Posted by Donald Wood On August - 26 - 2016
Former WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes is a wrestling free agent with ample opportunities and an inspiring actor gaining mainstream credentials. The future is bright for the 31-year-old performer. Not only is Rhodes diving head first into the independent wrestling scene by working for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Ring of Honor, but he is also focusing his attention on an acting career that has already started with a role on the television series Arrow. In a recent interview with Ring Rust Radio, Rhodes opened up on what he learned from WWE about signing long-term deals, his upcoming match with wrestling legend Kurt Angle, ...

John Cena vs. AJ Styles and the Best WWE Matches for Week of August 25

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On August - 25 - 2016
Nobody in WWE delivers in big matches like John Cena and AJ Styles; their SummerSlam instant classic was further evidence of that. NXT Superstars tore the roof off the Barclays Center at TakeOver: Brooklyn II, SummerSlam's marquee title matches thrilled and SmackDown showcased Dolph Ziggler's desperate attempt to earn another shot at the WWE World Championship. But it was Cena and Styles who most ensnared the audience. The rematch of their Money in the Bank stunner was absolute magic. Cena passed the baton to The Phenomenal One in a dramatic clash. He padded his Hall of Fame resume, and Styles continued his MVP-caliber year. WWE fans had ...

Daniel Bryan: Latest News, Rumors and Speculation on WWE SmackDown GM

Posted by Joseph Zucker On August - 25 - 2016
Daniel Bryan formally retired from in-ring competition in February, but WWE fans may not have seen the last of the four-time world champion between the ropes. Continue for updates. WWE Yet to 'Completely Shut the Door' on Bryan's Return to Wrestling Thursday, Aug. 25 Forbes' Anthony DiMoro reported Thursday that WWE is leaving open the possibility Bryan can return: As of now, WWE is planning to continue the angle of wrestlers calling out Bryan for his retirement and taunting Bryan for not being able to wrestle. WWE knows it's a hot button topic with fans and will continue to tease a Bryan return. While, at this time, it still remains unlikely that Bryan returns ...
To ease the pain of Bayley's departure for Raw, WWE NXT offered a salve in the form of promising new talent Ember Moon. NXT invaded Brooklyn, New York, during SummerSlam week, and at both TakeOver: Brooklyn II and Wednesday's NXT, the developmental brand showed off its ever-stocked collection of talent. It showcased its marquee stars, as well as prospects worth keeping an eye on such as No Way Jose and Tye Dillinger. Moon was among the wrestlers who made the loudest statements in Brooklyn. The debuting grappler instantly staked claim to the top tier of the women's division. The Dallas native walloped Billie Kay, looking impressive ...

WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE Backlash 2016 for Week of August 22

Posted by Kevin Wong On August - 25 - 2016
We’re on our way to the first WWE Backlash in seven years, thanks to the brand split. Backlash is now a SmackDown exclusive and will take place on September 11, a mere two weeks from now. That’s not a lot of time for a proper build, but Tuesday’s SmackDown was an excellent start. There’s going to be an incredible main event: AJ Styles vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship. Combine that with the Six-Pack Challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship and the tournament for the SmackDown tag team titles, and there are the makings of a solid card with high ...
What a week for WWE. SummerSlam happened, WWE revealed a new Universal Championship that was skewered by its entitled fanbase and Brock Lesnar bloodied Randy Orton in a finish so graphic that Chris Jericho reportedly thought it was real, per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Marc Middleton Wrestling Inc.). That finish led to a reported backstage fight between Jericho and Lesnar. Finn Balor continued WWE's unfortunate tradition of prominent independent wrestlers being forced to forfeit world titles due to injury, joining Daniel Bryan (2014) and Seth Rollins (2015). Heath Slater has become the new Zack Ryder. However, not one of those events was the ...

Best and Worst WWE Championship Belt Designs of All Time

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On August - 25 - 2016
Even while Seth Rollins and Finn Balor laid their guts on the mat at SummerSlam in a match that left The Demon King with a torn labrum, much of the focus was on the design of the championship belt they fought over.  WWE unveiled the new Universal Championship that night, only to have the Twizzler-colored prize panned in the arena and online. Fans inside Barclays Center chanted snarky comments like "That looks ugly." Twitter had a field day with the belt. Rollins was unhappy with the criticism. He tweeted, "More important than a title's appearance is what it represents for the men fighting over ...

Bayley, Stephanie McMahon and the Women Who Are Reshaping the WWE Landscape

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On August - 25 - 2016
Pro wrestling has always been a man's world, but the past few years have seen a shift toward making women a more integral part of the show, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. As someone who was highly critical of the old Divas division only having matches lasting as long as it took for me to run to the bathroom, this writer could not be happier. Female athletes have been finding more and more success over the years, from the Williams sisters owning the world of tennis for more than a decade to Ronda Rousey making history in ...
When Ted DiBiase called his wife in the morning to check in, he hadn't bothered to sleep the night before. After he and Irwin R. Schyster clashed with two mammoth opponents known as The Natural Disasters at WrestleMania VIII in 1992, The Million Dollar Man did as one would expect that character to do. He bounced around Indianapolis' hot spots in a high-priced suit. He lounged in the back of a limousine. A pair of pretty girls nestled under his arms through much of it all. When he picked up the hotel lobby phone and dialed his home number, reality tore into ...

WWE Cruiserweight Classic 2016 Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction for August 24

Posted by The Doctor Chris Mueller On August - 25 - 2016
The past five days have been one of the busiest times for WWE in recent memory. It started Saturday with NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II. The NXT special, SummerSlam, Raw, SmackDown, NXT's regular weekly episode and the Cruiserweight Classic added up to over 15 hours of wrestling in less than a week. If you watch TNA, it's even more. The funny thing about all this is how the CWC, a one-hour show with no storylines, ended up being better than the majority of what we saw from the main roster. This was the final week of second-round matches, leaving just eight men to compete ...
