Brock Lesnar, Damien Sandow: The Most Disappointing Wrestlers of 2013

Posted by Andy Soucek On December - 31 - 2013
In professional wrestling, character is always in flux.  Some people have good years, others have bad years, and a few have downright awful ones. Unfortunately, few people on the WWE roster this year seemed to gain much momentum. Sure, The Shield, Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee grew to new heights, but many others stagnated or were worse off by year's end. The wrestlers listed here had a promising 2012 and fell flat in 2013, or they just continued to have another uninspired year altogether. Some of the men and women here are long time main event acts, while others continued toiling away in ...

WWE Worst of the Year: The 25 Most Awful Things from 2013

Posted by Andy Soucek On December - 30 - 2013
It was a fascinating and bloated 2013 in WWE. We had 52 editions of three-hour Raws, a brand new reality show to stomach and began the final march toward the WWE network (whatever form that will take). With more WWE TV time than ever before, it was an incredible amount to sort through. Bad things (as well as a lot of good) were bound to happen. We said hello to Xavier Woods, The Wyatt Family and Curtis Axel. We said goodbye to Ted DiBiase, Matt Striker and...well, that's about it. Overall, the year started pretty hot, and that momentum lasted until about WrestleMania. While ...

WWE Worst of the Week: Mark Henry, the Brotherhood and More

Posted by Andy Soucek On December - 22 - 2013
Brace yourself, this is going to be a rough couple weeks of wrestling. The biggest question on every wrestling fan's mind right now isn't "When will Daniel Bryan get a title shot?" but rather "How will WWE top Mae Young giving birth to Hornswoggle this holiday season?" Overall, Raw and SmackDown were pretty decent this past week. With the holidays coming up, they're in a bit of a holding pattern. There wasn't a lot of excitement, but there wasn't much nonsense either. We even got a Raw main event for free that was better than the one on the pay-per-view. So there ...

6 Possible WrestleMania XXX Opponents for Hulk Hogan

Posted by Andy Soucek On November - 12 - 2013
Watcha gonna do if Hulk Hogan comes back to WWE brother? No really, what are you going to do with him? WWE is going to want to get to a million buys again for WrestleMania. It's a huge, nice number that WWE has been able to obtain the past couple years. This year may be another story. The novelty of The Rock and Brock Lesnar is wearing off. Steve Austin is doubtful to ever compete again. But what about The Hulkster? Rumors are flying around that Hogan may indeed come back home. Sure, Hogan didn't exactly tear down the house in TNA, but ...

Triple H vs. Big Show Is Terrible for Business

Posted by Andy Soucek On November - 8 - 2013
Triple H and Big Show got to close out Monday’s Raw. At first glance, it may feel like a rerun from long ago. But it’s actually a lot worse than that. For longtime fans, remember the Nacho Man vs. The Huckster skits that aired on WWF in the mid-90s? These were designed to take a stab at WCW for “stealing” its talent and showcasing older wrestlers. You see, WWF was in the midst of a youth movement then. Why would anyone want to watch those old guys hogging the spotlight? Those skits aired in 1995. At that time, Hulk Hogan and Savage were each ...

The Top 12 TNA Stars WWE Should Sign

Posted by Andy Soucek On October - 29 - 2013
Big things are going down in TNA. The company may look drastically different a year from now than it does today. With talent releases and the imminent retreat back to the Impact Zone, things aren't going well. Rumors of a sale are making the rounds, with even WWE as a possible buyer. For fun, let's imagine that it happens. When WCW went out of business, the WWF snatched it up—but only bought out the contracts of about 20 wrestlers. Many of the top talents had deals that would have required massive buyouts (Goldberg, Kevin Nash), though there were many wrestlers that the WWF just wasn’t ...

10 Current Things Wrong with TNA

Posted by Andy Soucek On September - 24 - 2013
It's a bit ironic that TNA's latest free pay-per-view was titled No Surrender, as it seems that's what the company is about to do. It won't go out of business entirely (yet), but it looks like the days of being on the road are over. In an interview with Pro Wrestling Torch, Dixie Carter revealed that going on the road was going to cost around $600,000 to $700,000 every time out. That's a colossal amount of money for a company of that size. As many had predicted, taking TNA on the road has not worked out. The group may soon retreat to a ...

WWE Worst of the Week: Dusty Rhodes, Triple H and More

Posted by Andy Soucek On September - 22 - 2013
WWE Worst of the Week doesn't hold any titles, but just like Natalya, it's a born champion. For those who didn't spend their hard-earned money on Grand Theft Auto V, you got to watch WWE's most lackluster pay-per-view of the year. That money probably would have been better spent in San Andreas.  We then saw the fallout of Night of Champions, and to the surprise of no one, Daniel Bryan was stripped of the title. Luckily, he'll get another chance at Battleground. Please insert another $50 to see him win the title again, but this time WWE means it! With conspiratorial refs, Miz's ...

Jim Ross May Be TNA’s Only Hope

Posted by Andy Soucek On September - 20 - 2013
Hulk Hogan? Fire him. Eric Bischoff? Can him. Sting? Send him packing. Jim Ross? Give him anything and everything that he wants to come in to TNA. Right now, Ross could be one of the only people in the wrestling world (or in the entire world) who could save the company from its continuing, seemingly inevitable slide into oblivion. Nearly everyone who watches TNA is in agreement. Things are not going well. The company is strongly considering returning to a single location. Eighteen employees were let go, and they most recently failed to re-sign the Knockouts champion Mickie James. On top of that, ratings are flat ...

Goldust and 11 More Wrestlers Who Deserve Another WWE Run

Posted by Andy Soucek On September - 20 - 2013
Goldust emerged out of nowhere and brought it to Randy Orton on the Sept. 9 episode of Raw. He proved that he still has it. So far, though, it hasn't been enough to land a job. WWE is filled with mid-carders that don't garner much of a reaction. Each week, at some point, it seems that the crowd becomes disinterested and starts to chant for the announcers to entertain themselves instead. Maybe WWE needs to consider bringing back wrestlers who were over, or have the potential to be. That could help keep the fans more engaged. Luckily, there's quite a few former employees ...
