Monday Night Raw: Daniel Bryan Sells Himself Short

Posted by Pedro Suarez On August - 6 - 2013
"John Cena is an entertainer. I am a wrestler." On this week's Monday Night Raw, Daniel Bryan had some choice words for John Cena. Cena responded with some valid points of his own that deserve further examination. Cena was correct in stating that Bryan's verbal attack was not original. It is safe to say that almost everyone, even the biggest Cena fans, know from a technical standpoint that Bryan is the better wrestler. Even Cena does not deny Bryan's skill in the ring and chose him as his opponent for SummerSlam—one of the WWE's Big Four pay-per-views. Such a decision, in and of ...

John Cena Versus CM Punk: Who Won in the End?

Posted by Pedro Suarez On April - 23 - 2013
The last several months have been quite interesting. I was at WrestleMania 29 in MetLife Stadium when Undertaker kept the streak alive against CM Punk. I was there when John Cena won the WWE Championship for the 11th time against The Rock. And for quite some time, there have been a lot of questions floating around in my head. Ever since CM Punk won and lost the WWE Championship, I've been struggling to find meaning.  I've been struggling to find meaning in WWE's decisions and unravel the direction in which the company, or rather Vince McMahon, wants to go.It is obvious that ...

Wrestling Eliminated from 2020 Olympics and Potential Impact on WWE

Posted by Pedro Suarez On February - 12 - 2013
It was reported in an article today on ABC News that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dropped wrestling from the 2020 Olympic program.  Wrestling has been part of the modern Olympic program since the event's inception in 1896, more than a century ago. Although the decision to remove wrestling is not final, it is unlikely that the sport would be voted back in so soon. Wrestling was eliminated to allow a new sport inclusion in order to keep the Olympic program "modern". The commission reviewed 39 criteria which included television ratings, ticket sales, anti-doping policy and global participation and popularity. While the traditional ...

Voice of the Vocal: CM Punk, the Media and the WWE Universe

Posted by Pedro Suarez On January - 8 - 2013
Last night, on the January 7th edition of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk gave one of the most important promos of his career. And while some may have thought it was a little dragged out, the substance of what the WWE Champion said should not be lost.I don't think I've ever seen a WWE superstar try as hard as CM Punk to get people to legitimately dislike him. At the upcoming 2013 Royal Rumble, it isn't just CM Punk versus The Rock. It's "people hater" versus "people's champion."And while that is the intentional angle that's being used for this match, ...

WWE RAW (7/30): CM Punk, Highlights and Final Thoughts

Posted by Pedro Suarez On July - 31 - 2012
In the aftermath of WWE RAW's entertaining 1,000th episode, there has been much speculation about the company's ability to maintain the momentum.Considering that the show has now expanded to a three-hour format, there was also concern over how WWE would be able to manage the time effectively. One of the major ongoing concerns has been over the amount of time WWE devotes to promotions and recaps.I personally think it is a waste of time to complain about this issue.  From a business standpoint, it is common practice to use media platforms to push your own products. Pick up a newspaper or ...

WWE RAW 1,000: Vince McMahon and the Company’s Biggest Crossroad

Posted by Pedro Suarez On July - 20 - 2012
It's not everyday that an individual transforms a dream into one of the biggest entertainment phenomenons the world has ever seen. And while one person cannot take all of the credit for the success of the WWE, there is one individual who can certainly take most of it.No other wrestling promotion has been able to do what WWE has done, as big as they have done it, for as long as it has been done.So many writers, bloggers and WWE fans have analyzed the success of the WWE. And while there are so many factors to consider, the one constant, throughout ...

WWE Analysis: Chris Jericho and Dolph Ziggler Feud Development

Posted by Pedro Suarez On July - 17 - 2012
Dolph Ziggler really impressed me with his mic skills on last night's WWE Monday Night RAW.Ziggler bashed Chris Jericho with a lot of the criticisms that fans have raised over the last several months. And it was clear, throughout the segment, that Ziggler was enthusiastically taking on his role as heel against the lion-heart.It also became apparent that Ziggler doesn't really need Vickie Guerrero anymore. Ziggler can speak for himself. He carried the entire segment. All Jericho had to do was react. And react he did.As Ziggler glanced at Vickie Guerrero, Jericho took the opportunity to deliver a wonderfully sold code-breaker ...
The moment has arrived. It is WWE RAW's 1,000th episode—the longest-running weekly episodic television program on U.S. television. And what better way to start the night than Vince McMahon announcing that the main event will be a classic Battle Royal with mystery guest superstars? The winner gets a shot at the WWE Championship. Wait, what?!The night progresses. Fans get a solid two hours of traditional RAW programming with flashback moments, surprise guests, and an eclectic mix of fun matches. Jim Ross and Jerry "The King" Lawler are announcing in classic fashion. But none of the most anticipated superstars have showed up.The third hour of ...

WWE Rumors: Is Vince McMahon Next on Brock Lesnar’s List?

Posted by Pedro Suarez On June - 5 - 2012
Ever since WWE announced Vince McMahon's return to next week's Monday Night RAW, there has been speculation about a Laurinaitis/McMahon matchup. And that may very well come to pass. But considering that it's going to be Monday Night RAW's 1,000th episode, fans might get a little more than they bargained for with a variety of special appearances. And who better than Brock Lesnar? (Paul Heyman's voice echos in my head as I write the name). The last time we saw Brock Lesnar on WWE programming, he broke Triple H's arm in a deadly kimura lock. Why? Because he felt like it. Triple H ...
