End of Edge? 4 Possible Roles for the Newly Retired Adam Copeland

Posted by james staynings On April - 12 - 2011
It's finally happened. It's been a sad day for wrestling fans everywhere, and many of us saw it coming. However, I don't think anyone predicted it would happen this soon. For those of us who have been living under a rock or missed Raw this past Monday, you've missed perhaps the biggest bombshell of the year. Adam Copeland, AKA Edge, has made the painful decision to retire from the squared ring after 19 years of wrestling and 15 years in the WWE.After numerous injuries, especially considering the nature of his previous neck surgery and the advice given to him, I don't think anyone ...

Wrestlemania 27: Ranking the Good, the Bad and the Salvageable

Posted by james staynings On April - 3 - 2011
The card for Wrestlemania tonight looks, well, interesting, compared to previous years. I don't want to sound like a grumpy of old man by complaining about the matches, the build-up or the wrestlers meant something in years gone by, but considering the state of the WWE right now and being the positive person I am, this year's wrestlemania could be better than we expect. In order to prove this a mere 11 hours before the granddaddy of them all I'm going to try and highlight the best wrestlemania has to offer at the moment. Some of the matches, although seem bad ...
For a long time I've read about wrestling from the perspective of an outsider looking in. Now I'm one of the few lucky people who get to sit behind the keyboard and write whatever they like and feel about wrestling for a site like this.A site, like many others, that perhaps gets labelled a "dirtsheet" and its users and readers labelled "smarts." I want to write a series of articles dedicated to defending the IWC, because of all the abuse it sometimes takes. Whether it be from wrestlers, outsiders looking in, other fans and even by members of the IWC itself on sites like ...

Thought in Five Minutes: The Potential of Tough Enough to Help Wrestling

Posted by james staynings On March - 16 - 2011
I've written two articles so far with more to come and they all share a few things in common. Mainly my passion and enthusiasm (or obsession) for all things wrestling and what I hope is wide, varied and balanced knowledge and opinion of the wrestling business being another outsider looking in.Yet as these last sentences intentionally show you...they're usually long reads, with a lot of opinions, a lot of talk which I know can be hard sometimes for people to follow or stay interested in. So I'm setting myself a challenge in this article and others with the "Thought In Five ...

The Wannabe Booker: Rebooking the WCW Invasion Angle.

Posted by james staynings On March - 5 - 2011
This is the first in a series of sideshows I'll write every so often based partly on a writing exercise I do in my spare time and partly on my own childish fantasies of being a real-life wrestling booker. The rules of my writing game are usually take anything from 20 minutes to an hour depending on the story-line to plan and write how I'd book a certain angle or event in either WWE, TNA or general wrestling history. Book what I want, with who I want, with full control over the roster and such, within the limits of reality...well, within the reality of what ...

What Makes a Successful Wrestling Stable?

Posted by james staynings On February - 23 - 2011
It’s a simple formula that’s worked time and time again since the birth of the Four Horsemen.   Stables = money + ratings + success   Just take a quick look through wrestling history at the Horsemen, the NWO and D-Generation X, just to name a few, and you’ll see these three results: success, ratings and money. But wait, there’s more! How about great storylines? How about the wrestlers whose careers were started, defined or rejuvenated through being in a stable? Not to mention how stables have defined wrestling in each decade.   Stables= money + ratings + success and ...
