Posted by Ross Rutherford On January - 19 - 2011
Be sure to check out a few of the previous editions of the Pro Wrestling Countdown after reading this one: The Greatest WWE Pay-Per-Views of the 21st Century The  Greatest TNA Matches of All Time Chris Jericho's Greatest Matches SummerSlam's Greatest Matches of All Time The Undertaker's Greatest Matches Shawn Michaels's Greatest Matches and be sure to follow me on twitter:  http://twitter.com/rossrutherford Editorial Note: Before I begin I would like to make it clear that this Countdown will not only include WWE moments. I used the WWE title for obvious reasons an because the majority of this Pro Wrestling Countdown is filled with WWE moments. I just consider WWE ...

Tag Team Wrestling: The Many Reasons for It’s Impending Death

Posted by Ross Rutherford On August - 6 - 2010
Everyone and their mother on the Bleacher Report have talked about the death of tag team wrestling and why and when it died. Every time I see one of these articles I feel that the writer has left something out or over looked a few reasons. Sometimes I comment on these articles adding factors and reasons for tag team wrestling’s decline, but today I am here to really set the record straight and throw my opinions out there. I would like to repeat that these are solely my opinions and my views and yours may be different. I, however, do not think tag ...

TNA’s Television Championship: The Revival of a Wrestling Tradition

Posted by Ross Rutherford On August - 4 - 2010
Recently here on the Bleacher Report I talked about how the WWE and TNA have been  misusing their World Heavyweight Championships. However, on the last episode of TNA Impact, which aired on July 29th, AJ Styles renamed the TNA Legends Championship , which had already been renamed the TNA Global Championship, the TNA Television Championship . I hope I’m not the only one who thinks that is a little ridiculous. I think TNA has way too many titles for a promotion that has only one wrestling program on television, but I think they could actually do some cool things with a Television ...

Pro Wrestling Countdown: SummerSlam’s Greatest Matches of All Time

Posted by Ross Rutherford On July - 29 - 2010
Hello everyone and welcome back to the latest edition of The Pro Wrestling Countdown. Today we will be looking at ten of the greatest matches that have come from WWE’s second best pay-per-view event of the year. Or maybe third best depending on whom you’re talking to. SummerSlam is generally considered WWE’s ‘blockbuster’ event. Every year they have stipulation matches and bring in big name stars to return like Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, or Bret Hart. This event has had a rich 22-year history and tons of fantastic wrestling matches and moments and I have taken care to showcase some of the ...

World Heavyweight Championships: Are They Now Meaningless?

Posted by Ross Rutherford On July - 21 - 2010
This topic has been widely discussed for years here on the Bleacher Report and all over the Internet by all sorts of wrestling journalists. They feel that due to the excessive title changes that happen in today's world of professional wrestling, World Championships are becoming less valuable and therefore they care less about the title. I can agree, but often in this day and age we see frequent title changes in the WWE, TNA, and elsewhere to keep the viewer interested. The American pro wrestling companies seem to think that if we get a new champion every few months that we will stay interested in ...

Pro Wrestling Countdown: Chris Jericho’s Greatest Matches

Posted by Ross Rutherford On July - 15 - 2010
The Pro Wrestling Countdown has returned and, in the words of Y2J, the Pro Wrestling Section, the Bleacher Report, the IWC, the Internet, and the entire Cyber World…will never…EVER….be the same. Again! In the past decade it is hard to think of too many wrestlers in the WWE who have been more consistently good in everything they have done than Chris Jericho. He became the first Undisputed WWE Champion, he is a nine-time Intercontinental Champion, and he has had some of the best matches and programs with just about anyone the WWE puts him in the ring with. Jericho started out his ...

Evan Bourne: Can He ‘Fly’ Through Raw’s Glass Ceiling?

Posted by Ross Rutherford On June - 22 - 2010
In past articles I have written here on the Bleacher Report I have told you the WWE has done a horrible job of pushing new talent. Nowadays, however, the story seems to be a bit different. The WWE has plenty of new performers around, but it seems they are trying to push too many of their "up-and-comers" at once. This creates a whole new problem in and of itself. In the past year or so we have seen several guys like Kofi Kingston and John Morrison get huge pushes into the main event scene, only to have their push ...

Pro Wrestling Countdown: My 10 Favorite Matches of All Time

Posted by Ross Rutherford On June - 16 - 2010
It has been a long time since I have written anything here so for my 'big' return I have decided to shake off my ‘writing cobwebs’ with everyone’s favorite top ten: The Pro Wrestling Countdown! Every once and awhile you watch a match and after the match you have that feeling you just watched something truly amazing. These ten matches all did this to me. All are amazing, but they are in a particular order. The 10th match has that effect on me, but not quite as much as the No. 1 match on this list. The following ten matches are ...

Tell the Truth and Run: WWE Smackdown Is the Only Real “Wrestling Show”

Posted by Ross Rutherford On September - 9 - 2009
It is sort of odd that I am calling WWE Smackdown the only real wrestling show. After all, professional wrestling is considered to be fake; which it is in many aspects. When I say it is the only "real wrestling show," I mean that it is the only wrestling show that is worth watching (as of now) for its actual wrestling. Most non-wrestling fans see Monday Night Raw and think that is what real wrestling fans want. Wrong! If you want to see why wrestling fans really enjoy this form of entertainment, head on over to Hulu.com and catch the match John Morrison ...
