Bound For Glory: 10 -10 -10 Shakes Up TNA For Better Or Worse?

Posted by Len Taylor On October - 12 - 2010
I'm back. I apologize for the two week break. I did manage to follow the build up to Bound For Glory. TNA did a solid job with two exceptions. First, Ink. Inc. vs. Eric Young and Orlando Jordan is not a Pay Per View caliber match. Second, there was absolutely no build-up for the Jay Lethal vs. Douglas Williams' X - division title match.. The Motor City Machine Guns victory over Generation Me builds on their stature as the best team in the world. This was a competitive match and a good kickoff. Tara's victory in the fatal four way for the Knockouts ...

TNA IMPACT and No Surrender Review: Trust, Emotion, and Survival

Posted by Len Taylor On September - 6 - 2010
The theme for last Thursday's iMPACT! could have been "Who do you trust?" as the company lead-in to No Surrender last night. I send out an apology for posting this iMPACT! report late. An unavoidable personal issue was to blame. But I take it as a blessing in disguise and an opportunity to look back on a lead-in show and see how well it built the actual pay-per-view. Recapping last Thursday's in-ring highlights begins with Tara revealing herself as Madison Rayne's bodyguard after they beat the original Beautiful People. Her return adds to the Knockouts Division and set the stage for ...

iMPACT! Analysis: Turning Up the Heat

Posted by Len Taylor On August - 27 - 2010
This week's iMPACT! was an exercise in building different levels of heat for the upcoming No Surrender pay-per-view. At first glance, the card looked to be subpar. But, taking a closer look, in reality the card served its purpose; to build heat and keep us guessing. The involvement of Dixie Carter's husband during her confrontation with Ric Flair brought instant and very personal heat to the Fourtune vs. Dixie storyline. I'm interested in seeing what Dixie's backlash on Flair will be. Will she allow Hulk Hogan to keep overriding her decisions and come off as a weak woman? Or, will she ...

TNA Impact Analysis: Did Dixie Make It Right?

Posted by Len Taylor On August - 20 - 2010
I'll start the column by apologizing to my readers for assuming "They" were first, EV 2.0 then Fortune. TNA is keeping us guessing about the identity of "They." My new best guess is "They" will be revealed once and for all at "Bound For Glory." This week's show opened with Abyss and Jeff Hardy brawling all over the Impact Zone. It reminded me of the Tommy Dreamer/Brian Lee brawls in South Philly years ago. Until, TNA's Springer-esque security broke it up. Eric Bischoff's promo covered a lot. His comments to Ric Flair go way back to WCW. These two have real heat ...

“They” Make an Impact

Posted by Len Taylor On August - 13 - 2010
The Whole F'N Show kicked off with two of the top wrestlers in the world facing each other. The crowd was hot during Kurt Angle's victory over A.J. Styles. This match was not about the TV title. It's Kurt's quest for the World Title that continues after an intense match that set the bar high for the rest of the show. Angelina Love regained the Knockouts Title from Madison Rayne. Madison's bodyguard was nearly unmasked by Velvet Sky in a scuffle during the match. With Lacey Von Erich injured, I predict that we are going to see Madison Rayne and her bodyguard against ...

True Hardcore Justice and More

Posted by Len Taylor On August - 9 - 2010
This is not a traditional match by match pay per view review. This article serves three purposes. To celebrate the righting of a wrong, to honor the men and women who captured the true meaning of "hardcore" and to thank the organization that allowed that South Philly spirit to shine one last time. This pay per view righted the wrong of Vince buying something that could have been special after One Night Stand. Instead, he crapped on it and killed it. Doing so, left a lot of talented men and women without the chance to end it the right way. By allowing last ...

iMPACT! Review: Hardcore Justice Comes Home

Posted by Len Taylor On August - 6 - 2010
The lead-in iMPACT! for Hardcore Justice began with an old school promo between Tommy Dreamer and Raven that got very personal when Raven commented on his relationship with Tommy's children. When he called himself "Uncle Scotty" and said that after Hardcore Justice, Tommy's wife Beulah would call him "Daddy," it ignited a brawl between the two. Abyss joined the melee and was soon joined by Rob Van Dam. Mick Foley's appearance capped an effective promo that blended the original hardcore action from South Philly with TNA's current storyline. Hamada's return was very well received by a crowd that was hot all night. ...

iMPACT! Report: EV 2.0 ‘They’ and Hulk’s Return

Posted by Len Taylor On July - 30 - 2010
The Hardcore EV 2.0 open proves that even Vince's legal tactics can't kill the spirit of south Philly Hardcore. Adding Ray to the group sets up a potentially fiery pay-per-view moment. Hulk Hogan standing in the same ring with EV 2.0 was a historic moment. Abyss' appearance and rant about what "they" want keeps the mystery and suspense going. The fact that EV 2.0 is not "they" will only add another combustible element to TNA when they make themselves known. That's a plus for the company. The Beautiful People's uneasy truce led to a number one contender's match between Angelina and Sarita. Angelina's victory ...

RSVP: Dixie’s Hardcore Party

Posted by Len Taylor On July - 23 - 2010
Last night's Impact answered questions and continued recent history by promoting a top flight card. From the Global title match to Dixie's answer, TNA proved that they respect both the fans and the history of the business. Dixie does things the right way. The Global title match pitted Rob Terry against A.J. Styles. The match was a classic power vs. skill contest. The ending was classic Horsemen. Putting the Global title on A.J. signals the start of Fortune's gold rush in TNA or if he and Kaz can't get along long-term it would kick off an awesome feud between two of the ...
A hardcore reunion took place at the end of this week's Impact which was full of total nonstop action and intrigue. Abyss' opening old school promo brought back images of Abdullah the Butcher and Sabu with his use of "Janice" and a side of beef as props and set the stage that began to take TNA "beyond extreme." Sarita's claim that Taylor Wylde was holding her back ignited a brawl and streetfight that was as intense of a women's match as I've seen in more than thirty years of watching wrestling. This was no roll around, hair pulling catfight. These ladies put it all ...
