The Ziggy Screwjob: Did WWE Drop The Ball, Or Was Dolph Ziggler Punished?

Posted by David Whitehead On February - 19 - 2011
The next WWE hot topic, probably for all of the wrong reasons: the Ziggy Screwjob, as I've coined it. Why? Read on. Let's recap the story so far, as it may be confusing to some. I don't blame you if you're trying to make sense of it. At SmackDown tapings on Jan. 4, Ziggler lost the Intercontinental Championship to Kofi Kingston after a five-month reign. That same night, Ziggler won a four-way match against Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, and The Big Show to become the No. 1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. So far, so good: even if he didn't win the strap (which at that point ...

WWE: The Rock Has Come Back, But Are The Legends Back To Save The WWE?

Posted by David Whitehead On February - 18 - 2011
Before you click the "back" button, this isn't just another article about The Rock's return to the WWE, it's a little deeper than that. Before I go any further, let me opine about his appearance on Monday Night RAW. It was quite easily the best promo of the PG Era by a long way; a promo clinic given by a master at the top of his game, as a good as any he's given in his career. Other wrestlers could learn a lot from him. Which brings me to my main point. We're less than two months into 2011 and we've seen the return ...
In case you're not aware, Sting's profile has been taken down from TNA's website. No doubt everyone will read into this that it's a cert that he is now coming to WWE to wrestle. Well, I'm a huge Sting/Steve Borden fan, and I would love nothing more than his final match to be with the Undertaker (another of my favourite wrestlers over the years), but let's hold off on that talk and look at another possibility, however unpopular it may seem at the moment: He will be inducted in the WWE Hall Of Fame this year. Shawn Michaels was only inducted into the HOF after ...

WWE Smackdown: Why It Needs To Turn To The Dark Side

Posted by David Whitehead On January - 24 - 2011
We've been hearing recently that WWE has suffered a drop in profits and as a result, there may be a rationalisation of the roster, meaning that the RAW and Smackdown rosters and storylines — but not shows — may merge. If anything, Raw & Smackdown need to pull apart even more to have different identities. Two shows doing the same type of thing is overkill on a weekly basis, it has become — quite frankly — bland, predictable and repetitive. I'm not going to preach about the evils of 'PG', I understand the business decision behind going down that road and it ...

TNA: No Impact Show on UK TV, WWE Involved?

Posted by David Whitehead On December - 31 - 2010
This is an article aimed at UK wrestling fans, but please feel free to read and comment on it even if you're in the USA, though it might not make a whole lot of sense. Here's a heads up for TNA fans in the UK. Currently, TNA Impact is shown on Bravo at 9 P.M. on Saturday nights and again on Bravo 2 on Sundays at 9 P.M. To remind anyone who didn't hear the news, here's what is said under Bravo's Wikipedia article: "On 15 September 2010, BSkyB announced that it will close Bravo as well as sister channels Bravo 2 and Channel One. The ...

Bill Goldberg: Why He Should Be Wrestling in TNA…Right Now!

Posted by David Whitehead On November - 2 - 2010
I had a dream last night. It was of Goldberg appearing on TNA and taking out Fourtune while they were doing a promo (specifically an image of him Jackhammering Robert Roode). I must emphasise that I’ve heard no rumours whatsoever of TNA approaching Goldberg and this was only a dream. But let’s for a moment indulge ourselves in a ‘What If?’ scenario Who Is Goldberg? For those of you who don’t know who Goldberg is or didn’t watch him when he wrestled, he has the image of an unstoppable, indestructible wrestling juggernaut; his moveset was unashamedly power-based, he wasn’t usually affiliated with ...
