It's not a surprise that part of the reason Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson won the WWE Championship at January's Royal Rumble pay-per-view is because it's good P.R. for him to carry the belt around media events for his upcoming movies. And with trailers for these movies being released as WrestleMania 29 fast approaches and a rematch between Rock and John Cena imminent, who is to say we won't see some of his co-stars involved in the event?Maybe Vin Diesel is a possibility? What about Mark Wahlberg? WWE has a history of bringing in celebrities to join our favorite professional wrestlers ...
There’s the old saying in sports that records are meant to be broken. Brett Favre's 297 straight starts in the NFL, Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak in baseball and Wilt Chamberlin’s 100-point basketball game are just a few that are considered legendary. When it comes to professional wrestling, the old saying doesn’t always apply. Many of the best records from current or future Hall of Famers were set at a different time in wrestling than what we see now. Records are talked about when we see a star holding a championship for an extended period of time, or when a ...

WWE Hall of Fame: 2013 Class Could Be One of the Best

Posted by Dean Siemon On February - 5 - 2013
A few names have been announced for this year's WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2013, and there are sure to be a few more announced before WrestleMania 29.But with Monday's announcement that Bruno Sammartino will be inducted the night before WrestleMania, it just seems that this year's group of legends is possibly the best class to date. It's also a perfect venue at Madison Square Garden, where Sammartino defended the WWF Championship (decades before the company changed to WWE) several times during the course of a record-setting championship reign of nearly eight years.According to the announcement article on WWE.com, Sammartino ...

WWE Starting a Much Needed Change in Tensai Character

Posted by Dean Siemon On February - 2 - 2013
When I watched WWE Raw last Monday to see Tensai, formerly known as Albert in an earlier WWE tenure, I was happy. Happy not only because the Tensai character was becoming stale, but because they were bringing back his old character "Hip Hop Hippo." This was a gimmick that began when Albert teamed with Scotty 2 Hotty in late 2001 to early 2002—before a loss for the Tag Team Championships caused a split. Considering that it seems Brodus Clay is nudging Tensai to dance more, it could be the start of a new tag team in WWE. With the break-up ...

Brock Lesnar’s 2-Year WWE Deal Hopefully Is Not Part-Time

Posted by Dean Siemon On February - 2 - 2013
Once dubbed "The Next Big Thing" in WWE, Brock Lesnar has only wrestled twice so far in his one-year contract, which was signed after last year's WrestleMania. It was reported by PWInsider (via Wrestling Inc.) earlier this week that WWE signed Lesnar to a two-year contract that would take him through WrestleMania 31.Unless Lesnar is going to be touring a little more often than once in a while, then this is a very pointless signing for WWE.At age 35, Lesnar has had a lot of health issues that pretty much knocked him out of being a legitimate competitor in the UFC ...

WWE: NXT Tournament for Royal Rumble Spot a Smart Decision

Posted by Dean Siemon On January - 26 - 2013
In recent months, we've seen the WWE finally give acknowledgement to the developmental NXT brand.Ever since Seth Rollins, then NXT Champion, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns invaded the TLC pay-per-view during the WWE Championship, the casual fan knows NXT is where the youth of WWE is.WWE.com also announced Friday afternoon that there will be an eight-man tournament over the weekend for a spot in this year's Royal Rumble match. The competitors are Bo Dallas, Leo Kruger, Adrian Neville, Conor O'Brian, Corey Graves, Luke Harper, Oliver Grey and Xavier Woods.Honestly I think it would have been better to have Kassius Ohno or ...

WWE Officials Should Consider Making All Programs Live

Posted by Dean Siemon On January - 19 - 2013
It seems WWE has been placing focus on spoiler reports involving the company's taping of programs such as Friday Night SmackDown. According to PWMania.com, the WWE has sent out a 10-question survey to members of the WWE Fan Council that asks about whether fans look for spoilers, where they get them and if that affects their viewing the show. A couple of weeks ago, WWE.com released that Alberto Del Rio defeated the Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship days before the episode of SmackDown aired. Look, there are die-hard wrestling fans that make their best attempt to avoid reading ...

Recent Acquisitions from Independents Show Change of Times in WWE

Posted by Dean Siemon On January - 19 - 2013
It was about a decade ago when the top stars in the WWE were either giants or bodybuilders turned sports entertainers. But now we've seen new stars like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk win world championships and rising stars being brought up like Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.None of these men would have received a look years ago, especially in the 1980s, with the top stars like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior looking like Greek gods.In the last month, we've seen the WWE sign an independent star in El Generico and, most recently, a NCAA All-American wrestler in Clayton Jack, according ...

WWE Royal Rumble 2013: 15 Ideas for Surprise Entrants

Posted by Dean Siemon On December - 22 - 2012
WrestleMania season starts at the Royal Rumble. And while it has hosted several memorable moments, fans have been delighted by some surprise participants the last few years. One of my favorite recent Royal Rumble moments was when Kevin Nash returned as Diesel in 2011 to a very huge welcome.Other stars that receive huge pops when their music hits include "Road Dogg" Jesse James, Mick Foley and Booker T.While many of us are thinking ahead and predicting who will face the Undertaker and what is going to happen with the WWE Championship between the Rock, CM Punk and John Cena? Let's focus ...

WWE: Officials Use Focus Group for WWE Divas Division

Posted by Dean Siemon On December - 8 - 2012
According to a report from PWMania.com, WWE officials have set up a focus group asking fans for their thoughts and opinions on the Divas division. The group has been asked to comment on what they like and dislike, and what they want to see inside and out of the WWE ring. Apparently, officials have just realized that the women's roster has become a bit bland and is nowhere close to what it was about five or six years ago.Remember the last time we had a good match from the Divas at WrestleMania? I would have to go back to Trish Stratus ...
