WWE Survivor Series 2012: What to Expect from Big Show vs. Sheamus II
On November - 17 - 2012
Last month at Hell in a Cell, the Big Show defeated Sheamus in a match that went far beyond what anyone anticipated. No one expected much from the bout, as Big Show versus Sheamus will never sound like instant classic material; however, the two did manage to put on the match of the night. After a somewhat slow start the match picked up with plenty of near-falls. Sheamus kicked out of a chokeslam, as well as the “Weapon of Mass Destruction” knockout punch from the Big Show. The giant also kicked out of a brogue kick and white noise, a ...
WWE Commentary Is Better off Without Jerry "The King" Lawler
On October - 6 - 2012
Raw last month saw the tragic incident of Jerry Lawler collapsing at ringside due to a heart attack. In the following weeks, as Lawler recovered, the WWE Universe has nobly shown its support for Jerry Lawler—the man—despite how it may feel about his character—The King. For that, wrestling fans everywhere must be commended. However, none of that changes the reality that prior to his heart attack Lawler’s character was stale and uninspired. Long gone are the days when he was one of the all-time-great heel color commentators. In recent memory, Lawler has merely been a bland baby face with a limited ...
WWE Night of Champions 2012: Why Dolph Ziggler Must Cash in Briefcase
On September - 15 - 2012
The World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus and the Mexican aristocrat Alberto Del Rio have been feuding for almost five months now, and the rivalry has long gone stale. Behind us are the days when rivalries could span an entire year and remain both relevant and enthralling. Sheamus and Del Rio can’t captivate for as long as Batista and the Undertaker or Triple H and Shawn Michaels could in their storied feuds. After facing off in a fatal four way match at Over the Limit and a triple-threat match on SmackDown, Sheamus and Del Rio have had singles matches at both Money ...
WWE Night of Champions 2012: Will Layla vs. Kaitlyn Eventuate?
On September - 8 - 2012
This year’s Night of Champions is just over a week away and for once, the Divas match has already been announced and promoted for several weeks now. Every sanctioned WWE title belt will be defended at the event, including the Divas title, but come September 16 will we actually get the advertised match with Layla and Kaitlyn? Reports from F4Wonline.com indicate that it was a botched ending in the battle royal that lead to Kaitlyn becoming No. 1 contender, a position intended for Eve. Since earning the title shot, Kaitlyn has made more appearances on WWE’s main programs than usual, ...
WWE NXT Is Company’s Best Hour of Weekly Programming
On August - 25 - 2012
Imagine Raw or Smackdown without all of the Touts, tweets, WWE.com exclusives and social media plugs. Imagine a WWE program that was free from excessive recaps. A program that went back to the roots of pro-wrestling. WWE NXT does exactly that, and it's effective. NXT goes back to wrestling's basics, flowing from match to match with the occasional simple promo. Stripping Raw or Smackdown of its elaborate entrances, pyrotechnics and live crowd would leave little for show. NXT however needs no more than simple entrances and a small live crowd who are fans of pure wrestling. With William Regal, Jim ...
WWE Summerslam 2012: Triple H vs. Lesnar, Will There Be Blood?
On August - 18 - 2012
The world was shocked at Extreme Rules earlier this year when Brock Lesnar busted John Cena open with a barrage of elbows in the match’s opening seconds. Despite the trainers toweling the wounds, blood continued to stream down Cena’s face for the rest of the match. By the end, Cena had also split Lesnar open with a chain to the head. Lesnar’s returning match provided the bloodiest scene since WWE became family-friendly with wholly PG content. With blood so seldom seen today, it added greatly to both the match and Lesnar as a “legitimate” destroying machine. In the build up ...
Aces & 8s: Is James Storm Truly Behind the Attacks?
On July - 31 - 2012
For weeks the group Aces & 8s have been causing chaos on Impact Wrestling. They have taken out Sting, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, Kurt Angle, AJ Styles, officials, a Gut Check contestant and even hospitalized Hulk Hogan. At first it may have seemed that the group was a modern version of WWE’s Nexus, all just trying to make a name for themselves. However, on Impact Wrestling this past Thursday, Roode accused James Storm of being the mastermind behind the “Total Non-Stop Anarchy” as Taz puts it. Could Storm really be behind the group? Let’s look at the evidence. Roode claims ...
WWE Today: Looking at the Reality Era of Wrestling
On July - 17 - 2012
Today’s wrestling culture is largely based online in social media, with the Internet Wrestling Community of self-professed smart-marks. Such fans like to think they know the ins-and-outs of the industry’s backstage politics, upcoming angles and all aspects of kayfabe. To retain an element of unpredictability and freshness, the WWE needs to find new ways to keep their fans guessing. In light of this modern development, the WWE has turned to blurring the lines between what is reality and what is scripted. CM Punk’s famous worked-shoot of 2011 is often credited as the catalyst for what many referred to as the ...
WWE Money in the Bank 2012: Pre-Show Tag Match Is All-Around Bad Booking
On July - 14 - 2012
Just last month No Way Out showed some real promise for WWE’s weak tag team division. Four weeks later and already the WWE has fallen back into its old habits. After an excellent four-way No. 1 contender’s match at No Way Out—which included a significant plot twist in the Abraham Washington angle—WWE has already reverted back to the status quo. Yet again, the tag team division has been completely shunned. At Money in the Bank this Sunday, the tag champions R-Truth and Kofi Kingston will face Hunico and Camacho in the online exclusive pre-show. The match has received next-to-no build ...
TNA Breaking News: Impact Wrestling Fights Desperately to Remain on DirecTV
On July - 10 - 2012
Having just celebrated 10 years as a company, TNA is potentially facing the biggest set-back in their existence. The United State’s number one satellite television provider, DirecTV, is planning to pull all Viacom channels from their network as of midnight today. Viacom provides 26 channels to DirecTV including MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon and Spike TV, which currently airs Impact Wrestling. DirecTV serves television programming to over 30 million households in the United States and is the means by which the majority of Impact’s US viewers tune in. If the plan is gone through with, TNA’s already declining audience—despite the increasing quality ...
