WWE Survivor Series 2016: Most Exciting Swerves in Event’s History

Posted by Graham GSM Matthews On November - 2 - 2016
Having been one of WWE's “Big Four” pay-per-views since 1987, Survivor Series has always been one of the company's most anticipated events of the year. Although it can be argued that it has lost its luster in recent years, the 2016 installment on Nov. 20 is surely shaping up to be sensational. With WWE celebrating 30 years of the Thanksgiving week tradition later this month, it is safe to assume it will be pulling out all the stops for the event. A marquee match pitting Goldberg against Brock Lesnar has already been confirmed for the card, along with three Raw vs. SmackDown ...
1. The Lone Wolf on the Rise The rumbling sound you hear is Baron Corbin charging toward the world championship, toward the marquee, toward the top rung of WWE SmackDown. A simple equation of opportunity plus talent will get him to all of those places. And it won't take long. Corbin continues to show himself to be a star in the making. Since arriving from NXT in April, The Lone Wolf has grown tremendously. He's become more comfortable on the mic, has increasingly harnessed the power of his ill-tempered, ruthless character and shown great presence as he pounds on his opponents. Corbin's size (6'8", 275 pounds) ...
Hulk Hogan and Gawker Media have reached a settlement that will pay Hogan $31 million, court filings revealed, according to Brian Stelter of CNN.   Hogan, 63, sued Gawker in 2012, asserting the website violated his privacy after it released a sex tape involving the former wrestler. A Florida jury awarded Hogan $140 million in damages, which forced Gawker Media into bankruptcy and eventually led to the company's assets being sold to Univision.  "After four years of litigation funded by a billionaire with a grudge going back even further, a settlement has been reached," Gawker founder Nick Denton wrote on his blog. "The saga ...

The Nov. 1 episode of WWE SmackDown Live saw the continued build to Survivor Series, where the blue brand will wage war with Raw over brand superiority. On Tuesday night, SmackDown announced its team of five Superstars who will look to bring the victory home for general manager Daniel Bryan and commissioner Shane McMahon. However, none of the Superstars selected were able to secure "biggest winner" status. No, that honor went to a Superstar whose dismay over not being selected allowed him to flex his promo skills and acting abilities as he came face-to-face with one of his bosses.           ...
WWE SmackDown continues to be Raw's weirder little brother. A strange show unfolded on Tuesday night, as James Ellsworth again impacted the WWE World Championship picture, Randy Orton started listening to the voices in his head and Dolph Ziggler went outside of the brand for his next opponent. There were a number of moments to remember—from The Miz pouting about his Survivor Series status to Ellsworth's retreat from security. The matches didn't exactly create any memories, however. SmackDown succeeded in moving stories along, but not in terms of in-ring action. It felt as if WWE was racing through the bouts and qualifying contests, with a ...

Posted by Ryan Dilbert On November - 1 - 2016
Worry washed over the audience as Goldberg pounced on Rusev on Monday's WWE Raw. Before hitting the Jackhammer, a move the powerhouse made famous during his red-hot WCW run in the late '90s, Goldberg slipped. What was supposed to be an impressive moment quickly turned awkward. Was this a sign that Goldberg's age and time away from the business will ruin his match with Brock Lesnar at the Survivor Series pay-per-view on Nov. 20? Or was it just an overblown slip-up? Many fans had to wonder that following the Halloween edition of Raw. The 12-year gap in Goldberg's resume has led some to doubt ...
