50 Greatest WWE Championship Title Changes

Posted by Robert Aitken On May - 31 - 2013
Earlier this month was the 50th anniversary of Bruno Sammartino becoming the first man to defeat a WWE champion and take his title. Buddy Rogers was named the initial champion of the then-Worldwide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). The company was parting ways with the National Wrestling Alliance and creating their own world championship. As the legend goes, Rogers won a tournament in Rio De Janeiro on April 25, 1963, though there is no proof of the tournament ever existing. Sammartino defeated Rogers for the title after 22 days.Since that first title change, there have been 110 others, meaning the championship has ...

WWE WrestleMania XXIX: Divas Title Needed Trish Stratus to Make Card

Posted by Robert Aitken On April - 6 - 2013
WrestleMania 29 is a pretty full match card, but two titles are still missing from the ranks. Antonio Cesaro and his United States Championship may still have a chance as the champ may be occupied with some rumors coming up prior to the show this weekend. One championship that seems to be out of luck is the Divas Championship, currently held by Kaitlyn. On a year where Trish Stratus, perhaps the greatest wrestling female in WWE's modern era, gets inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, there are no women wrestling for a championship to go down the road she helped to ...

2012 Was a Great Year in WWE History

Posted by Robert Aitken On December - 31 - 2012
There are only a few days left on the calendar and only one episode of RAW, set for this Monday night, on the schedule for 2012. Regardless of what happens on Monday night's New Year's Eve edition of RAW, the case sure can be made for the idea that this past calendar year has been the best ever for WWE. From the resurgence of Sheamus to CM Punk's quest for respect, 2012 has shown WWE a whole lot of positivity.Buyrates for pay-per-views in 2012 were up for most of the year compared to 2011, but WWE began with a slow ...

The Rock Is the Reason CM Punk Is Still WWE Champion

Posted by Robert Aitken On December - 7 - 2012
The reign of CM Punk as WWE Champion is now at 383 days, making for the longest reign with the title since Hulk Hogan's reign of over 1,000 days ended in 1988. Among the 42 other men who have ever held the title, the length of this current reign alone is longer than the time that all but 11 men have ever had as WWE Champion.Among those who have not had it longer is The Rock, whose seven reigns as champion rank third-most behind Triple H's eight reigns and 10 reigns for John Cena. In his seven combined reigns as ...

WWE RAW: 10 Superstars Who Would Be Better off on Smackown

Posted by Robert Aitken On November - 30 - 2012
Tonight is yet another episode of Smackdown, the secondary brand on WWE.It plays second fiddle to Monday Night RAW, which is longer and features basically anyone imaginable on the roster. The supersized RAW includes superstars and Divas from both RAW and sister show Smackdown. Even though Smackdown superstars appear on RAW, it's pretty rare that the favor is returned, leaving the blue brand pretty much to fend for itself with those that it officially lists as Smackdown superstars.Smackdown has helped itself out in recent years by creating main event talent such as Daniel Bryan, Mark Henry and Christian, as well ...

WWE Survivor Series 2012: Tag Team Division Loses Chance to Shine

Posted by Robert Aitken On November - 17 - 2012
The current WWE Tag Team Champions, known as Team Hell No, are featured on Team Foley this Sunday at Survivor Series. Assuming that Cody Rhodes is cleared to compete, Team Rhodes Scholars, the current top contenders, will be on the opposing Team Ziggler. Beyond that, the rest of WWE's growing tag team division seems left out of the main card of Survivor Series.Once upon a time, which was back at the end of September, a tournament was set up with eight teams who wished to challenge Team Hell No for the tag team championships. This tournament combined existing tag teams ...
In the 10 years since the brand extension in WWE, the opinions of the diehard fan of the product have really shifted because of this move.Initially, the brand extension was awesome. It made WWE feel like it was two companies in one, as the RAW and Smackdown brands had superstars that were exclusive to a specific show. Championships stayed exclusive for the most part, except for the WWE Championship, which would have the champion initially bounce back and forth between shows. When the World Heavyweight Championship was included, world titles became exclusive to respective brands. Eventually, superstars would change brands ...

10 Most Overrated Finishing Moves in WWE Today

Posted by Robert Aitken On October - 6 - 2012
When it comes time for a great match to come to an end, the finishing move comes into play. It can basically happen at any time and it can mean that the match is three seconds or some taps on the ground away from the bell ringing and a winner being announced. While it isn't always a certainty, there are some finishers, predominantly used by top-tier superstars, that make the end of a match purely academic. Once that move comes, it's all over. When looking squarely at some of these finishers, however, it really makes you wonder how a 15-minute match ...

Posted by Robert Aitken On September - 18 - 2012
According to an article posted by WWE.com this evening, John Cena has undergone elbow surgery to remove bone chips. This comes on the heels of a Twitter announcement by Cena himself following Sunday's Night of Champions pay-per-view. The tweet from Cena included a picture of his left ankle, which he had rolled early in the WWE Championship against CM Punk at the event.Cena was still able to wrestle in last night's main event and WWE—who are very savvy with social media—did not acknowledge the tweet from Cena or his ankle ailments. His ankle had to have improved if Cena was able ...
