WWE Royal Rumble: What I Want from the Rumble

Posted by Jon Fisher On January - 7 - 2014
This year's Royal Rumble outcome, like any other, holds great unpredictability. Last year, we knew John Cena would be the victor. It was The Rock vs. Cena II and there was nothing the fans could do to stop the nonsense.  I personally liked the match, but that's irrelevant.  What was meant to be "once in a lifetime" turned out to be "twice in a lifetime," which just doesn't make logical sense.  Give World Wrestling Entertainment credit, though. We are only 24 hours away from hearing the groundbreaking announcement about the debut of the WWE Network (whoops), 13 quick days from Batista's return to the company ...

WWE NXT 8/22/13: Results and Review

Posted by Jon Fisher On August - 23 - 2013
Welcome back to the weekly NXT review.  My schedule wouldn't allow me to post this on Thursday morning as usual so I hope you'll forgive me. You can watch this week's episode on Hulu.  The show was stacked and a must-see for anyone looking for a match of the year candidate. Antonio Cesaro and Sami Zayn took part in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match and it received praise from almost everyone on the planet.  Also, AJ Lee appeared on NXT to wrestle the adorable Bayley. Enough of the introduction and let us get into the show! Alex Riley and Tom Phillips were on commentary this week.   Bayley vs. ...

WWE’s Reality Check and the Dissipation of Kayfabe

Posted by Jon Fisher On August - 12 - 2013
World Wrestling Entertainment has changed drastically over the past 40 years—even more so, it's fans and the product they put on television for those fans. Let's go through the past few eras of professional wrestling in WWE.  Golden Era (1980s-Early '90s): This era saw the emergence of Hulk Hogan as its flagship star and the birth of being a "real American." Macho Man Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase and the Rock n' Express helped put wrestling on the map during a time period when America was struggling. During the Golden Era, we saw the birth of WrestleMania.  Pre-Attitude/New Generation Era (Early '90s-1997): We ...
All of those wondering if Stone Cold Steve Austin would make a return to the ring almost had their wish granted on Thursday, but unfortunately, things change in wrestling.  According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t EWrestling News), a WrestleMania 30 main event that would have pitted heel Triple H against Stone Cold—who was representing Vince McMahon—has been scrapped. According to the report, the WWE had a plan for SummerSlam, which kicks off in just nine days.  The original direction would have seen Vince, Stephanie and Triple H unite at SummerSlam before splitting up again later in the year with Triple making a heel turn. Now things look ...
You do the best you can every day. It may be on a different level, but it’s still the best you can. After that, you can’t worry about it. You’ve got to let go. After you’ve done the best you can, there is nothing more you can do. - Vince McMahon for Raw Magazine 2001One moment can make a person into a legend. In the wrestling business, one move can turn a backstage nobody into a household name. For the example of one man, a 30-foot fall created a legacy that will live in fame. Wrestling has been running since the ...
In a world where WWE dominates the floodgates of social media and every news site/dirtsheet on the planet, there is no demand of sexual harassment in Vince McMahon's camp at the current moment. Alas, Dixie Carter of TNA Impact has run into a big problem, and it all stemmed from last Thursday's Impact show. Austin Aries, current TNA employee and former world champion, has made news of the wrong connotation. During a match on Impact, Bobby Roode and Austin Aries were set to square off against Bad Influence, Kazarian and Christopher Daniels. However, ring announcer Christy Hemme announced the wrong name during ...

WrestleMania Revolution: Capturing the Essence of the Undertaker

Posted by Jon Fisher On April - 6 - 2013
The Undertaker is the genesis of perfection.Just the sole word has a different connotation than any other when regarding professional sports. Teams strive for perfection as well as players. The Undertaker has captured the essence of perfection and made it the true existence of his character.Undertaker is the first to be perfect in any event, pay-per-view or night. Goldberg eventually lost, Ryback fell to CM Punk, Big Show had his perfect record lost and the best of all-time, Shawn Michaels, lost numerous times. WrestleMania is perfect for the Deadman.WrestleMania and Undertaker bound themselves together since 1991, when he defeated Jimmy ...

WWE Mismanagement: Ryback Fighting for the WWE Title Is a Mistake

Posted by Jon Fisher On October - 19 - 2012
For those of you who have been tuning into WWE Raw each week, let me shed some light on the current situation.Ryback, formerly known as Skip Sheffield out of the first season of NXT, is battling CM Punk for the WWE Title at Hell in a Cell in a little under two weeks.Let me quote the Miz: "Really?!"Before I begin ranting and have readers claim I am writing this for reads, let me justify my case in a professional manner. Ryback is not ready for a title shot, let alone the main event spotlight. John Cena is hurt and will ...

WWE: Why Vincent McMahon’s Creation Is in Danger and Desperate

Posted by Jon Fisher On October - 9 - 2012
I love professional wrestling. I always have and will continue to pour my heart into the product until I die or the program runs its inevitable course. With the worst rating in almost 15 years produced last Monday, the latter option may happen sooner rather than later. Since I can remember, pro wrestling has always been popular and the McMahon enterprise built it to become a superpower that rivals any professional sport's initial popularity. The '70s had Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes. The next decade brought Hulk Hogan. Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H gave the ...

WWE: Life Stages of a Professional Wrestling Fan

Posted by Jon Fisher On July - 31 - 2012
Just like the stages of development in the human race, professional wrestling has its stages of “fandom”. Certainly enough, “fandom” is a word I just created. For some it begins at a young age of adolescence, in which life means close to nothing to you.It is as if the world looks like one big area to roam and dream. Being so young institutes bravery and courage; solely by just walking outside of your preferred sanctuary. Home is home to you, anything beyond that remains a mystery.Wrestling to most people is that common place of somber and tranquility often desired in ...
