WWE Week in Review, June 28: Roman Reigns Supreme, Vickie Guerrero Fired

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On June - 28 - 2014
It's been a rocky road toward Money in the Bank, but with the pending pay-per-view drawing near, on Sunday, it's safe to say that WWE has done a superb job of building up the card. This week's programming had the task of hyping each advertised match and getting viewers excited for the event, and the WWE succeeded. Roman Reigns solidified himself as a favorite to win Sunday's WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder match when he stood tall at the end of Raw, Main Event and SmackDown. Will he leave Boston as champion, or will The Authority thwart his plans once again? Another ...

The Good, the Great and the Awesome from SmackDown (June 27)

Posted by Erik Beaston On June - 28 - 2014
With only 48 hours until Money in the Bank, WWE rolled into the Consol Energy Center for SmackDown! Just four days after laying "the Demon" Kane out with a spear to close out Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns would be given the unenviable task of squaring off with the Big Red Monster in Friday's main event. Despite the best efforts from the mask-wearing monstrosity and Randy Orton to take Reigns out of the match, the former powerhouse of The Shield once again stood tall on the road to what could be his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Sheamus and Bray Wyatt went ...
Fury threatens to blind foes enough to keep victory away as they collide at WWE Money in the Bank 2014. The splintered parts of what was once The Shield meet in a seven-man battle with a career-changing opportunity on the line. It will be a struggle to not let their animosity ruin their chances of winning. The Funkadactyls may find themselves too focused on their own bad blood as well. The upcoming pay-per-view promises to feature at least one championship coronation, but a pair of brutes from the swamp are likely to add to that.  The TD Garden in Boston welcomes one of WWE's newer ...

WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from June 27

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On June - 27 - 2014
Every week on Bleacher Report, I take an in-depth look at WWE SmackDown to recap the action, offer analysis and grade the matches, segments and anything else that takes place on the show. I also provide some predictions on the direction of storylines. This was the final show before Money in the Bank, and WWE did a decent job of pushing every feud heading into the pay-per-view. Bray Wyatt and Sheamus probably had the match of the night, but Dolph Ziggler and Rob Van Dam looked pretty good against Alberto Del Rio and Cesaro as well. More drama from Cameron and Naomi, Big E putting Rusev ...

Why Rusev Would Be a Great Propeller to Roman Reigns’ Ascension

Posted by Chris Featherstone On June - 27 - 2014
On a previous episode of Raw, former WWE SmackDown general manager Vickie Guerrero continued her slavish ways by embarrassingly catering to the Authority. In her defense, Roman Reigns gave her the courage to stand up for herself, using the small amount of stroke she had to place him in the wildcard Battle Royal to determine the latest qualifier for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Money in the Bank. The rally was successful, and Reigns became an entrant. At the end of the Battle Royal, two behemoths commenced the traditional "faceoff"—Roman Reigns and Alexander Rusev. However, this one was a ...

WWE Shouldn’t Lose Faith in Bad News Barrett over Latest Injury

Posted by Sharon Glencross On June - 27 - 2014
In what is some genuinely horrendous timing, intercontinental champion Bad News Barrett suffered a fairly serious shoulder injury at this week’s SmackDown taping. There is no word on the severity of it, but as the company’s official site noted, it doesn't look good. Barrett himself gave a small update on his official Twitter account a few days ago: Barrett has previously dealt with arm/shoulder problems in the past. He suffered a dislocated elbow in early February 2012 and was out for several months afterwards. But after years of languishing in the lower midcard, the British star was actually starting to get somewhere with his ...
To dig into WWE social media this week was to experience a fun look behind the curtain. The tweets, Instagram photos and viral videos from the WWE world that most intrigued centered largely around catching glimpses that the cameras on Raw and SmackDown don't provide. Fans vicariously experienced what it's like to burst through the curtain and reach the Money in the Bank briefcase. They saw Paige and Emma goof around backstage and how well Lana stays in character off screen. Jim Ross' commentary, Enzo Amore's return and flubs on the mic delivered some of the other notable WWE-related social media offerings. Amore ...

Randy Orton Needs to Turn on the Authority to Revive His Career

Posted by Sharon Glencross On June - 27 - 2014
Is it time for Randy Orton to turn back to babyface and sever his association with The Authority? I think so. After a mediocre heel run over the past year, WWE and Orton may have to accept that playing henchman to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon just isn’t doing him any favors. Orton has spent much of the past year playing second fiddle to the McMahons. Even when he held the world title, he was still rather marginalized. Does anyone even remember his boring feuds with The Big Show and John Cena over the belt? Granted, the star didn’t help himself with his dull and ...
