harder to come by for him before his recent roll. On July 22, 2013, Rob Van Dam smacked him around on Raw. It was a one-sided match designed to make the returning Van Dam look good. WWE needed someone for "Mr. Monday Night" to flatten ...

WWE Raw: Live Results, Reaction and Analysis for May 26

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On May - 26 - 2014
Welcome to Bleacher Report's live WWE Raw coverage for May 26. This week's show was taped in England, so the results are available as it airs later in the United States. But for those who do not like spoilers, this is your source for play-by-play and analysis. We are just six days away from Payback, which makes this show one of the last chances WWE has to set the feuds and matches as well as choose a direction for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. WWE has a lot of different angles going on at the moment. Here is a rundown of which matches have ...

Examining Irish Whip Wrestling’s Influence on WWE

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On May - 26 - 2014
WWE would look mighty different without a small wrestling company across the ocean—Irish Whip Wrestling. A company that is just over a decade old and based in a country not known as a wellspring of wrestling talent has left an imprint on WWE. IWW has fed WWE a handful of stars and been a training ground for prospects looking to launch themselves forward from NXT.  In a building where the concrete walls nearly kiss the ring ropes or in a gym where a basketball hoop seems to watch over the in-ring action from the wall, men like Sheamus were cultivating WWE dreams. WWE ...

Projecting How to Book the Shield Following Feud with Evolution

Posted by Aaron Bower On May - 26 - 2014
The members of The Shield are enjoying the brightest spell of their fledgling careers at this moment in time as they prepare to lock horns with Evolution once again at the upcoming Payback show. After their magnificent effort at Extreme Rules—where all three members of the group delivered some of their strongest work to date—the onus is on them to deliver again at Payback. First and foremost, you shouldn't worry too much about that. They are riding on a wave of fan adulation and popularity, so success against Evolution—in terms of the reactions they get from the fans—is virtually guaranteed. However, when that ...

WWE Needs to Take the Focus Off of John Cena in 2014

Posted by Sharon Glencross On May - 26 - 2014
While Daniel Bryan's recent neck surgery may make Vince McMahon and his team of writers panic and think they need to have John Cena plastered all over Raw more than ever right now, what the company truly needs to do is take the focus off of him and concentrate on newer stars. There are persuading arguments for continuing to place the spotlight on Cena: He's still a big name, he's still the consummate company man, WWE has struggled to come up with a suitable replacement for him, etc. These are valid points, but really, the company only creates more problems for itself ...

Predicting WWE’s Main Event Scene Without Daniel Bryan

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On May - 26 - 2014
The present and the future will work in concert to replace Daniel Bryan on the WWE marquee while he recovers from neck surgery. Rather than just elevate a star or two to Bryan's spot, expect the sports-entertainment giant to spread the focus of the spotlight. As WWE has done en route to Payback, the best options include offering a variety of headliners at the top of the card. There's no real equivalent to the electric connection Bryan has made with fans.  WWE could just sit John Cena back in his throne as the company's top guy. As safe as that would be, it ...
