At first glance, it seems ludicrous. Ambrose is just a stable mate with Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns as a part of The Shield. He’s just an upper midcarder who hasn’t even reached main event level status and may not until the end of the year. Lastly, for god’s sake, he’s only the United States champion. We all know what the level of that title is currently. However, when you weigh the criteria and the impressive year Ambrose has had, the choice doesn’t seem so ridiculous. In fact, Ambrose is a legitimate contender for Wrestler of the Year. Before I ...

Election 2012: Hulk Hogan for President? It Almost Happened

Posted by Rich Kraetsch On November - 6 - 2012
Forget about Romney or Obama. How about Hulk Hogan for President? Don’t laugh too hard, it almost happened. With tonight marking a historic day in American politics, I thought it would be fitting to look at professional wrestling's more important run to presidency, or maybe not. Much of the buzz surrounding the 2012 race between current President Barack Obama and Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney is how close of a race this might be, perhaps the closest since the 2000 election. For those who lived through 2000, you will recall the craziness surrounding the Presidential Race. Between Electoral College/popular vote discrepancies, ...

WWE: Potential Brock Lesnar/Triple H WrestleMania Match a Disappointment

Posted by Rich Kraetsch On August - 28 - 2012
I guess we should have seen this coming. I suppose we all just had more hope. Dave Meltzer reported on his Wrestling Observer Live podcast that Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H is the plan for WrestleMania 29. For those scoring at home, the rumored Lesnar vs. Undertaker or Lesnar vs. The Rock matches are no more, instead we are getting a SummerSlam rematch. Obviously, this is still a rumor and Meltzer made sure to mention it was only in the plans, but I cannot help but be extremely disappointed by this development. Lesnar’s latest stint in the WWE has been ...

WWE: The Beyond-Stale State of the Heel Authority Figure

Posted by Rich Kraetsch On May - 8 - 2012
I am not sure beating a dead horse is an apt phrase for what I am about to write about. World Wrestling Entertainment’s use of a heel authority figure in a feud with a top face in the company is beyond dead-horse territory.   It is in an indefinable, perpetual existence, and the latest example featuring John Cena and John Laurinaitis could not be duller. The autonomous authority figure has been a part of professional wrestling in one way or another since the sport's very existence. Even in the WWF’s heyday, there was the Jack Tunneys of the world, the ...

WWE WrestleMania: Is a Small Arena or Stadium Better?

Posted by Rich Kraetsch On March - 31 - 2012
As we quickly approach WrestleMania XXVII in Miami’s Orange Bowl, I wonder if WrestleMania is better served in a smaller arena. From a financial or purely aesthetic feel, the stadiums are unmatched; yet. the crowd elements and history of smaller arenas at WrestleMania make those the better option from a fan’s standpoint. There is no question the large-scale look of WrestleMania inside a stadium is stunning. The last time World Wrestling Entertainment invaded Miami for WrestleMania, they made the typically desolate Citrus Bowl Stadium look stunning. Covering the ring with an outdoor canopy, Vince McMahon and the WWE were able ...
