Cesaro and the Most Disappointing WWE Superstars of 2014

Posted by Alfred Konuwa On December - 30 - 2014
WWE was a beacon of hope for several rising stars, namely Cesaro. The Swiss Superman broke out under the tutelage of Zeb Colter. By early April he was on the shortlist of stars to watch coming out of WrestleMania XXX. He escaped from the human quicksand that is the WWE's midcard and took Paul Heyman with him. It didn't get any better for Cesaro after that. A handful of WWE Superstars disappointed in 2014. Some stars disappointed based on lofty prior achievements. Others just lost a yearlong battle with their own potential. WWE Superstars on this list are assessed based on expectations compared to ...
The Dec. 29 edition of Raw closed out the year with a resounding bang, bringing back Daniel Bryan just in time for WWE Royal Rumble 2015. Setbacks in his recovery from neck surgery made it look like he might have to wait until WrestleMania or later to compete again. WWE fans, though, got a late Christmas present: Bryan is back. That shakes up the field of potential Rumble winners. WWE essentially had one legitimate choice and a few long-shot options beforehand. Now, it has a dilemma. Does it give Bryan another memorable WrestleMania moment, or does it crown Roman Reigns the company's next ...
On the final WWE Raw of 2014, The Authority returned, erasing the importance of Team Cena's win at Survivor Series. What the company billed as the biggest match in Survivor Series history didn't oust the corporate tyrants in power; it merely put them on a brief hiatus. Suddenly, Big Show's desperation-fueled betrayal, Dolph Ziggler's heroic comeback and Sting's arrival feel far less meaningful. It now all feels like a fever dream.  Before Stephanie McMahon and Triple H sauntered back into the spotlight, the fans inside Washington, D.C.'s Verizon Arena witnessed an edition of Raw that continually gained momentum in its first two hours. Brock ...

The 15 Greatest WWE Moments of 2014

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On December - 30 - 2014
Indelible moments catapulted WWE's new crop of headliners in 2014. Daniel Bryan provided much of the year's biggest lasting images as his popularity soared. When neck surgery halted his momentum, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose picked up the baton he dropped and sprinted toward a new horizon. It was certainly a year powered by nostalgia, but the emerging stars gave fans the biggest throat lumps. Bryan finally planted his flag on WWE's mountaintop. Rollins tore apart the group he claimed to have built. Sami Zayn finally held NXT gold, only to have a former friend leave him wearing a neck brace. Those moments and ...

Posted by Tom Clark On December - 30 - 2014
Roman Reigns is a WWE Superstar whom many fans feel is on the way up.  His look and combination of size and strength are enough to convince many of the WWE faithful that he is the next big thing and will one day be elevated to the spot of top guy. But becoming a major player in WWE requires much more than just fan support and the apparent right mix of main event qualities. Being a top guy in Vince McMahon's company means that booking must be right and the win/loss record must be impressive. The fact is that Reigns must beat ...

Examining the Breakdown in Character from NXT to WWE’s Main Roster

Posted by Tom Clark On December - 30 - 2014
NXT has been turning heads among pro wrestling fans for quite some time now, especially since the REvolution event that took place back on December 11.  That night saw the ring debut of Kevin Owens, the war paint of Finn Balor and the crowning of Sami Zayn as the new NXT champion. Since that night, WWE's developmental territory has been the destination for many fans who are ready to see the company move ahead.  But while the NXT stars are most certainly the main-event players of tomorrow, the fact is that something is getting lost in translation from Florida to the ...

WWE Classic of the Week: Cactus Jack vs. Triple H from Royal Rumble 2000

Posted by Erik Beaston On December - 30 - 2014
The Street Fight for the WWE Championship between Cactus Jack and Triple H at Royal Rumble 2000 was merely the latest chapter in their rivalry—a rivalry that had spawned several wild and chaotic brawls in the three years prior to the pay-per-view showdown. When all was said and done, however, the latest chapter became a defining one as the performers delivered a match that is looked upon and celebrated not just as one of the finest in Royal Rumble history, but one of the best in the five-plus decades of World Wrestling Entertainment. A brutal, violent match that was fueled by the ...
The final WWE Raw of 2014 hit the USA Network airwaves with a bang as Tony Chimel introduced guest general managers Edge and Christian to the crowd in Washington, D.C. While the former WWE Tag Team champions' return may have been the biggest story entering the broadcast, it was the return of The Authority at the end of the evening that had the wrestling world buzzing. With Edge prone in the center of the ring and Seth Rollins vowing to cripple him unless John Cena returned Triple H and Stephanie McMahon to power, Cena was faced with a moral dilemma. Either he would ...
The Dec. 29 edition of WWE Raw looked to be on its way to churning up a surplus of momentum heading into the new year. The Usos won the tag titles in an outstanding match. Daniel Bryan made an announcement worth celebrating. Then the show spiraled downward. The Ascension's debut underwhelmed. The night's final segment outdid that match in terms of leaving fans unsatisfied. Seth Rollins forced John Cena's hand, getting him to bring The Authority back. Just when 2015 looked to be a year promising progress, WWE returned to a familiar formula. The following recaps, pick apart and grade that decision, as well ...

The Authority Reinstated to Power By John Cena: Latest Details and Reaction

Posted by Joseph Zucker On December - 30 - 2014
The Authority's exile only lasted a few months. After being banished following Team Cena's win at Survivor Series, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H made their triumphant return on Monday night's edition of Raw, per the WWE Universe: With it being close to the new year and all, the two shared a celebratory drink after getting back into power: John Cena was the only person who could reinstate The Authority, which was the stipulation of the Survivor Series main event. Seth Rollins finally goaded Cena into doing so, using Edge as a hostage: While most fans will be happy to see The Authority back in ...
