Top 10 Candidates for WWE’s ‘Mr. Night of Champions’

Posted by Dustin Murrell On September - 1 - 2014
Shawn Michaels is "Mr. WrestleMania." Yielding his briefcase, Seth Rollins is currently "Mr. Money in the Bank."  As WWE's September pay-per-view approaches, I began to wonder who deserved the title of "Mr. Night Of Champions." Dating back to 2007's Vengeance: Night of Champions, WWE has held seven annual NOC events. With the eighth installment just around the corner, are there any Superstars on the roster who have an especially impressive NOC resume? I decided to find out. It can be hard to remain objective when ranking the best grapplers in the world. To force myself from automatically leaving guys like John Cena and ...

WWE Fantasy Booking: Survivor Series 2014

Posted by Dustin Murrell On April - 26 - 2014
Sure, the Survivor Series is seven months away. Sure, you never know if WWE will honor the traditional Survivor Series match gimmick. Sure, most—if not all—of the current storylines will be resolved by November. But it's called "Fantasy Booking" for a reason. With so many great things going on in WWE right now, it would be a perfect time to set up several traditional Survivor Series matches: feuds and factions abound and the roster is full of future Hall of Famers and main eventers. Aside from the Royal Rumble, a traditional Survivor Series match is my favorite annually recurring gimmick match that the ...

WWE Fantasy Booking: Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, WrestleMania XXX

Posted by Dustin Murrell On January - 13 - 2014
My favorite part of the WWE year is the span of time starting with the Monday Night Raw following the December pay-per-view and ending with the Monday Night Raw following WrestleMania. The Royal Rumble match is my favorite match of the year. Elimination Chamber always has the potential for a big swerve or surprise. And then there's WrestleMania.  As that season is just getting underway, my mind always wanders to things I'd like to see happen as we approach WrestleMania. Feuds I wish WWE would start, matches I hope to see, situations I want to come to fruition. And at some point, I've ...

WWE WrestleMania 29: Who Deserves the Title "Mr. WrestleMania"?

Posted by Dustin Murrell On March - 5 - 2013
Around this time of year, people start referring to Shawn Michaels as "Mr. WrestleMania." But is it a distinction he truly deserves?Sure, Shawn Michaels has had several marquee matches. But Steve Austin has never lost a title match at WrestleMania. The Rock has defeated icons from three separate generations. Hulk Hogan was a part of the main event for the first nine years. The Undertaker is 20-0.Considering every competitor and every match from the original WrestleMania through WrestleMania 28, I determine who truly deserves the moniker "Mr. WrestleMania." There was a lot of competition and a lot of names to consider, so ...

WWE: What You Missed Since Last Week’s Raw; Biggest Winner & Loser

Posted by Dustin Murrell On March - 5 - 2013
Due to a temporary but severe lack of Internet access on top of an unexpected hospital visit, my weekly recap of WWE's four lower-rung shows has been absent since the end of January. And due to another unexpected sick day, it came out a day or two later than I would have liked to publish it.But, once again, I bring you What You Missed Since Last Week's Raw.Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber are behind us now, so the only thing anyone is concerned about is WrestleMania. Guys like John Cena and CM Punk and Undertaker and Triple H never have ...
Christmas season tends to be a bad time for television programming. While there is no "offseason" for WWE, even some of their programming suffers this time of year. While this week's non-Raw and non-SmackDown television did include an addition in the form of Tribute to the Troops, the two least significant weekly programs, Superstars and Saturday Morning Slam, were simply year-in-review or best-of editions. As we analyze these shows and try to decide who came out looking the best and who came out looking the worst, we can't overlook what is being recapped. WWE is going to show us what was genuinely ...

Royal Rumble 2013: Which 30 WWE Superstars Will Be in the Match This Year?

Posted by Dustin Murrell On December - 21 - 2012
Aside from WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble is my favorite WWE pay-per-view of the year. I look forward to the Royal Rumble match more than I do the Elimination Chamber, more than Undertaker's match at WrestleMania, more than Money in the Bank, more than Hell in a Cell. When the Rumble first started, they would generally announce all (or almost all) of the participants before the match took place. But over the last decade or so, WWE has used the event as a way to mark the return of a former (or injured) star or allow a cameo for one of the ...
I'll be the first one to admit that I'm not a huge fan of John Cena's character. It's become almost cliché among smarks, but I say it all the time: I respect John Cena the person, but I can't stand John Cena the character. He was mildly entertaining when he fully embraced his comical thug gimmick back in the day, but I haven't been a fan of any of the all-but-unstoppable super-face since I was a little Hulkster.Jimmy Fallon, on the other hand, is one of my favorite "characters" on television today. Along with Colbert and Stewart, I tune into Fallon's ...

CM Punk, Ryback Mystery Shows off What WWE Does Best

Posted by Dustin Murrell On October - 9 - 2012
I'm the kind of person that hates spoilers. I do what I can to avoid them.I didn't see The Sixth Sense until five years after it was released. During those five years, I managed to remain ignorant regarding the Shyamalan twist at the end. And that's one of the most well-known plot twists of all time.I always enjoy the WWE product better when it keeps us guessing and pulls off big surprises. Vince McMahon and his team are some of the absolute best at this game.Remember in the days of the Ministry of Darkness when the company kept us guessing ...
