Raw Gives Me Jubilation: The Miz and the WWE Pull Through

Posted by Gabe Mambo On November - 30 - 2010
The ratings better be high. They better shatter the roof. I only watched the last 25 minutes of a stellar three hour Monday Night Raw. And for once, I loved it. For once, I feel like a wrestling fan in his younger days again. I've been cynical about the WWE before. I've felt that they always fell short of the bar when it came to booking decisions. I always felt that the WWE was unable to pull off a great multitude of excellent matches and segments that were beyond the imagination of today's modern viewer. For once, I'm glad I was wrong. It's ...
Six days ago, one of the biggest occurrences of the year was witnessed by the WWE Universe and many viewers at home. It was an event that will be talked about for quite some time. After defending his WWE Championship against Wade Barrett, Randy Orton was forced to defend his title again. This was due to an opportunistic Mike Mizanin, aka "The Miz," taking advantage of the incumbent champion's leg injury caused by a Nexus attack. Minutes later, the self-proclaimed "Awesome One" of WWE won his first world championship, cementing a solid year that featured him winning the United States and Unified ...
I rarely watch TNA wrestling today. Maybe it's because of some unfounded skepticism I find in the product. Maybe it's simply because it's not as great as it could be. I first heard of TNA wrestling via commercials on my satellite cable system. I was still a WWE-only type of fan, watching wrestlers like Triple H, Randy Orton, John Cena, and Batista on my TV. I never really watched TNA. When I did, I was very impressed. Samoa Joe was the one who caught my attention the most. He was the TNA X Division champion, and he was someone to marvel at. What ...

John Cena: When You Can Only Lose as the WWE’s Face

Posted by Gabe Mambo On October - 4 - 2010
"Sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you lose, you really win," said Gloria Clemente, as portrayed by Rosie Perez in White Men Can't Jump. At WWE Hell in a Cell, the unthinkable happened. John Cena lost to Wade Barrett. For many in the crowd, it was a shocking loss that shook the WWE universe. Fans and members of the "Cenation" and "Chain Gang" couldn't believe that their hero fell to the leader of the ruthless Nexus stable. They wanted it to be a terrible dream. They wanted it to be a nightmare that they would soon wake up from. In ...
Dolph Ziggler is still the Intercontinental Champion. You can thank Vickie Guerrero for that. At WWE Night of Champions, Dolph Ziggler defeated Kofi Kingston in a rematch for the Intercontinental Championship. The win presumably ends a simmering feud that began when Dolph Ziggler showed interest in Kingston's championship. After a vicious beatdown many weeks ago, the blond-haired star held the Intercontinental belt in the air with a wicked grin on his face. Vickie Guerrero stood right by him, supporting her new lover in his new found quest. On Aug. 6, Dolph Ziggler's dream was achieved. He defeated Kofi Kingston for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. It was the ...

Nexus: The Heat Is Still On

Posted by Gabe Mambo On August - 17 - 2010
The unthinkable happened at Summerslam. The Nexus lost. The wrestling stable of youth was arguably the hottest thing in the wrestling industry this year. No group has made more noise than The Nexus. Their hostility towards members of the WWE Universe was captivating. They've attacked people from the middle of the pack to the pinnacle of the promotion itself. In short, they scared the WWE. And then, on Sunday evening, it all came tumbling down. The Nexus lost. People were expecting Wade Barrett's stable to win against "Cena's Army," a group of established wrestlers that represented the last stand for the WWE. If The Nexus ...

WWE’s TV PG Era: Is It Really That Bad?

Posted by Gabe Mambo On July - 31 - 2010
Professional Wrestling has seen better days. In the days of my youth, the WWE was going through the Attitude Era, the pinnacle of the Monday Night Wars. Thanks to controversial segments, smashmouth wrestling, and TV-14 at its best, the WWE beat out WCW as the top promotion, eventually buying their rival in 2001. In this day and age, the story is different. TV-14 has turned into PG. Many wrestling fans in the Internet wrestling community call this era the "PG Era" of the WWE. Swearing is now a no-no. Blood is not to be used in any segment. Scantily clad women are now a thing of ...

What I’d Like to See In The WWE

Posted by Gabe Mambo On July - 25 - 2010
For years, we've seen the WWE evolve before our very eyes. We've seen it through its good times, and we've seen it through its bad times. The Internet Wrestling Community feels that it is at a worse stage than it has ever been before. Though I tend to disagree with the sentiment, I can say that the WWE could use some improvement. What's wrong with asking a promotion to do better? Are there flaws in the WWE? Of course; nothing is ever perfect. One thing that's wonderful about the Internet Age of Professional Wrestling is the ability for fans to express what ideas they ...

The Stable: The Secret to Wrestling Success?

Posted by Gabe Mambo On July - 21 - 2010
There are two elements on my list of things that I liked about the WWE in the past decade. The first: John Cena. Hate him or love him, he's the wrestler that keeps the WWE as a top promotion. He's the most overt wrestler in the world today. You can't dispute that. The second element: evolution and legacy. These two stables seem to radiate of dominance and strength in numbers. Neither stable has failed to make an impact on the WWE. The evolution was led by Triple H and Randy Orton. Ric Flair and Batista were part of the group as well. The "Cerebral ...

WWE Draft Aftermath Part Two: The Supplemental Picks

Posted by Gabe Mambo On April - 28 - 2010
After another day of draft picks galore, both Raw and Smackdown have transfigured rosters. On Tuesday, the WWE conducted the 2010 supplemental draft, a draft that is slightly larger and makes picks that are meant to be smaller than the ones displayed on TV. This year, though, some picks in this year's "second round" seem to be larger than others. The supplemental draft brought about some interesting changes that could end up being big. If the WWE creative staff ends up doing things right, some of these moves could mean a lot to the superstars involved.   MVP to Smackdown Montel Vontavious Porter was supposed to start his eventual ...
